Kenmare Cottage - a house that sleeps 7 guests in 3 bedrooms

Kenmare Cottage is situated in the Seaside town of Shanklin and is ideally located within walking distance of the beach, town centre, Old Village, Shanklin Chine and restaurants. The house is comfortably furnished throughout with kitchen, diner, lounge, double bedroom and two twin bedrooms, family bathroom with separate wc and family shower room. The house also benefits from off road parking for two cars to the rear, and an enclosed garden.

Shanklin seafront is the perfect place to enjoy a traditional seaside holiday with a beautiful sandy beach, pubs, restaurants, amusements and crazy golf there is something for all the family. You can stroll down the cascade to the seafront or you can take the Cliff Lift.

Big Mead is a large open parkland situated south of Shanklin Old Village. This park is ideal for dog walkers and also within the park you will find a recreation area for children and a lovely duck pond at the bottom of the Mead by St Blasius Church.

The two mile coastal walk between Shanklin & Sandown is a popular attraction; choose from the undulating coastal path or the sea wall promenade. Along the way is the village of Lake, with its quiet sandy beach and water sport centre.
Sandown is popular for visiting the Dinosaur Isle with life size models, Dino land Sandown Pier and Isle of Wight Zoo famous for its Tiger Sanctuary. There is also an 18 hole golf course and pitch & putt. Shanklin train station links you to Sandown and the other beach resort of Ryde.

Kenmare Cottage is also convenient situated for local public transport.

Brilliant stay

The house was excellently clean, tidy and well stocked with kitchen equipment, games and towels. Located in an excellent position in Shanklin. Word of warning to anyone with a large car- the parking might be considered small. Also the driveway must be accessed as if heading into Shanklin and not away to avoid the tight angle.

Great holiday location

We had a wonderful time staying at kenmare cottage. Kitchen came equipped with everything you needed to make meals and was lovely touches having everything you need for your dogs too. Everything was a walk away and the information they provide around dog friendly places on the island was really handy. A few items in the kitchen needed cleaning before use. The blind spot coming out of the lane was a bit crazy at peak hours, a mirror opposite would be really handy. Thanks for having us.

Thank you for your review. Im glad you had a wonderful time. Regarding items needing cleaning in the kitchen, I can only assume it would be items that are tucked away in drawers and cupboards ie saucepans, trays etc as I the owner clean and check all appliances. Unfortunately I don't have time to check all utensils and cutlery etc and that should hopefully be down to previous guests making sure it's clean before putting away. I can only apologise for this and previous ratings have always been a 5 for cleanliness. As for location, a bit confused at the rating as the tile is great holiday location. The blind spot is a bit of an issue that I have been trying to take up with Island roads but they have previously removed mirrors as they say it's on their property. I am still hoping to get this resolved.

Excellent accommodation

Very. I’ve place to stay in Shanklin and to see the Isle of Wight

Great house with loads of space for kids. Loved the table tennis table to use outside. Very tight road and parking difficult with a big car but we managed! Great location and had a wonderful week travelling around the Isle of Wight sight seeing. Great beaches and places to see. Would highly recommend staying here.

Lovely place to stay, had everything we needed. Excellent base for exploring the area.

Kenmare Cottage was very welcoming and had everything we needed for our family holiday. Lots of attention to details - even doggie blankets for our 4 legged family member. The welcome tray was much appreciated after our drive and made the start of our holiday feel special. Nicely decorated, we chuckled over the comic dog pictures. Great to be able to park the car and walk from the house to explore lots of things in the area. Would definitely recommend to others, especially for a family holiday.

Our holiday was absolutely fantastic! The house was immaculate when we arrived and easy to get into. Location is superb. The information folders were fantastic, very detailed and welcome package was a nice touch. The games room was a loved addition as well as the table tennis( balls were a bit dented and we didn't find anywhere to buy anymore). Shanklin is a lovely little place.We would definitely recommend and would stay again

This is a lovely house in a great location. The best part was all the small ways the owners made the stay special including, dvds, wii, dog biscuits, washing powder, blankets, bean bags, dog blankets etc and additional loo rolls! Thank you

A beautiful house

We were very impressed with this property. It was well equipped, in a good location, near to facilities and beautifully furnished. It had everything we needed and contributed to making our stay on the Isle of Wight fantastic. Nearly forgot to say thank you for the goodies left for us.

Second visit to Kenmare Cottage,

Kenmare Cottage is perfect in every way, it is spotlessly clean, very well equipped, stylish and spacious, it has the bonus of parking to the rear of the property and is very centrally located in Shanklin, a level walk to the shops, which are nearby. An excellent choice for couples and families. Credit also to the agent Island Holiday Homes who provide an excellent service. Thank you.

Ideal holiday let

Very enjoyable stay with accommodation very high standard. Appreciative of essentials supplied such as tea, coffee and milk, plus unexpected lovely cake. Location ideal for access around Shanklin with excellent bus service. Only point which other people have made is vehicle access from main road which is on a sharp bend and tight turn. However would definitely recommend this property to others.

Relax, unwind and enjoy

This is the second time of staying here, this time we we're joined by our 18 month old granddaughter, mum and Dad and Willow there four legged companion. We had an absolutely brilliant holiday here ☺️ the sun shone and was warm through out. We were greated by a lovely arrival pack. Thank you. The IOW is a superb holiday location and this island holiday home was the perfect place to stay. Thank you

Relaxing Winter Break

We thoroughly enjoyed our November stay at Kenmare Cottage, it is very spacious and well equipped, and so very homely, the owners have thought of everything. The location is very convenient, it is close to the shops and the beach in Shanklin, it is also handy for the old village, restaurants, pubs and takeaways, which are all within an easy stroll. This is by far the best place we have stayed in Shanklin and would highly recommend the property. The team at Island Holiday Homes were also fantastic, they provided excellent customer service throughout our stay. Their attention to detail was great, they promptly answered all my pre-holiday questions, they efficiently booked our car ferry tickets (at a great price!) and kept us really well informed. Thank you.

Beautiful house in a great location

We were impressed with the cleanliness when we arrived. Everything was very clean and the house was full with all amenities you can think of. Kitchen was stocked, playroom full of games, books and gaming station and plenty of linen and towels provided. The instructions were very clearly provided in advance but also in the welcome guide. The house is in a great location being close to the shops (300M), close to the old village (5 min walk) and beach lift (7 min walk). Being in the middle of the town however means that there has been a lot of noise from the road and neighbour houses with all the windows open in the middle of summer. There is ample parking at the back of the house but a little tricky to get to if you have a bigger car. Throughout our 2 week stay we needed to contact maintenance & housekeeping for some bins advice and she was extremely responsive and helpful. I cannot fault it and gladly stay again!

Very Nice

The house is lovely and homely with nice touches, clean and tidy with everything you need. The games room is a fab idea if you have generations stopping or young children. It is a short walk to the beach, and into the town. Although the house is on a main road, the traffic noise isnt really an issue, and the seating area at the back is quiet and warm in the sun. The house is spacious and well laid out , and more then enough room for families. . Parking would be an issue if you have a large car, or more then 1 car, we have a Mokka and managed but it was hairy at times. You are also exiting the little road at the back of the house where you park , onto a main road on a blind bend from the right, that is also hairy at times. So you need to be vigilant when leaving. On the whole a lovely house.

Well worth a stay

Recently completed a stay at the Kenmore Cottage. Overall, I would recommend this property and also stay again. Here are my observations: Pros: - Huge property with lots of large rooms. All 3 bedrooms are a great size as is the main bathroom - Has everything you would need for a stay from appliances through to essential kitchen and living items (chopping boards, mini scales, iron, etc) - Room for 2 cars to park at the rear of the property - An abundance of games (board and Nintendo Wii) and DVDs to choose from - Its very clean and the paintwork looks fresh - Located 10 mins walk from the beach and a 60 second walk gets you into town where there are plenty of shops & take aways - Owners provided a lovely welcome pack including dog treats, 4 pints of milk, a chocolate cake, tea, coffee, sugar. Also had washing up liquid and some washing tablets too. Very thoughtful Cons: - Getting out of the road to the rear of the property. Its not the fault of the owners, its just a blind turn and I feel dangerous. I would encourage the owners to campaign the council to put up a mirror on the lamp post directly opposite. - The road itself (to the rear parking) is very tight. If you have a large car, you may want to research the road via Google Maps. I have a small SUV and that was OK, but anything larger might be an issue. Again, not the fault of the owners! - There are some internal cracks on walls and ceilings, but this shouldn't be a distraction. The owners will need to address it, but it wouldn't put me off rebooking. Also, a shout out to Island Holiday Homes. Lots of clear communications, responsive by email, polite and helpful when I called to book my ferry (then change the return time twice!). Great company with great employees.

Thank you for your kind and informative review. We are so glad you had an enjoyable stay. Regarding the couple of issues you raised. We have tried and still trying along with other residents to make island roads and the council aware of the blind spot, but unfortunately seems to fall on death ears and also removing a mirror that was previously put up by a resident as it apparently reflected into the bus drivers view. As for the cracks that were mentioned, we are aware of these which have been professionally checked and are historical cracks resulting in the age of Kenmare which we repair along with touch-ups throughout to keep Kenmare as clean and fresh looking as we can. This can only be done in the winter months when Kenmare isn't busy, and as you kindly mentioned isn't a distraction. Once again thank you for giving a genuine review and hope to welcome you back in the near future.

Kenmare Cottage a large 3 bedroom semidetached house in Shanklin.

Kenmare Cottage is situated in Shanklin 5 minutes from shops and the co-op supermarket and 10 minutes from the beach. It is a large property with 3 bedrooms and two bathrooms on the first floor and two reception rooms, dinning room and kitchen on the ground floor offering the perfect balance of comfort and convenience, the property features off road parking, a private garden with use of a bar-b-q and table tennis table (bring your own bats and ball) ideal for outdoor relaxation. The ground floor has open plan kitchen and dining area, which opens directly onto the private garden. Kenmare cottage in located on a main road and entering the property via the from door is not recommended as there is no pavement! Fortunately it is easy to enter the property via the back garden, however if driving exiting onto the main road is challenging as the view from incoming vehicles is blocked by a wall. A mirror on the other side of the road if definitely needed. It can be noisy if sitting in the front room with the windows open on a hot day, however with the windows closed it was fine. Great welcome pack (not many do these days).

Beautiful house in a fantastic location

This property is lovey large house, in a fantastic location between old town Shanklin and Shanklin sea front both we walked to on many occasions, about 15mins to the front and 10mins to the old town. There are plenty of eating places, restaurants and take always within a few minutes walk from the house. The house was lovely and clean on arrival, with plenty of towels and everything we needed to make our stay perfect. As mentioned in other reviews the road along to the parking is tight but we have a very large car and managed it without to much of a problem, the neighbours all seemed friendly. We had a fantastic time and will definitely return.

Family holiday

A beautiful home, had a lovely stay. Most things we needed were provided and the house is well maintained, but shocked there was no coffee maker even though it was listed. We bought a caffetiere and left it there. It is advisable to bring a fan as windows need to be kept closed due to the very noisy neighbour and 4am seagulls - lovely as they are, they are loud! Take great care driving out onto main road, a blind exit. A big struggle to vacate by 9am with a baby and toddler, we felt under pressure and accidentally left things behind in the rush. Not being able to check in until after 5pm and having to leave by 9am feels as though we were overcharged as we missed the best part of a day. One of the keys doesn't work for the back door, we had a struggle trying to get out. Overall, a nice place, worked well most of the time. (I don't suggest you publish this review, I just wanted to bring some things to your attention).

Beautiful home from home

We spent 2 weeks at Kenmare and enjoyed it greatly. It is tastefully decorated, comfortable, very well furnished and considering the current restrictions we'll equipped. There is plenty of room for a family, the playroom is a great idea stocked with a TV, wii, dvds, board games and a comfy sofa. We would give the house 9.5/10.
