Family stay in Vancouver

Great house, especially for kids with a trampoline in the garden. Fantastic location, Elizabeth answered any question we had and helped make our stay more enjoyable. Thanks for hosting us.

Family Reunion

This roomy and cosy home was the perfect place to host our relaxed family reunion. The farmers' market at the park across the street and the leafy Kitsiliano neighborhood were extra pluses.

Perfect In Every Way

Liz’s home in Kitsalano is the perfect house in the perfect location. We found everything to be as described and more. Liz accommodated several special requests both before and during our stay, always responding quickly and positively. The kitchen is a dream come true for a family gathering that can start on the comfortable and sunny deck, and then move in doors to a spacious cooking and eating area. The view across the park to the mountains is stunning. We will be back!!

We had a great stay, the house is lovely and the location is wonderful. The neighbourhood is an ideal base location for a visit to all parts of the city. Good public transport options into the centre of town. The kitchen is an amazing space and fully equipped for all needs. It is very much an in use family home you are renting and it has lots of the owners things throughout which makes things a little tricky for storing your things as a guest. There is not not a twin room as listed, there are three doubles and the bunk room with trundle bed. We did have the neighbours kids regularly playing on the trampoline in the garden ( they did ask if it was OK and were very polite so we had no issue with it).Overall we all loved our stay in Kitsilano at this house and would recommend it and would happily stay in it again.

Fantastic house and location

We had an amazing time staying at the house. It worked really well for our family and the 2 children really enjoyed the big trampoline in the garden. Liz was a great host and really good communication before and during the stay to make sure everything was ok. A great location, a nice park opposite with a playground and farmers market. Close to bus stops for easy travelling around the town.

family reunion

lovely home, across from park with farmers market on day we arrived, daily excursions to different Kitsilano coffee shops and book stores, Granville island were walkable and easy. Lounging and visiting with family in living room, big kitchen and back deck was exactly the vibe we were looking for.

Needs basic investment, cleaning and care

Great location yet Host’s property is lacking basic cleaning, fixing up, amenities and space for renters during our two week stay. Broken Living room TV (we were told it was due to Covid!) no effort to replace TV or solve problem despite us being on a two week stay with kids, worn and broken trampoline (one of our sons hurt his foot falling thru hole on trampoline), worn and tired towels, furniture etc Kids rooms Pillows and sheets stained and unhygienic appearance.. No space to store our kids clothes for two week stay. House is jammed packed all cupboards and storage space with Host’s things. Recycling and garbage area jammed packed with garbage and covered in flies / wasps. We had to clean the kitchen and garbage area with bleach on day two as we found infestation of “silver fish” bugs and flies bugs from garbage area coming in to kitchen when we cooked. Upstairs room were extremely hot day and night and no fans or A/C provided. 29 degrees one night. After complaining Host told us to open windows to create cross flow which did nothing. Downstairs renter brought a fan to loan us and this did little to cool down room for my teenager. Property description leads you to believe it is an entire home rental yet on arrival we discovered three adults living full time in the basement. Liz assured us they were quiet and would not bother yet on our third day one adult came up and complained our kids were making too much noise walking around in the mornings so we felt we had to walk on eggshells the rest of the stay. The kitchen is sold as a professional chef kitchen yet we found a stove top extractor which doesn't work and cooking a steak led to the hallway fire alarm going off for several minutes on two occasions. Fridge / cupboards are left with lots of Hosts food and no space for all our food during a two week stay so we had to keep our food on a counter top and that is when we woke to “silverfish” bugs on our food packages. No space for our kids to store clothes Host was very communicative yet offered no immediate solution to any of our complaints; instead blaming Covid for the reason many issues were found. No discount on our stay or money back was offered. Host Liz admitted the house is worn and told us the high cost to stay at her house is due to location in nice Vancouver area. We were disappointed (and surprised as not in line with the property description) with our stay from many angles.

We have been hosting for the past eight years and have a near perfect rating from guests. This guest was under quarantine for two weeks with his young family of 3 boys. Some of his concerns were brought to light during his stay which we were able to address. He seemed happy but two days after checkout, I received a voicemail threatening to leave a negative review if he did not receive a portion of his fees returned. What he failed to mention was the welcome package with wine and art, fresh flowers throughout the house, the Amazon packages I received for him prior to his arrival, the time I spent vetting his stay with Service Canada as he was under quarantine, the toys and sports equipment for his boys to play with, the fresh herbs in our backyard, the well-stocked pantry and the brand-new outdoor sitting area on the back deck. We went above and beyond for this guest but he chose to overlook many of these things. TV - is a brand new 58” smart TV with Netflix, Disney plus etc. It does however have a glitch in it where the sound temporarily cuts out. We walked the guest how to fix it which is the push of a button. There is also a second large TV upstairs which the guest had access to. Trampoline - one week prior to arrival I advised the guest that the trampoline was broken (part not available due to COVID) and not to be used. Linens - all sheets, towels, bedding and pillow are completely separate for guests. Sheets are 400 thread count and I set out fresh towels in each room. Storage Space - We leave ample drawer and hanging space for clothes during a guests’ stay but please note that all cupboards in the home are not empty. Garbage Area - Garbage is picked up every 2 weeks and Recycling every week. We keep this area clean and tidy (located 40 feet from the house). There is construction on the house opposite us that makes the lane dusty. Kitchen Overhead Fan - the fan does and we would have been happy to help had he asked. Fire Alarms - all fire alarms in the house are hard-wired interconnected which have been inspected. As a guest I would feel assured knowing the fire alarms were sensitive Silverfish - many older homes in Vancouver have these which are harmless and similar to an ant. The guest reached out about these. We fumigate yearly and will follow up with the pest control company. Basement - the 3 UBC students access their suite through a separate entrance and generally don’t use the backyard.

We fell in love with Kits

Elizabeth has been a wonderful host, always taking the time to respond quickly and help us with suggestions. The location of the property was fantastic for us, a family of six (three generations), being right on Connaught Park such a wonderful space and facility.. and being in the heart of cool, relaxed, friendly Kitsilano. Great restaurants and beaches nearby and easy transport options into downtown Vancouver. Perfect, brilliant place and time. Thank you Elizabeth! John Hawkins and family

Hello,

We're a family of seven living in Kitsilano. I'm a painter that specializes in 'art for little eyes' and my husband is a chef. We welcome you into our home that we love!

Why they chose this property

Born and raised in Vancouver - I love the accessibly of the ocean in the summers and the mountains in the winter. Our home is ideally situated - five minutes from the beach, 10 minutes from downtown and opposite a huge park with mountain views.

What makes this property unique

We love this house for the back garden, back patio and kitchen space. It's the hub and heart of our home and where everyone gathers.
