As mentioned, the HOUSE has one of the most desirable porches on the Melrose on the Beach cottage row! It is an extended porch 3-sided that has been upgraded to include a comfortable seating area for a family group and an 8 person dining table. And it looks directly onto the sandy Melrose beach and the Atlantic ocean!

There is also a second porch with comfortable chairs overlooking the Melrose Cottage Row side and providing another pleasant location for relaxing and reading.

Note that the equestrian center is also back in operation, and horseback riding is available.

The Neighborhood:
Daufuskie Island

You will enjoy touring "the island that time forgot" on either a golf cart or bikes, which are both available for rental. And there's no better place for nice long walks!

The wildlife is abundant and breathtaking. The resort is the home of a Great White Egret rookery, where you will see hundreds of these graceful birds settle in for the night. A nest of American Bald Eagles can be seen now and then, and some lucky visitors can actually catch site of a Loggerhead Turtle coming ashore to lay hundreds of eggs in the soft sand.

You will want to spend time exploring the rest of this unique and special island. Accessible only by ferry, Daufuskie's isolation from the hustle and bustle of the mainland provides a one-of-its-kind experience for those looking to truly get away from it all.

Getting Around:
NOTE: It is necessary to take a ferry to Daufuskie Island and the cost of boat and ground transportation is around $75-$85 per person roundtrip. We are happy to provide information about boat options and other information helpful for a Daufuskie trip. However, please note that we are not responsible for the availability of amenities that we do not operate and that are beyond our control. 2) Your rental agreement contract's cancellation policy states that we are not responsible for events that are beyond our control, such as hurricanes. We strongly encourage our guests to purchase travel insurance, and especially recommend "cancel for any reason" policies. (These must be purchased shortly after your reservation is made.)

3) Please note that because the Melrose Resort is in transition, our Melrose guests may notice a certain level of deterioration in the resort-owned buildings but will also see that renovation efforts are now underway. Our vacation cottages are in well-maintained areas and continue to be extremely popular.
