About this property
3 ft from water - tiny house with everything you need
Birch is a studio built in 2017 - square log construction. Many guests describe Birch like being on a houseboat. When you sit on the couch or glider rocker, you can only see water. Complete kitchen with microwave, full refrigerator, dishwasher and range. There is a place for everything. This is a more private location at the very east end of the resort. It ’s also our closest cabin to Big Sand Lake–about 3 feet. When you look out the huge front windows, it looks like your floating on the water. The Birch studio home is a favorite for cuddling couples and small families.
Our Pine Cone Lodge Resort is located between two lakes! More rustic and scenic Loon/Thomas Lake is shallower and great for bass and panfish. It does not have public access. There is public access on Big Sand Lake on the south-east shore.
This property is not available for VRBO rentals in the summer Memorial Day through Labor Day. We hope you try out this property at Pine Cone Lodge during the fall, winter or spring.
Sleeping arrangement: Queen bed and the Loft above has a twin bed. Daily visitors are $15/day that you pay during stay. Dog fee is for only 1 dog.
Our prices include all fees. No hidden fees.

It all started with great communication by the host. This is a perfect place to get away and enjoy the outdoors! This place was very clean, with all the amenities and a great view. We will be back!!
It felt very cozy and since it is last cabin along the property it felt private as well even though it’s part of resort. Host was very accommodating to our request for earlier checkin and communication was immediate. Thanks for a great getaway!
My mother in law and I came up for a long weekend and the cabin was amazing. It was such a cozy cabin to relax and spend the weekend in. Bonnie was very responsive with questions we had, the fireplace wasn't working when we got here but it got fixed the next morning. It was such a beautiful view from our cabin and being so close to the lake. We had a great time. We would highly recommend Pine Cone Resort. It was a nice winter getaway!
We had a wonderful stay! The host was very helpful and we had everything we needed for a quiet weekend getaway. We visited with our dog. The cabin was wonderful, very well planned and maintained. Lovely view of the lake. Restaurants within 15 minute drive to park rapids. Itasca state park is about 25-30 minutes away, so we got in a good day of hiking. We will definitely be back!
This hidden gem at the edge of a resort was a beautiful space to relax and enjoy the beauty of Big Sand Lake. The spacious and efficient interior compliment the private firepit area and dock. Everything was clean and organized, with everything needed for simple cooking. This will be on our list for future a getaway!
Bonnie was exceptionally welcoming. I celebrated my 40th birthday there. I can’t stress how amazing of an experience Birch cabin is. Clean and inviting is an understatement. Just about anything you can think of is there and then some. The amenities are as advertised. Love Birch!!!
Cabin is adorable, and everything is in great condition. The only thing that could be improved, in my opinion, is to provide more clear directions on how to get to the cabin - we arrived after dark, and were confused, as the road that leads to it, is a single lane, and didn't look like a through -way.
Absolutely beautiful cabin! It was spotless, peaceful, and had everything I needed for a relaxing stay. The surroundings were serene, and I enjoyed every moment.. Highly recommend—I will be back in October!
It was true—everything I needed was there for my short stay. Comfortable bed, hot shower, comfy couch. Being so close to the lake was amazing, and the quiet was so restful. Loved all the windows!
Although we weren't able to get out ice fishing or hiking due to the weather, we enjoyed the area and exploring local towns. The cabin was very comfortable and clean. We loved the huge windows and view of the lake! Very quiet location despite construction during the week. Thank you!
This was a very cute little cabin to stay at, perfect for 2 people. We loved that it was at the end of the resort property, so all we could see out of the windows was the lake and the trees. Being able to use the small dock for casting off and the fire pit at night were great bonuses. Bonnie was really great to work with and made a point to check on how our stay was going when we saw her working around the resort property. We would definitely stay here again if there are ever any openings!
This cabin is the perfect size for 2 adults. The queen bed was very comfortable. The kitchen was well stocked with cooking pans and utensils, plenty of dishes and glasses and coffee mugs, Toaster and coffee maker. There is a charcoal grill and fire pit out side. The dock was short and we could not fish off the dock. There is a loft with a twin bed which we didnt use. Overall its a beautiful cabin, the lake was beautiful and the views of the lake from the cabin are beautiful. It was fun watching the loons! Bonnie checked in with us when we arrived to make sure everything was good.
I completely loved my stay at the "Birch," Pinecone resort! This cabin is at the end of the row, so there was only one other cabin on one side! The other side, all woods, private, and the firepit. The studio cabin was the perfect size for me and my dog. Although you could easily sleep three or four with the loft and main bed. My favorite was the expensive windows in the front overlooking the lake with pine trees hanging over the edges. It was so peaceful, so serene. I imagine in the summer months it will be a lot busier, but I definitely plan on going back!
We stayed in the Birch cottage. It was clean and cozy, and the views of the lake were incredible. We had everything we needed to enjoy our stay. Highly recommend Pine Cone Resort!
It was a wonderful experience. The cabin is beautiful. It was quite, we were able to watch the ice recede on the lake it was magical! We will be definitely coming back!
While the cabin is small, it is mighty! The entire cabin has high end finishes and so classy but comfortable. The layout of the cabin was very thought out and had everything we needed. The beds were comfy. We so enjoyed our little ice fishing get away. Strongly recommend!
Thank-you! It was very noticeable that whom-ever put the finishing touches on the cabin was an artist. Definitely planning on returning.

The Brand family has owned Pine Cone Lodge and Vacation Rentals since 1960 with the third generation starting in 1995. We have changed the resort to be more of a vacation home getaway for our guests. We have removed the old cabins and built homes that are open year round. New homes with the beautiful scenery and lakeshore make a wonderful vacation spot.
