About this property
Clotted Cream Cottage
Clotted Cream Cottage is a uniquely charming cottage furnished and equipped to a good standard with a large, attractive and significantly extended garden. It sits in a the peaceful hamlet of Ash, just outside of Dartmouth where it enjoys pleasant country views. Just minutes from the popular beaches of Blackpool Sands and Slapton, it offers a beach holiday in a countryside setting. It's an ideal place for guests seeking peace and quiet. It is dog friendly and benefits from a hot tub and outdoor sauna.
A One of a Kind Cottage:
If you like the idea of a beach holiday but away from the crowds, then Clotted Cream Cottage is for you. It's located on a quiet country lane within the tiny hamlet of Ash, just two miles from the historic naval town of Dartmouth and within easy reach of nearby beaches and attractions.
The accommodation is on two levels and is ideal for families or couples looking for a peaceful rural retreat close to Dartmouth and the stunning Start Bay coastline.
Blackpool Sands beach is just a mile away. Slapton Sands and many other local attractions are also within a short drive.
The garden has been significantly extended to incorporate some of the neighbouring field and this means there's plenty of outdoor open space for dogs and children to run around it. Bring a tent, and let the children camp in the garden for an added adventure!
The cottage sleeps 4 in 2 good sized bedrooms. The Master bedroom at the rear has a super king size double bed, feature fireplace and views over the neighbouring farmland. The bi-fold doors open onto the decking area and garden at the rear.
The front bedroom has twin beds, a feature fireplace and plenty of space for younger children to play.
The Annex:
For larger groups, the cottage has the added benefit of an Annex. This is the converted space above the garage and provides two extra twin beds. It doesn't have its own ensuite facilities but is a perfect additional space for older kids or extra family members. It is recommended for use during warmer months only.
Guests are requested to state if they will use the Annex in order that it can be set up - otherwise it will be locked off. There is an additional charge to cover the cleaning and laundry of the Annex.
Oh...and there's Oak Tree Lodge:
The grounds of the cottage also include Oak Tree Lodge. This is a luxury 'Shepherd's Hut' that sleeps a further 4 people. Located discreetly behind a hedge within its own grounds and with its own private entrance, Oak Tree lodge is a separate but neighbouring dwelling that can be rented independently. A secure fence separates the area where Oak Tree Lodge is located and windows are directed away from the cottage. Separate parties can rent the cottage and the lodge without impacting on either's privacy or enjoyment of the outdoor space. Oak Tree Lodge is listed separately although lends itself to larger parties or those holidaying with extended family as both properties can be booked.
Yes... There's a Hot Tub:
Clotted Cream Cottage also comes with a private outdoor Hot Tub. This is for the exclusive use of guests staying in the cottage. Any guest wishing to make use of the Hot Tub must fully read and comply with the usage Instructions contained in the House Manual. We hope that guests appreciate that whilst this is a lovely added bonus of the property, it does come with its own health & safety risks. Guests must understand that the use of the Hot Tub is entirely at their own risk and the owners will not be held liable in any way for any injury, illness or death caused by use of the Hot Tub. An additional fee of £100 is charged for use of the hot tub to cover for servicing and treatment prior to the stay as well as the additional energy costs to keep it running.
The grounds of the cottage also has a 4 person outdoor sauna. Again, guests are reminded to respect this facility and comply with the House Rules relating to this.
Other things to note:
Clotted Cream Cottage is pet friendly, but Oak Tree Lodge is not.
We do not accept stag, hen parties or single sex groups without prior approval and ask that all guests are respectful of their surroundings and our neighbours.
Clotted Cream Cottage is located close to a working dairy farm and as such, guests can expect some farm traffic on the lane outside the property.
Parking is limited. There is space for 2 regular sized cars on the lanes outside. There are clear diagrams inside the cottage to show the best place to park in order to cause any blockage for passing farm traffic.
There are wooden floors in the cottage and two steps from the bathroom onto the landing. Guests are advised to dry feet if having taken a bath or shower to avoid slipping. There are also steps leading to the front door and from the cottage to the garden. For this reason, it is unsuitable for guests with impaired mobility.
The cottage is dog friendly as the garden is as secure as we can make it. However, it is particularly large and if four-legged guests are prone to running off, they should be supervised in the garden. For the health and comfort of all guests, we remind dog owners to clear away their dog's mess. Dogs should not be left unattended in the property.

About the host
Hosted by Kirsty
Hi, I'm Kirsty and have been hosting guests for many years in our much loved cottages in Devon. I live near Bath but have spent many a childhood summer down in the South Hams area and when I had kids of my own, I couldn't wait to take them there too. No matter how busy or stressful live seems to get, a night or two in the Devon countryside is a perfect reset. Dartmouth and the area surrounding it, is definitely my Happy Place!
I love hosting as it gives me the chance to share the joys of Devon with others.

Why they chose this property
Having spent many childhood summer holidays in and around Torbay and the South Hams area, it holds a very special place in my heart. So much so, that when as an adult I came to look at a run down cottage that was on the market - I couldn't resist! That was 20 years ago and we have enjoyed many long beach days, sunsets and starry nights there since then.
The unique combination of gorgeous beaches and beautiful countryside make this area truly wonderful - no wonder its a designated area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Blackpool Sands - arguably one of the most unique and beautiful beaches in South Devon is just over a mile away, with its crystal clear waters and wonderful vibe, its been pulling visitors from far and wide and yet is never crowded! If you're feeling adventurous, you can walk there from the cottage, take a dip, eat a gorgeous breakfast in the Venus Cafe and burn it off as you head back to the cottage :-).
Further along the coastline, there's Start Bay and Slapton Sands which are dog friendly, and Beesands too.
Walkers are able to access the South West Coast path which runs right past Blackpool Sands or take the car to the National Trust site of Little Dartmouth where you can walk round to Dartmouth Castle, taking in Sugary Cove along the way.
For family fun whatever the weather, Woodlands Theme Park is just a few minutes drive too - offering an action packed day out for kids of all ages.

What makes this property unique
Clotted Cream Cottage is our cozy little haven, a place that we've lovingly restored and tamed over the years. It's got a charmingly rustic feel, so if you're expecting a high-tech, sterile, space-age pad, then you might want to keep looking. But if you're after a place to truly unwind and let loose, then you've hit the jackpot! Bring your four legged friends and kids back from the beach, sand between their toes and salt in their hair - no worries here! We're all about creating wholesome memories and having a blast!
Be forewarned, though - we're smack dab next to a working dairy farm, so don't be surprised if you catch a whiff of the great outdoors! And, sure, you might spot a spider or two - but hey, they're just part of the family!
The cottage garden has been expanded and is a lovely spot to let your little ones and furry friends run wild. Pitch a tent there for a real adventure or just have a ball playing games under the sun. Just keep in mind that it's not exactly Fort Knox, so if your pooch is a bit of a Houdini, you might need to keep an eye on them.
But the real star of the show is the hot tub in the garden. This little oasis is exclusively for our guests, so soak away under the stars and watch the swallows swoop and swirl around you. It's pure magic!
Although its just a couple of minutes from Dartmouth, Clotted Cream Cottage is a true escape. Wake to the sound of bird song and loose yourself in the peace and quiet. No matter how long you're able to stay, the cottage should recharge and restore you.
