Not clean

Definitely feel like it could be cleaner considering we have to pay a cleaning fee. The lamps beside the bed where covered in dust. The ac unit filter you could tell hadn’t been changed in about 2 years. Bug all over the night stands and floor. They used window units which is fine but need cleaning it’s smelt like moldy and musty in rooms.

Star of Texas

Vaca provided excellent instructions and responsiveness to questions. They did a great job. The house was very much as represented in the photos. The price of the house is high given the property when you include all the fees.

River Trip 2023

We love the location and size of house and cottage. Did turn in a few things that needed attention (repairs and housekeeping). We still had a good time!

Beautiful spot, Plenty of rooms

The houses were great for our group of mothers and sons. Plenty of beds, great outdoor spaces with 2 decks. There are steep stairs to the lower deck and to the river so might be tricky for small kids or elderly. Kitchen had plenty of pots, pans utensils, bowls, etc.

Pros/Cons

Online pictures were deceiving. THE PICS NEED TO BE UPDATED. Bunk beds were posted in 2 different bedrooms but were not even there. Double beds, yes, but when you have older cousins that are teenager cousins and both sexes, they need bunks not beds. Dishwasher did not work! 1 roll of paper towels-only Pans were in bad shape 1 ply toilet paper Dining room table end by fireplace is broken Tons of leaves on walkways made them slick All outdoor areas were covered in leaves Shower door in hall bathroom was broken Split/heat/ac unit in bonus room did not put out heat - just cold air! cottage bathroom door drug the floor and almost impossible to close Lots of room Beautiful setting

It was okay

Most of the outdoor lighting does not work. The house did not appear to have been cleaned recently. The furniture is older and some of it is broken. The location was definitely the best part.

Great yard!

I spent a couple of days during this stay mulling over what a fair review would be. I travel extensively and renting homes is the norm. I rent four homes this month alone and feel like I have a great gauge on what the market offers. There were many positives but also some negatives that had me torn. I settled on a four star review. The positives. Great location! This is in an amazing and quiets neighborhood with a wonderful yard on the river that can’t be beat. It’s spacious and beautiful and great for a large group. We spent a lot of time in the back. We were unable to get some of the flood lights on in the lower yard but it wasn’t an issue for us. We loved the little apartment on the side. We chose this house for the yard and that little bit of separation. One of our adults needed her own space for medical reasons. It had a beautiful view and the privacy she still needed with a large group of 9. The house itself is a great size and very accommodating for a large group or more than one family. It was also set up well with the basics for cooking. The property management was another positive They were quick to respond to questions and very polite. We appreciated the high level of communication. For these reasons the property was a 5. On the other end, the condition of the house itself was a hard 3. I knew from the images it was outdated in style so that was not an issue for me. What was an issue was the actual condition of the furniture. The main living area sofas are ripped in the back cushions and the arms and the seating itself is collapsing. When you sit on the sofa you feel the wood from the main frame on your backside. It’s so uncomfortable and the owner should really be embarrassed. There is no reason to have Dilapidated furniture in a rental that commands $500 plus a night. The mattresses are awful. Again, we don’t expect what we have at home but these are probley original to the house. Easily 15 plus years old. They are like camp mattresses. You can feel the springs and they are extremely uncomfortable. Three of us slept on the couches because the mattresses are so bad. The little apartment guest also slept on her couch verses the bed. There was also very limited hot water. We couldn’t get hot water in one bathroom and the water pressure was so low we couldn’t get the shampoo out of the girls hair. These are fixable things that really should be addressed.

Great place for a group

We stayed here with 3 different families and it’s a great setup for a big group like that. House and cottage were both clean. Beds aren’t the most comfy but that seems to be the case at most rental places. There’s a bit of deferred maintenance that could be done (some light bulbs missing or not working, covered deck had a ton of old dusty spiderwebs, etc) but really nothing that made any difference to us on our vacation. Overall we’d definitely stay again. We had our own tubes so we went upstream a bit and paid one of the outfitters a bit to park a couple vehicles and then just floated to the house, about a 3 hour float, it was perfect, did that twice and was a lot of fun.

Excellent location

This house was absolutely amazing for our big group (13). Plenty of space for everyone to relax and enjoy our vacation. Excellent location. Tube rental right down the street (could actually walk), excellent location on the river and easy river access on property. This was so nice and a major plus with our group because of all the kiddos. Plenty of outdoor space to enjoy the beautiful scenery as well. Property well taken care of and we will definitely be back!

Kid friendly river fun!

Communication with house management was excellent. My family enjoyed our stay at the Star of Texas. Water levels, even after much rainfall was perfect for our kids to play in. My husband and I were able to relax and watch the kiddos splash around. Patio was great at anytime of day. We will be back!

Family Trip

We had a short family trip here with 14 total people. Property is in a good location with easy water access and plenty of places to sleep. The property/house was semi-clean. We picked up beer cans and bottle caps outside upon arrival, the shower still had hair in it and there were random things you could see had been left in rooms just within first glance (shower cap, deflated balloon, large food crumbs). Not a huge deal, but we had quite a few small kids so we spent the first bit cleaning up. We also walked in and went to move a chair at the dining room table and it completely fell apart. We alerted management, but I'm glad no one sat in it as it could have easily injured them. Overall we had a good time. We would stay here again because it was a good amount of space for the people we had and the price was reasonable, so we could reason with the inconveniences.

Great Fall Break Getaway

We had a large group with varying ages-adults, kids and toddlers. We all enjoyed our time at this location! Beautiful view of the river and a quiet surrounding neighborhood. About 25 minutes to town and 23 minutes to Gruene. The back deck could stand a good dusting, as there were a lot of cobwebs around the pavilion and the lights didn't seem to work.
