Check-out instructions

The host requires you to complete the following before checking out:
Gather used towels
Remove leftover food and drinks
Turn off the lights, lock the doors and return the keys
The bear proof trash can in the garage opens by pulling the trigger inside the knob on top. Trash is collected at the curb very early on Tuesday and Friday mornings.
Please put all towels together in the larger bathroom.
Please lock all doors and return the key. Thank you!
Failure to complete these may result in a negative review from the host.
Please use extreme caution on the stone steps on the side of the house...and of course always use the railing.
The pond mud is a danger to pets (dogs have been stuck and sinking) so please be careful.
The fireplace has an old flue which must be opened completely before starting a fire.

Perfect getaway in a peaceful Highlands community close to the action!

This was our fist stay in this rental but it won't be our last! Our family makes frequent trips to the Cashiers-Highlands, NC area and we've found a new favorite spot to stay! This home is tucked into a quiet community but is less than a mile from the charming shops and restaurants on Main Street in Highlands. There are three large bedrooms in the main part of the house while two more bedrooms are accessible through the carport and each bedroom has its own full bath. The house is cozy but spacious enough for everyone to have their own space. A huge stone wood-burning fireplace is the centerpiece of the vaulted great room while a porch overlooks a large pond stocked with speckled trout. If you like to hike, discover waterfalls, rock climb, golf, fish, shop, or eat...this is the place to stay. We played several top notch golf courses, walked through both Cashiers and Highlands for meals and fun desserts, fished (my 7-year old caught a giant trout steps from the house), walked the beautiful golf course after hours, and hiked to the top of Whiteside Mountain (4950') but we were never more than 20 minutes from our rental home. The owners are very responsive and clearly care for their home. We had plenty of linens, blankets, towels, firewood, and every appliance and dishware item you need to relax and do nothing or cook up a storm for guests. Our 11-year old son, as we packed up to leave Highlands, said, "This cottage is really nice - can we come back here?" That's high praise! There are plenty of places to stay in Highlands but few would be a better fit for our family. We'll be calling Susan first when we plan our next trip to the NC mountains and we'll be hoping that her home (cottage) is available!
