About this property
Modern Farmhouse in Niagara’s Wine Country
Historic and completely renovated two story farmhouse on a large lot. Beautifully appointed with custom wood features including a farmhouse table, island, reclaimed wood walls and shelving. Distinct modern and eclectic decor. Centrally located near the Falls, Niagara Parkway, Niagara on the Lake, casinos, wineries, and the largest outdoor outlet mall in Canada. A great gathering spot in any season with a full kitchen and outdoor space ready to entertain family and friends.
This property was originally known as the “Halfway House”, a tavern built in 1839. It was the only stop of the Erie and Ontario Railway, the first in Upper Canada. It was a horse drawn railroad that carried people and goods from Queenston (below the Falls) to Chippawa (above the Falls), an 11 mile journey. Halfway House was built as a tavern for travelers along the Portage Road. In 1895 the house was rebuilt, either on or using the stone foundation of the original tavern. A lovely stone barn from the original railway still exists on the property.
AN IMPORTANT NOTE: this property being located on an historic crossroads has become a major entry point into Niagara. As a result, street traffic can often be very busy during the day but quiets down significantly at night.

Why they chose this property
This property was a diamond in the rough when purchased in 2017. It was in a complete state of decline. It has been painstakingly restored and modernized creating a high level of charm and comfort. We have since restored the original Carriage House next door which we also offer as a vacation rental property (see listing VRBO 1648559).
What makes this property unique
This Farmhouse is filled with rustic charm within. The patina of the original wood floors tell the story of over a century of constant use. Introduced modern elements provide a striking contrast to its historic past and provide all the convenience and comforts of modern living.
The outside space is a dream garden with a patio for dining that includes a gas grill. A secluded fire pit area provides a wonderful retreat and includes firewood. The garden has been professionally designed and is planted with hundreds of spring bulbs, perennials, trees and shrubs, surrounded by mature specimen trees. The back and side yard are enclosed with a combination of fencing, stonewalling and gates.
