Roussospiti is the most suitable place to totally relax and enjoy the stunning views of the area, as well as the nature! It’s ideal for walking, cycling and revitalising! It’s a vibrant village with a playground, two tavernas, a traditional cafe and a mini market! All within walking distance. Through a scenic drive in the countryside you’ll be arriving at the village of Roussospiti, which has been classified as a preserved and traditional heritage site of great cultural value. Roussospiti is also offered as a great base for exploring the nearby villages! The Mili Gorge, the picturesque village of Chromonastiri, the nearby village of Saint Irene (Agia Irini) where there is the homonymous old Monastery. Additionally, from the village you can easily reach the highway leading to Chania and Heraklion cities.
The village is located on the slope of Vrysina mountain at an altitude of 300 meters and at a distance of 9 kilometers from Rethymno. In the settlement with a wonderful view of the Cretan sea there are many Venetian houses, a 17th century fountain and the church of the Entry of the Virgin, where many frescoes are preserved. It is known as “the balcony of Rethymno” thanks to its outstanding view of the area, the sea and famous White Mountains!
500 m. south of the village is the cave of Lygeri, formed in neogene limestone. The cave features stalactites and stalagmites, with a 250 m long corridor. According to the legend, a lightsome girl died there. A second version wants the cave to take its name from a brave woman, whom the Turks, after capturing her, forced her to change her beliefs, and then sent her as a slave to a harem in the East.
Rethymno Beach is the closest at 7 km. Close enough is Despotiko, Koumbes Beaches about 8 km away. Platanes beach is 9 km away.
The closest south beach is Damnoni in about 42km and Plakias 43,5 km.
