The cottage was a perfect central location for going to nearby State Parks and towns. Savage River road is quite picturesque. The cottage was clean and had the necessary amenities for a long weekend stay. The WiFi was not very good but we didn’t mind too much as we were getting a break from the fast paced world.
We enjoyed our family quiet time at the cabin! Very beautiful cabin with the most breath taking river right behind the cabin. Bed was comfortable and house was clean. We would stay again.
This is a one-of-a-kind property on the bank of the Savage River. You'll be enticed by the sight and sound of the river so that you'll be on the deck, at the firepit or by the river most of your time. When you must go inside, a fully equipped cabin awaits down to the dishtowels. We stayed over the July 4th week-end. I wish you could see the sparkles on this dishtowel!
This property was perfect for a weekend getaway from the city. Clean and cozy, with the soothing sounds of a river running out back of the place. We'll be happy to return someday.
Lovely setting with property backing onto the river. This made for a great fishing trip weekend for my dad, my brother, and me. Very easy to get back-and-forth to different spots on the river and a comfortable place to relax between outings.
The perfect getaway that our family needed. Time to unwind, detach from the busyness of every day life... and just be together with each other and nature. Our boys played in the river, made bows and arrows, so many hikes, it was amazing. The cabin was so cozy and just perfect. We were truly grateful to stay here.
Second time visit with my grandson and son-in-law. Great long weekend getaway! World-class fly-fishing, plenty of fun activities for kids and young teens at nearby Deep Creek Lake. But the best is just opening the windows and listening to the wild Savage River roll by!
We go to Savage River to Fly Fish and hang out. The location of this cabin "Brownie Cabin" is awesome. Cabin for three persons is spacious. The location to Fly Fishing areas is very good. There is even a fly shop right there. Can't wait to return again.

Very impressed
Upon check in everything we exactly how we saw it in the pictures. The cottage was fantastic, it was equipped with everything we needed. The river was breathtaking, we kept the windows open every night and fell asleep to the sound of the river. Cannot wait to go back next year!!!
Rented the brownie cabin from Mike for my dad's 70th birthday. It turned into a great weekend get away with his grandkids and fishing everything he could have ever wanted.
The sound of the river putting us to sleep every night was so magestic. As we were checking out we ended up booking another weekend in Oct! We will be back
What a beautiful place. We went to do some fishing...but, the weather didnt cooperate well. However, we loved the rustic cabin, the scenery and the fly shop!
Very quiet, very relaxing. Husband did some fishing. I did a lot of sleeping. If you go, make sure you take your own food. There's not a lot of shopping or eating out without driving somewhere. I do suggest eating at the hen house, it's worth the drive.
We enjoyed our stay in this well appointed cottage with outstanding views of the Savage River just steps away from the back deck. The extra bed in the loft area was great for our teenage girls who get along but like their own sleep space. Everything was 5 stars for us except the location (4 stars) because it was a bit of a distance (about 30 min) to Wisp where we were skiing but manageable. However, if you are fly fishing it doesn't get any better/closer!
Nicely appointed cabin on the Savage River. My wife and I stayed 4 nights the weekend of Independence Day. We spent most of our time relaxing next to the river and the firepit and playing games in the spacious yard. The sound of the river is very relaxing. Good communication from the owner. He does provide some firewood. However, be prepared with some of your own, just in case all 3 of his cabins have renters. Bring plenty of food, as there aren't many dining options which are close. Very secluded area, which we loved. Would definitely recommend!
We had such a great weekend at the cabin. Mike was there to greet us upon arrival, which was a bonus. The cabin is located in the perfect area. Not too far from West Virginia, not too far from deep creek lake and not too far from in town. We were able to drive 20 minutes away for crab a feast in deep creek lake, and we were also able to drive a few minutes up the road from the cabin to enjoy some good fishing. The river behind the cabin was so beautiful and peaceful. We slept with the windows open each night. We enjoyed coffee in the morning by the river, and we enjoyed a glass of wine in the evenings by the river. The cabin was clean and the beds were very comfortable. Though the wifi was spotty inside the cabin, our phones worked well on the patio. If you're looking for a relaxing weekend on the river, this is the place to come to. Many Thanks Mike, you were a great host. We highly recommend.
Disappointed Stay at the Cottage Our stay at the Cottage was a major disappointment and not worth the money we paid. It was difficult to find the location, even with GPS, and the house was not properly updated nor cleaned. The abundance of spiderwebs throughout the house was concerning, and we found shorts near the bed in the downstairs room. Additionally, the pillows upstairs had an unpleasant smell indicating a lack of cleaning. While we understood that there was no internet access inside the house, we were disappointed to discover that the "Wi-Fi" connection advertised on the deck could not be established. When we contacted Mike, the point of contact for our stay, he was unhelpful and even rude in his response. Mike’s Response was “There is no wifi in the house. The MacDonald's in Westernport has wifi”. Despite paying for two nights, we decided to leave the next day because of the unsatisfactory conditions. We left the property as clean as possible and informed Mike of our decision, but he never responded or inquired about the reason for our departure. As frequent VRBO users, this was our first time leaving a property due to such poor conditions. We paid for two nights, and it was not worth the price. Mike's unprofessionalism was further confirmed when he failed to respond to our text message. Overall, our experience at this property was unpleasant and not what we were expecting.

Response from VrboOwner on 21 Oct 2023
Ingrad and her family arrived late in the evening..well after dark. She was obviously disappointed when she asked earlier in the day if she could bring 2 additional guests to stay in this cottage which has a maximum of 4 guests and could not accommodate the 6 guests. She was also disappointed that there was no wifi at the cottage as was stated in the description on vrbo. I told her that the Flyshop had wifi or she could go to the nearby McDonalds if she needed wifi. I don’t believe in the 17 years renting the Brownie that anyone ever complained about cleanliness so this was a first. I’m sorry that she was upset but she probably should have read the description of the cottage more carefully. I offered to let her move next door to a cabin that accommodates 6 guests but she also refused that offer.
Our first stay and definitely not our last! A cozy rustic cabin in the wood along a perfect little river running through it! gorgeous fall colors - a lovely spot for fishing and hiking and nature-ing. Loved it!

About the host
Hosted by Mike Evans
After retiring from business in the D.C. area, I wanted a small business that allowed me to spend time doing what I love to do most, Fish! My wife, Suzanne, and I have eight grown children, and seven grandchildren, and with this property, I have room for them to visit!
Why they chose this property
There is no prettier place than the Savage River, all of the seasons offer their own special brand of beauty. The fishing is so good, I have only to walk out the back door to find it!
What makes this property unique
Fishing is number one, but there are hiking trails in the adjoining Savage River Forest, kayaking on the river during special releases, but most of the time, the Savage River Lake is calm and easy for any level of boater (non-motorized only). Biking on the Savage River Road is very popular with those who enjoy hill-climbing, not for the feint of heart!
