Modern Lakefront Home on Pokegama · Sandy Swim & Dock
Skip the dated knotty-pine cabin. The Lake House is a fully remodeled retreat on Pokegama Lake — modern farmhouse design with genuine up-north warmth, right on the water with a sandy swimming bottom and your own dock.
The Home Taken down to the studs and rebuilt, this is not your typical cabin. Inside you'll find an open-concept great room with cedar-plank ceilings, designer lighting, and a bright kitchen built around a large quartz island that seats four to six. Cook a full meal on stainless appliances, gather on the sofa for a movie on the smart TV, and settle into a home that feels designed, not dated. A striking entry foyer and navy board-and-batten mudroom give everyone a place to land. Ductless mini-split A/C keeps things cool on warm lake days, and there's a full-size washer and dryer for longer stays.
Sleeping — Up to 8 in Summer
- Bedroom 1: queen bed - Bedroom 2: two twin beds - Bunk Room (detached, seasonal): two twin-over-twin bunks, bean bags, and a smart TV — a favorite with the kids
The heated main house comfortably sleeps 4 in bedrooms 1 & 2 (with an additional 2 if you use sofa pull-out bed). In summer, the detached bunk room sleeps 2 more, for a total of 8. Please note the bunk room is a warm-season space — it is not heated — and has its own private half bath.
Bathrooms: A full bathroom with tub/shower in the main house, plus a convenient half bath in the bunk room.
The Lake & Outdoors: Pokegama is a 6,700-acre lake known for excellent walleye, bass, pike, and musky fishing. This stretch of shoreline has a soft, sandy bottom that's wonderful for swimming and letting the kids play. You'll have a private dock for your boat and lake access right out the door. Between the house and garage, a spacious patio offers a gas grill and outdoor dining for eight, and a lakeside fire pit is set for sunset s'mores. Beach chairs, a cooler, and lake toys are provided.
Boat to Dinner: One of the best parts of this location: a lively beach bar and grill — with a sand beach, volleyball, and a docking station — sits just a quarter mile away at Zorbaz. Walk it, or pull up by boat. You can also cruise to the Pickled Loon Saloon, the public Pokegama golf course, and the lake's popular sandbars.
The Area: You're about five miles from downtown Grand Rapids, with restaurants, shops, the Judy Garland Museum, the Forest History Center, and the Children's Discovery Museum. The Chippewa National Forest and miles of trails are close by for hiking and spectacular fall color.
Arrival: A detached two-car garage is available for parking and gear, with room for several more vehicles in the driveway. Easy self check-in by keypad.
Whether you're chasing walleye at dawn, swimming off the dock, or grilling out as the sun drops behind the pines, the Lake House is your designer basecamp on one of northern Minnesota's best lakes. We can't wait to host you.

About the host
Hosted by Karl Larsen
My wife and I are from the area and love northern Minnesota for all of the wonderful activities that are available to enjoy: the lakes, the forests, the communities, and the people. We love to share northern Minnesota experience and know you will have a great time
Why they chose this property
The location is epic, as it's right down the road from a popular beach restaurant and bar that has docks to boat in for dinner, play volleyball, and enjoy live music. Great food at Zorba's, and Lake Pokegama has lots of attractions, including: - three different restaurants you can boat to - various sand bars you can visit and play at - a fun environment with great people and many fun restaurants and locations to visit in the area
What makes this property unique
The moment you walk in, you'll feel it. Most lake rentals on Pokegama and the surrounding area are exactly what you'd picture from northern Minnesota — older cabins with knotty-pine walls, dated furnishings, and that "grandpa's fish camp" feel. This home is something else entirely.
It's been remodeled down to the studs, with cedar-plank ceilings, designer lighting, a quartz island at the heart of the kitchen, a striking navy board-and-batten mudroom, and a crisp modern farmhouse exterior. You get all the warmth of a lake retreat, but in a space that actually feels designed for you to enjoy.
Then there's the location. Plenty of lake rentals say they're "close to restaurants" — but here, a beach bar with a sand beach, volleyball, and a docking station is just a short walk or a quick boat ride away. Pull up by water or stroll down the road; either way, it's the kind of resort-style amenity that turns an ordinary weekend into something you'll be talking about long after you've left.
And if you're traveling with kids, you'll love how this place is set up. The two-bedroom main house gives the grown-ups room to relax, while the detached bunk room — with kids' bunks, bean bags, its own TV, and a half bath — gives the little ones a space all their own.
Out on the water, the soft, sandy swimming bottom is a rare treat: no rocks, no weeds, just easy, barefoot lake days. It's a home built for the way families actually vacation — which is exactly why so many guests book early and come back again.
