The apartment was clean, well stocked, with luxurious bedding and a heated toilet seat. The host was fabulous and communicated well. I would recommend this to anyone staying in Salem!
Nice spot in the Heart of Downtown just as it says! Comfy beds. Mattress warmers and even a toilet seat warmer! All the amenities you need and a location that can’t be beat.

Very clean and convenient location!!!
Loved it. Only suggestion would be room darkening shades in the bedroom with a window 👍
The apartment was so clean and comfortable. The beds and heated toilet seat were fantastic. It is so close to the park and variety of restaurants. I walked everywhere. The park has a great walking trail. There were great shops nearby ( a fantastic bookstore). The free parking is nearby. The hosts were wonderful. I am seventy-two and the stairs (about 25) leading up to the apartment were no problem because they have rails on both sides (and I packed 2 small suitcases). I would definitely stay there again. One of my favorite VRBO stays.
This was a place close to the hospital where my husband and I could rest while our premie daughter was in NICU. It was comfortable and had everything we needed.
Location very convenient to restaurants and shops. Very clean and everything needed was provided. Would stay here again

Sharon if you want to stay here again why would you give it a four star review, I am completely confused? You have given me no indication or information of why you would not give it a five star review especially if you want to return.

Perfect downtown spot for a weekend in downtown Salem. Cozy, clean, really a perfect spot!
Super great place to stay in downtown Salem. There is a small convenience store on the corner and a Safeway that is about 5 minutes by car. Lots of local places to eat within a short walk. I particularly liked Archive, Taproot, & Fork Forty. The place is clean with a pleasant layout. There were enough pots/pans to make most things. The beds were comfy if a little creaky. The water pressure was decent and the heated & lighted toilet seat was nice at night and in the early morning. The living area is quaint and good for reading a book by the window or watching media thru the large flat screen. The place had an easy to use thermostat and the gas faux fireplace put out heat if you are right in front of it. Noise from the street was better than expected given how large the windows are. Lastly, I came in a little late and got confused by the keypad (though it was clearly explained, I was tired-reading and missed the pic of instructions). The host was immediate in helping and continued to be fabulous to work with. I recommend.
The family real like the place. Really beautiful and super convenient with everything you need in a walking distance. Will stay again next time we come back.
We loved being right downtown with access to everything we wanted. The apartment was very comfortable and supplied with all we needed (even soy sauce!). Great beds so good sleep. I would definitely stay there again.
This was a delightful home away from home for my wife and I and our young child. The space was very well appointed and thought through, and the location is awesome. Downtown Salem is a gem.

Thanks for the nice review! I’m thrilled to know that a child works well in the apartment. Also super happy you enjoy Salem. All my best, Angela Jones
My stay at the property was great. Convenient walking distance to state Capitol and restaurants. check in was easy and the place is very clean. Parking isn't the best which is why gave 4 of 5 stars on location/neighborhood. However, the options are not terrible.

The property is a nice small two bedroom apartment. A lot of very nice restaurants are within a block or so. There is a nice riverside park two blocks away.
The host was super helpful the few times we needed her. The apartment's location in the center of the city was great for walking, shopping and dining. And absolutely nothing was amiss or missing in the apartment. Best of all Angela was super helpful and accommodating. Maybe our best VRBO experience ever.

I am a native Salemite and Oregonian! Born and raised right here, "this is my town"! I have talked my long time friends into letting me open their old nannies apartment up for people to stay in, another great space in the heart of the city for folks that want and need to be downtown! Voila, here we are off on a whole new adventure and loving it!
Why they chose this property
The Christopher Paulus building is listed on the National Registry of Historic Places in the United States. The building was built in 1917 by local bar owner, Christopher Paulus. Mr Paulus fell in love with a young Salem woman from a good family who refused to marry Mr Paulus as long as he owned and operated a bar room. Mr Paulus eventually sold his bar and built this building to satisfy his soon to be wife. The building has housed several businesses on the ground floor and until 1992 the upper floor was used as storage. The building was purchased by Carole Smith and Eric Kittleson in 1991 and fully renovated by 1992, when they moved into the residential space on the upper floor. The upper floor consisted of a large loft for the Smith/Kittleson's and their two small children, and they built an apartment across the hall for the children's nanny. After the children grew, the Smith/Kittlesons rented the apartment to local citizens until 2018 then it became a short term rental.
