In addition to a modern kitchen, our 1860's farmhouse features high speed Internet and new baths with whirlpool tub, pedestal sink, washer/dryer, and tiled floors and shower. Stone fireplaces and a wood stove add ambiance and warm you in winter, and ceiling fans in every room make the central air conditioning necessary only in the hottest days of summer. Lovely 19th Century wood floors grace the house throughout and historic, winding wood staircases lead to cozy but roomy bedrooms upstairs. They must be navigated with care and are unsuitable for small children and individuals with limited mobility or who need bedroom and bath all on one level.
The Farmhouse has 2 full suites, each with large eat-in kitchen, living area, screened porch, one large bedroom, and bath. The Pond View suite has a queen and twin bed, whirlpool tub and shower, and fireplaces up and downstairs, whereas the Mountain View side has a queen and double bed, large tiled shower, and wood stove downstairs.

Our 2 bedroom Barn Loft (VRBO #457779) has spectacular views of the Blue Ridge from every room. Entirely modern with glass front wood stove, slate and wood flooring, soapstone counters, and stainless appliances, this is a most special addition to our farm about an eighth of a mile from the farmhouse. We had another great stay at this beautiful property! Highlights - picking apples behind the house, fishing, swimming/paddleboarding, making s’mores and feeding the goats!
This is an absolute gem. 10/10 in every way. I am so grateful we had the chance to experience it and I cannot wait to get back. My kids (20, 12, 11) loved it all and begged to stay longer. We ate fresh duck eggs, hiked, fished, canoed, relaxed in the sun, made friends with all the animals, watched shooting stars, roasted s'mores, and fully disconnected from the rat race. The owner's communication is excellent and their energy is so welcoming and trusting. The farm helper Nahum was incredible and my kids said he was maybe the nicest person they have ever met. Honestly, I will never shut up about how amazing the farm is and how magical the weekend was for my family.
Kids really enjoyed time in the pond (canoeing, paddle boarding and fishing) this weekend. Baby loved time with the cats and baby goats/ducks. Fire pit with smores also a huge hit. Beautiful place and great hosts!
So many fun things to do with kids on the beautiful property - feeding animals, holding baby chicks, fishing, canoeing, hiking, fire pit/yard games. Kids are already asking to go back . Would highly recommend.
We stayed at Andrea and Steve's farm on a recommendation from a Facebook group for our kiddo's Spring Break. It was such a wonderful week, more than we could have ever hoped for! The property is breathtaking and the house is perfectly stocked and maintained. Our kiddos ran and played and loved on baby goats and had so much fun they asked to live there! Andrea and Steve were wonderful hosts and so helpful with tips for where to hike and eat. We can't wait to visit again!
We really enjoyed our stay at Cardinal Springs Farm. The farmhouse is charming and immaculate, and Andrea is a warm and welcoming host. We appreciated the fresh eggs and ripe blackberries. Just wish we'd had time for a swim in the spring-fed pond! Would love to return in the fall.

Lovely farmhouse on beautiful farm
Loved our stay at the farmhouse. The kids loved the animals that are on the farm, the cats, ducks, goats and chickens. We enjoyed the paddleboat and canoe on the pond. The listing was accurate and the owners very helpful and friendly. Shenandoah National Park is very close by. The grounds are gorgeous.
Hubby and I spent two nights and enjoyed everything from the incredible night sky (watched a meteor shower), firepit, grill/stocked kitchen, comfy beds, charming bedroom fireplace. The animals and property were so much fun to explore, and Sperryville comforts are right up the road. We felt completely safe yet with enough privacy to howl at the moon a bit, and feel free from the DC insanity. Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful storybook home, we can't wait to vome back.

The perfect virginia farm
Cardinal Springs Farm is an extraordinary place. It feels a million miles away from anything, but is super close to Sperryville. Andrea and Steve couldn't be more gracious hosts and the animals and grounds are like something out of a movie set because it's too beautiful to believe.

Fantastic Family Weekend!
Our stay at Cardinal Springs could not have been better! My wife and I, and our 4 kids (ages 12, 10, 9 and 5), thoroughly enjoyed every minute. Andrea and Steve (and Molly!) were the perfect hosts. So beautiful, peaceful and fun. The kids absolutely loved swimming in the pond and seeing all the animals. We all can't wait to go back! Highly, highly recommend Cardinal Springs!
Absolutely wonderful. Beautiful property and wonderful animals... kids were engulfed in a little bit of heaven. Thank you Steve and Andrea for letting us share in your dream.

Thanks to our hosts for a wonderful relaxing family 3 generational vacation on a glorious working farm in the mtns of virginia.all the kids from 4 to 64 enjoyed feeding the animals, fishing in pond ,boating in pond, falling in pond.we all enjoyed slowing down, grilling ,eating smores, reading books, doing puzzles, talking in the shade of the glorious old trees listening to the birdsong and watching the rabbits gambol by.we lived in the moment ,made wonderful family memories, thanks to our hosts. Also visited caverns, kids museums and hiked.
Steven and Andrea made our stay the Farmhouse fantastic. From fresh cut flowers to letting us borrow some paddle boards for the lake, the stay was well worth the money. The perfect location to easily get to hiking, breweries, and good restaurants. My husband and I go to Sperryville often, so we hope to be back. If you are unfamiliar with the area, Steven and Andrea go out of their way to give you great information about where to explore.
Be ready for spotty cellphone service and slower internet speeds. This location is perfect for an unplugged weekend with games, books, and exploring.
The farm was a wonderful spot for our family. The area is exceptionally beautiful, especially the farm, with its views of the Blue Ridge mountains, and its own rolling hills, bluebirds, farm animals, frogs, foxes etc. The animals were endlessly entertaining for my kids, and Andrea was very kind and welcoming, introducing us to the goats, chickens, mules, etc. The local sights were fun and interesting for us, including the Luray Caverns, and the local corner store and restaurants were great.
The house is nice and functional, but there were some harmless bugs in the house that my kids were worried about. This is typical for a country house, but I thought I should mention it.
We had a wonderful time at Cardinal Springs. The property is peaceful and impeccably maintained. We loved taking early morning walks and watching sunsets from high on the hill. The kids enjoyed feeding the goats, collecting eggs, and picking beans, tomatoes and boysenberries. They also swam and canoed in the pond. Our 9 year old caught her first fish! Andrea and Steve were incredibly hospitable and went out of their way to make us comfortable, even dropping off bags of fresh produce, filling the shed with firewood and setting up tables so that we could eat outside. We had a memorable dinner under the stars and made s’mores around the firepit. The farm is also in an ideal location, 5 minutes from the cute town of Sperryville and 15-20 minutes from Shenandoah. Truly a great place for a family to get away from it all!
For our family this was an amazing experience and escape. We are a very outdoorsy family and this beautiful stunning property allowed us to be outside 15 hours straight for 4 days in a row!
Watching your children frolic in the rolling fields with goats and feed ducks in the early AM is a gift. Andrea and Steve have curated this “heaven” over the past decade and have shared this gift with us all.
We harvested our farm fresh eggs each day, and caught over a dozen fish in the pond, off the gazebo, in the canoe or the paddle boat…the possibilities are endless.
We also loved to teach our children about the history of the farm land (thanks Andrea & Steve for the education!) – it’s amazing what is just an hour from the city when you look for it.
Cardinal Springs Farm - we will be BACK!

Idyllic Retreat, Full of Fun and Relaxation!
Our extended family, including grandparents, children, and dog, enjoyed a lovely long weekend at Cardinal Springs Farm. The whole property is picturesque - full of history and natural beauty. We were very comfortable in the charming farmhouse - plenty of space for everyone and many amenities. Andrea, Steve, and Mollie were gracious hosts and we felt very welcome from the start.
Our children *loved* the pond. They enjoyed swimming, fishing, and boating while the adults enjoyed relaxing on the covered deck. Mollie was our friendly lifeguard and we enjoyed her company.
We all also enjoyed spending time with the animals - cats, chickens, ducks, guinea hens, goats. The eggs were delicious!
The doughnuts from Creekside Bakery were amazing!
Overall, a great experience for everyone. We all found what we needed - relaxation and/or adventure - and we can't wait to come back!

Picture perfect
Our family spent Thanksgiving at the farm. We enjoyed the animals, the hiking, and the surrounding area. the owners were friendly and helpful and often around. We collected eggs from the chickens and feathers from the guineas. Lots of fun. The lake was perfect for a peaceful paddle but the fish were not biting. The farmhouse itself was cozy. The kitchen was well-appointed. We had some difficulty with smoke inside from the fireplace. The internet was a bit spotty which caused some grief watching the Redskins game. The house is split evenly down the middle into two apartments. The walls are thin and anytime someone was on the stairs in one apt, the footsteps were very loud in the adjacent apt. No big deal as long as it isn't someone you don't know disrupting your slumber. I would not want to rent one side and have strangers in the other side. Way too close for comfort, but fine for a small family.

Lovely house and farm - a nice relaxing getaway
We stayed at Cardinal Springs the first week of April, and truly enjoyed every minute of our visit. The house is charming and cozy, nicely decorated and furnished with everything we needed. Our family of four had plenty of room to stretch out, and the layout allows privacy so everyone could have their own space. The kitchen is well-supplied with dishware and cookware, so it's easy to prepare meals. The house was very clean, the bathrooms and kitchens were new, and there was plenty of hot water and towels for showers and baths. The house has a rustic, relaxing atmosphere.
The farm with the animals was the big attraction for us and our kids, and it was everything we had hoped for! Outdoors, there was a lot to do right near the house, so the kids could explore outside and we could watch them from the covered porch or the screened back deck. We spent a lot of time walking on the farm, and visiting with the animals, including ducks, cats, goats, chickens, cows, dogs and mules. We collected eggs every morning from the chickens, and got to hold the baby chicks and baby ducks. There is also covered gazebo near the pond which we fished from, and a stand up paddleboard and a canoe.
The owners, Andrea and Steve, were very friendly and helpful, and introduced us to all the animals and encouraged the kids to help, for example letting the ducks out of their house for the day and collecting the eggs from the chickens. They also gave us good recommendations for a horseback riding experience and fishing trip in the area.
Overall, this is a great place, and we loved it! We hope to return again sometime!
