Prairie Lake is great for paddling and fishing. The gradually sloping beach is perfect for kids to swim, launching kayaks from, or just to relax in an Adirondack chair and enjoy the lake breezes. There is plenty of lawn space for games, fire pits to gather around, and a large deck for outdoor dining.
The peninsula extends out to the East, making it the perfect spot to watch the sunrises and moonrises. If you're lucky enough to catch the Northern Lights, the sky to the North is beautifully dark. We mention Summer activities quite often, but Spring, Fall, and Winter all offer memorable experiences here as well.
Whether you're visiting to marvel at the fall colors, warm up with a weekend of sauna sessions, or to jump in a frozen lake, we invite you to make Mallard Point your own.

Wonderful setting and thoughtful, fresh furnishings in each cabin. It was perfect for our extended family weekend in April. Who would have guessed we’d still be able to sauna and cut a hole to jump in the frozen lake, and ski across on a sunny day. Loved it. Thank you for offering it to others.
This resort was very close to Grand Rapids. Had nice beds and good beach for the kids! The living and dining room works for a few sitting down but we made it work for 8 adults. Shower/bathroom nice size and updated nicely!!
We had a blast! The amenities were great and it’s so peaceful there. Many of us kayaked for the first time. We felt tucked away with coziness! It will be our destination for our yearly mini-vacation from here on out! We left totally relaxed.
We had such an amazing time up north for the weekend! The location was fantastic, the cabins were so clean and cozy, we rented the pontoon for the day and it was perfect! The property owners were AMAZING and so accommodating!
We rented both cabins for our family vacation and we’re so pleased. Since we had young grandchildren they could go easily between cabins, we could use a fire pit nearby when they slept or the larger when all together. Best part was having the whole place to ourselves with plenty to do: swimming, great sand beach, fish, kayak and plenty of room to run or play lawn games. The hosts, Emily and James are wonderful

About the host
Hosted by Emily Bujold
After living in afar in Australia, Micronesia, and Japan and nearby in Wisconsin and Minneapolis, in busy urban centers and quietly afloat in the Pacific, the water was our grounding, our inspiration, and our source of renewal. Shortly after starting our family we began our mission to find a place on the water. After extensive searching, we realized it was just a short paddle across the lake from James’ childhood home here on Prairie Lake. We invite you to share this special place with us and soak up all the goodness the Northwoods has to offer.
Why they chose this property
We love how close we are to everything while still feeling away from it all. We have lakeshore to explore and admire in all directions, ultimate access to water that beckons adventure throughout the seasons, a humbling connection with the wildlife, and a peaceful place to spend time with friends and family.
We're just five miles from shops and dining in downtown Grand Rapids to the south and less than 10 miles from the National Forest to the north. Entrance to the Taconite Trail and Mesabi Trail, one of the longest paved trails in the nation, is less than two miles away. Access to numerous, well-maintained cross-country ski trails within 15 minutes. Direct access to the nearest snowmobile trail via the lake. The bait shop, convenience store and public boat access are just a half mile away.
What makes this property unique
Prairie Lake is a calm lake with little boat traffic. It really is a treasure for paddle sports, fishing, sunset pontoon rides and other passive activities, with quiet shorelines and places for exploration, such as small bays and The Gorge. And when you do want to get out water skiing, you have the place to yourself.
