Excellent stay, the hosts do go above and beyond for you, good value for money stay. If you're looking for a getaway for a couple or small family then I would recommend here.
Wonderful stay over Christmas, first time away for the festive season! Cottage was lovely and cozy, hosts couldn't be any more welcoming. No query was too small for Janet and Mike, would thoroughly recommend this tranquil escape in the Welsh Hills
A wonderful weekend in this picturesque cottage.
Incredible gardens, scenery, location, cottage and a particularly good wood burner.
Mike & Janet could not have been nicer, and more accommodating, while we also had so much privacy and space in this secluded, calm and quiet location.
The stairs were pretty steep, but we managed to get a child gate at the top and our two kids loved their time there. We enjoyed walking up Sugar Loaf mountain together which was about a 30min lovely drive. Recommend the vineyard cafe enroute too btw!
Will definitely be coming back somepoint.
Tom & Sarah,
The property is in a beautiful part of the country and ideal for those looking for peace and quiet. The area is close to lots of beautiful areas to visit and the owners are so kind and accomodating, I would definitely recommend to those looking for some peaceful relaxation.
Just back from a wonderful weekend at Forest Cottage.
Lovely quaint cottage in a secluded spot.
We stay all over UK in these type of properties and this one is far superior, in our opinion, than many others we have stayed.
The Hosts are friendly and accommodating, nothing too much trouble and not intrusive (live in detached house next door but not so close).
It was so, so lovely listening to the many varieties of bird in the daytime and the Bats and Owls at night (so relaxing).
For us main positive over other hosts is that literally EVERYTHING is in the house (towels, bedding, pots, pans, plates, condiments, tea bags, kitchen roll, toilet rolls, etc, etc but most important unlimited supply of Logs for the woodburner). which is very important in a cold winter weekend.
Most Holiday homes with woodburner only have , maybe 1 basket of logs ? - so you have to bring your own.
Literally, just bring food and drink and away you go. GREAT.
The two tips I would suggest are - the 18th century staircase could be challenging for those with limited mobility and although the hosts directions to arrive at the secluded cottage are spot on, I would recommend taking a look at google street map before you set off for your stay.
Overall, I cannot recommend this accommodation enough.
We were warmly greeted by Janet who gave us a detailed run through of the cottage. They'd lit the fire before we got there. Very clean & tidy, very cosy too even in January. The staircase would be difficult for children or people with mobility issues. The main bedroom is really cozy, the bed was super comfy & the whole place just has a tranquil peaceful feel to it. The scenery is stunning & you feel like there's no one else for miles, but you're just 15 minutes from Usk. They've provided everything you need & are on hand should you need assistance. Delightful, exceptional 18th cottage that totally lives up to it's billing. Janet was lovely too, she came by on the morning we were leaving, told us not to rush off if we didn't need to, what a fabulous host. I would highly recommend stopping here if you get the chance.
We had a fantastic couple of days here, the cottage was really cosy and the wood burning stove was great.
Nestled in the edge of a woodland with views across the hills the cottage has the feeling of getting away from it all despite being at the end of the owners garden and only 10minute drive to usk.
Exceptional at all levels, very clean and well furnished, the location, views and garden beauty are beyond words. I highly recommend with a note about the fact that it is a bit difficult to manage the little (beautiful) stone stairs to the upper floor where the bedrooms are located if you are not very mobile; I enjoyed all details and the wood stove. Cannot get much better than this.
The very epitome of a rural idyll with fantastic accommodation and even more fantastic hosts and animals. We’re aiming to go back, when it’s just the two of us.
The outside space of this property is breathtaking! Three separate sitting areas with fabulous views and alfresco dining.
The cottage has everything you need and it was great to have a well equipped kitchen.
The woodburner was fab… we stayed in June but still needed the fire as the lovely old cottage has very thick walls.
Super comfy beds .. just be aware of the very steep slate stairs… not for the fainthearted!
Lovely friendly but non intrusive hosts - highly recommend this property for a relaxing break away.
Lovely location, exceedingly quiet except for the birds and other animals, caring and generous hosts. We enjoy the countryside and got it here, with 8 hens, 4 Guinea fowl and 2 dogs.
The property was incredible and the views from the front door were breathtaking. Lots of walks in the local area, full of ancient woodlands, hill and vale as well as a hidden castle!
We were able to nip across to Cardiff for a shopping day in less than 45 minutes. Our walk around the reservoir was an adventure and cosying up beside the log burner was a great end to every day.
The hosts were really welcoming and the facilities were superb, we lacked for nothing in what was a quiet and restful escape to some truly beautiful surroundings.
We loved it here. Setting is really achingly gorgeous. The cottage is lovely - as are it’s hosts. Log fire lit when we arrived. Cosy nights playing games and chatting to each other. Visits out to Usk, Tintern, Chepstow and Llandegfedd Lake for a canoe trip. Am home now, feeling restored. Will definitely come back. Thank you!
Perfect few days away….. The cottage was beautiful with outstanding views and the most enchanting forest behind us. Made some new friends too, the chickens and Fern the dog were adorable. We loved everything about it and by far the perfect place for peace and quiet away from suburban life. Mike and Janet were the loveliest of people. Would certainly recommend this gem of a place. Can’t wait to go back!
Thankyou Mike and Janet for giving us the opportunity to stay in you’re beautiful cottage x
Such a cute little cottage, especially loved the inquisitive chickens and the log burner fire. It had everything we needed and the owners were lovely and friendly. Definitely plan ok coming back again and will recommend Forest cottage to friends and family. Only grumble is that we didn’t stay longer!
For my wife and I this was the perfect, stress free, quiet location for a well earned getaway.
Mike & Janet were the perfect hosts, friendly and warm with a "part of the family" welcome. They gave us a low down on the walks and activities and we had a wonderful time. The views and scenery were outstanding, Constable would have struggled to capture it, and the cottage is just perfect. It is no exaggeration to say that we are going back in a week's time for an extended weekend. Very highly recommended.
We rented this traditional cottage for two nights with family, which included a 3 month old baby.
Very comfortable and well equipped. Beautiful gardens and views. We were very lucky with the weather so able to eat outside for all meals.
We couldn't explore the local area much as attending a wedding but would love to return and do some walking.
Janet, Mike, dogs and chickens were lovely. Very warm welcome and although we didn't need any help with anything I am sure they would support if required.
Wonderful three nights away in this beautiful cottage. Spectacular views, quiet location and homely accommodation. The gardens were the absolute highlight of the accommodation and we enjoyed dining and relaxing outside in total peace. The cottage is perfect and well equipped, with the kitchen and bathroom being the most modernised rooms and the rest is comfortably furnished. Mike and Janet are the perfect hosts - friendly and helpful with excellent communication and clear directions. The chickens were an added bonus, as were their beautiful eggs. Highly recommend and thank you so much, we had a wonderful holiday.
We had a lovely stay at the cottage. The owners were very welcoming, friendly and helpful. The cottage is set in beautiful grounds with plenty of outdoor space for relaxing - we especially enjoyed the outdoor seating areas (suitable for all weathers) for leisurely dining and gazing at the wonderful sky land and landscapes. There are a number of local walks full of sylvan delights, hollows and a hidden castle! The Black Mountains and Brecon Beacons are not too far a way. We would definitely stay again!
From the moment we arrived and had our first glimpse of the cottage we were blown away . It sits in the most amazing gardens . The hosts Janet and Mike are such lovely people and we really enjoyed our chats with them . Janet kindly let my grandson who is 6 help collect the eggs which he loved . Chickens were adorable , eggs were delicious! Fern and Milly were so cute ! The cottage itself is very quaint and cosy we had the log burner on at night . Comfy beds . Best night sleep ever as it was so quiet . Well stocked kitchen home from home .feel . This place like it’s owners is full of charm . Thankyou Janet and Mike it was wonderful .
