About the host
Hosted by Larry Malone
We are marriage and family therapists by profession. We've been in love with Pagosa Springs nearly as long as we've been in love with each other. Larry first visited in 1977 while returning to Texas from a backpacking trip in Wyoming. Even after feasting for a couple of weeks on the grandeur of the Rocky Mountains from New Mexico to Montana, there was something about Pagosa that stole his heart. When Evelyn stole the rest of it, he had to bring her here as well.
Why they chose this property
We've been coming here regularly since 1985 and owned property here since 1989. We bought our first VRBO property in 2013, but we wanted something larger with enormous, in-your-face views of the Weminuche Wilderness. This is it!
What makes this property unique
Looking at real estate has become a hobby for us, and we've looked at hundreds of properties in southwestern Colorado. We went through the stage many people do of looking at isolated places that are hard to drive to in the summer and inaccessible in the winter. Our first vacation rental was in a suburban neighborhood environment. It was nice but we wanted a place that was wilder with better mountain views and closer to our favorite hikes. We found it!
Even life-long Pagosa Country residents comment on the astonishing, up close mountain view.
At night, it's miles from a street light so we have dark sky for star gazing. The stars are so big they almost look wet. The quiet is so deep, we sometimes whisper reverently like we were in church. You can even watch for meteors from bed!
