Wonderful Stay in Gaia

Gaia is across the river from Porto; a short ride to downtown but away from the throngs of tourists. The beach and beach restaurants are a five minute walk from the house. Joaquim was a wonderful host and the accommodations felt like a five star hotel. we would definitely stay here again.

The best you will find

The property is a luxury accommodation on an estate property three blocks from gorgeous beaches, managed by experts. A car is helpful for visiting Porto but we had a car and used FreeNow and Uber instead because they were cheaper than Porto parking. Everything in the apartment is as advertised and more.

Outstanding & New

Great location and wonderful new home located on the 100-year-old family estate with pool. Joajuim is a wonderful very professional and proud owner of the home. He provided us with tasteful vegetables from his garden along with a 20-year-old Port that is close to his heart. We had our 2 grandsons who enjoyed the large green grass yard along with the family estate pool. If there is a negative, it is the gate getting in and out on the busy road. it takes a little extra attention. The location to the beach is 1-2 blocks with a view of the Atlantic ocean from your porch! The Sunsets are the best! Don't miss out on this one.

Great place but be careful when booking

This is a beautiful house in a nice neighborhood, outside of Porto. BUT: be careful when booking that you choose the right number of occupants. The house is listed as sleeping up to six people, but if you accidentally book for 2 people (the default), like we did, then the owner will ask you to pay extra for each additional person. In our case, our daughter was accompanying us, and the owner made us pay an additional 90 Euros per night for "an additional room," which he claimed was outlined in the policy. (Note that this payment doesn't go through VRBO, and he expects cash on the spot.) The policy does state that additional guests may be charged extra, but nowhere does it say how much. Also, when you book a house, it is natural to think you are booking all of its rooms, but in fact the way the settings are on the booking, it says "1 room, 2 guests" or "1 room, 3 guests" -- I didn't notice this when booking, but it's strange to say the least. And it makes me think that this might be a pattern. As I've seen from the other bookings, the owner always comes over to greet his guests upon arrival (he lives next door). That sounds nice, but in fact it seems that he's checking in to see if there's an additional guest so he can charge more. To be honest, it kind of felt like we were being surveilled, as he pops by occasionally. I inquired about the fee later, and he got defensive and even started insulting us. Also: there's no hot tub, as listed...

Shane, It's a huge sin, not telling the truth, first when you made the reservation on Vrbo you only did it for two people, when you knew there were 3 people. It is false and it is very clear in the RULES AND POLICIES of the house, that it accommodates up to 6 people, however the advertised starting price is €240/night for 2 people, extra person costs €90/day. I don't understand what the admiration is now to come and protest, when in fact all you need to do is consult Vrbo's customer support to obtain the information that you was unable to see on the platform due to your inability. Shane wanted to cheat the system and not pay but she was wrong, in fact when she paid directly at check in the extra person didn't complain, strange that he does that now. For me, the important thing is that she liked the accommodation and was very pleased with the quality!

Perfect holiday home

It is a very comfortable and beautifully maintained house. Everything is new and of high quality. The kitchen is perfectly equipped and the bathrooms very modern and nice. There is a big and splendid garden with a lot of love to every detail. And above all, Joaquim is a perfect host who treats his guests as family members. We cherished the time spent there and enjoyed the proximity to the ocean & the promenade very much. Highly recommend the house to everybody.
