This was a wonderful experience. The cottage was very comfortable and had everything I needed. It felt like I was staying at the home of a friend, while also being very private. The kitchen was small but much more well-equipped than most. The location was ideal.
My sister and I were extremely impressed with the property and our host, who provided more than we ever expected. Its location was ideal for travel in and around Summerville. We highly recommend this enchanting cottage.
Beautiful location nestled in the trees and the cottage was very comfortable. Susan was more than accommodating and gave us the best recommendations on things to do and see. She is a delight to talk to and can easily be a lifelong friend. This far exceeded our expectations and we will most definitely stay here again.

The pleasure was truly mine. Wonderful to intersect with you and your sister at the crossroads of so many positive events your lives. Till the next time; happy trails!
We had a great time at our Summerville rental. Susan, the owner, was so hospitable and knowledgeable of the area. She helped us plan our time in Summerville and Charleston to make the most of it. We also had fun getting to know Susan while relaxing on her porch. We strongly recommend this property and look forward to visiting again.

It was a true pleasure to have Christina and her family in our midst -- lovely spirits all.
I have stayed at a lot of vacation home’s threw out the years that were nice. I have never had the feeling at any of them like being at home like this one. It was very homey. Susan made you feel right at home and made herself available any time. Very cozy and decorated adorably. Lovely histrionic district and a short drive to Charleston. I will stay there again.

Kathy,
What lovely words! Thank you. It was a true pleasure meeting you and your family. You captured the spirit of the place with your own convivial spirit! I look forward to your return!
All the best!
Susan
I had an outstanding stay. The cottage is spacious, clean, and remarkably eclectic. The amenities--linens, towels, toiletries, kitchen provisions, etc.--are the best I've seen in a VRBO property. The bed was made up with comfortable duvets, the towels were new, thick and luxurious, the toiletries were full and professionally laid out, the kitchen had everything I could possibly need, and a bottle of red wine was set out with two glasses on a silver tray upon my arrival.
The real star of this review, however, is the host. Susan is an absolute gem! She met me to introduce herself and make sure I had everything I needed and that all was satisfactory. When I requested an extension that overlapped with a prior booking, she took it upon herself to find "gap" lodging for me during the time of the prior booking. She made my problem her problem--it doesn't get any better!
I have nothing but good things to say about this property and the host.

Wow! Just read your review! Makes me want to book a stay in the cottage! Truly, of the many, many guests I've hosted, you are among my very favorite! You AND your peeps. I understand first-hand your desire to spend time with you sister. What infectious energy she has. She's living life to the fullest. She told me that since you all were children you've not spent so much time together, and she is absolutely loving it! These are gifts for true! Thank you for finding your way to my cottage. My door is always open to you. :)

Summerville "Cottage" review.
The location of the house was perfect for what we needed. The outside of the house and the porch were very inviting. The host was very nice and kept us very informed and stayed in touch the entire time. The inside of the place we stayed was not what we expected. When we tried to book the actual cottage that was listed, the host contacted me and said that it would only be available for only a portion of the time we needed it. She then offered the entire floor of the main house for the same price. We were told that there was a person and a dog upstairs and we were ok with that. The host had an emergency situation so the house was not ready when we were due to check in. That was not an issue. The house itself kind of was. We had a bedroom but the dressers and most of the closet were full. We did have the use of two full bathrooms which was nice and the bed was very comfortable. We had no place to put our luggage because the other rooms on the main floor were off limits due to them being full of stuff. We also had full use of the kitchen and a refrigerator to our selves. The living rooms and dining rooms had a great amount of clutter and the house had a smell of mildew. The host was very open and really made an effort to make us feel at home. I would do business with her anytime but I would not stay in that particular house again.

The main house is a large and beautiful historic home. Under normal circumstances, it lives beautifully. Unfortunately, I found myself dealing with two separate medical emergencies with family members--one the day before Francine's arrival and one the day of. I sent her a note apprising her of the situation. She was gracious in her reply. I thanked her for her understanding and said I might not be fully ready upon their arrival, but would have the master bedroom and kitchen ready so they could settle in. Two bathrooms, master bedroom, kitchen, yard, driveway and commodious porch were ready. What I was not able to do before their arrival was fully empty the dresser in their room or relocate my office from the dining room to a fifth bedroom we use for storage. So, yes, the dining room was, unfortunately, cluttered. I asked if they thought they might use it during their five-day stay and they indicated they would be involved in wedding festivities and would not use it. Given that, I did not relocate the legion of books and computers that I would have under normal circumstances. So, yes, it was cluttered. Life happens.
We enjoyed our stay in this cozy and charming cottage in Summerville. It is well equipped with everything you will need during your visit. Susan is quick to respond if you have a question or concern. She greeted us with a warm welcome when we arrived. We had a very pleasant time and highly recommend this property.
This location was central to everything that we looked forward to doing in the Charleston area, from Savannah to Myrtle Beach. We enjoyed many plantations, cypress swamp state parks, a monastery, Patriots Point Museum, Paris Island Marine Base museum, along with visiting the towns and cities in between. The cottage was perfect for us, and the host was always kind and gracious. We spent a full month here without any issues, and would recommend it highly. Thank you, Susan, for everything!

Doug and Jane were an absolute delight to host. Generous, genial, enjoyable! They left the cottage better than they found it. I would have them back in a skinny minute. Indeed, I hope they come back!
Just what I needed for a long weekend to visit family and friends in the greater Charleston area. Really enjoyed my time here. Will look here first for future visits the the area.
A stay at Susan's is a true taste of what Southern hospitality is all about.
Susan was a gracious and attentive host. She provided us with all the basic comforts and more. We rented out the upper floor of the main home on our stay. The home's downtown Summerville location was ideal for our needs. Bed linens were clean and fresh towels were provided in the bathroom along with other toiletries.
We enjoyed many evenings spent out on the front porch listening to the crickets, sipping wine, playing music, sharing conversation and charcuterie with both Susan and other house guests.
Overall it was a pleasant experience and we unexpectedly made some new friends in the process!

Kara and her wonderful family graced my home with warmth and conviviality. Front porch gatherings were a musical delight -- guitars! vocals! drumming! and, best of all, great conversations. They treated my house with the care they would treat their own. Much to my pleasure and that of many others who were on campus during their stay, Kara and her sister Sarah and their spouses found homes in town and all will be relocating here this fall. New friends and neighbors! Lucky us!
We reserved this wonderful home not realizing we would be sharing the property with others. It was such a wonderful experience, I feel that we connected with everyone and made long term friends. I am very grateful to Susan for opening up her lovely home and embracing our family, the dogs and the music. :-)
We stayed in the main house on the property. We were greeted by other guests, Edie + Rob, who were very welcoming and showed us around.
We met Susan the day after arrival. She is so lovely! We enjoyed her company as well as the home. I really loved the names of the rooms and all the unique paintings, antiques, fixtures, and colourful walls. The house is a dream!
Thank you for having us and allowing us to stay in your home.
We hope to visit again someday and we will definitely book with Susan again. X

Sydni and Mitch are dream guests! They came with baby Abrahm and all wore smiles aplenty! Mitch is an arborist and strolled the grounds of the compound with me and gave me invaluable insight about the many mighty trees on the property. I would happily host them again and again!
Good location. Great host that responds quickly to any concerns and is always willing to help make sure you have a good stay.

The property is beautiful with lots of trees, and such a wonderful location. So close to downtown.
We stayed in the Cottage over two months. It was a wonderful experience. The Cottage had everything we needed, and lot of space to spread out. We loved Susan. What a wonderful and kind person. She was so helpful with everything and made sure we enjoyed our stay. I would highly recommend staying here.

About the host
Hosted by Susan Kammeraad-Campbell
I am an author and editor and the publisher of Joggling Board Press, an independent book publishing company dedicated to the creation of award-winning books in the spirit of the South, thus the surfeit of books in the cottage. My husband Lars is a professional captain of luxury sailing yachts and a fine woodworker. We have a quirky basset hound husky blend (a basky) who fancies himself a fine fellow (we do, too). My late husband, a professor of political science, and I spent a year researching the globe to determine the place we wanted to raise our three daughters. Summerville and the historical house, gardens and cottage that would become our home have proved to be everything we hoped it would be. Our children are all grown. Lars and I are now seriously contemplating housing chickens in the backyard.
Why they chose this property
Our home and cottage are located in Summerville's historic district with majestic trees on a nearly two-acre lot within easy walking distance of Azalea Park, downtown's Hutchinson Square and all the delights this town has to offer.
What makes this property unique
The Manse on Main is a stately property built in 1948 by a lumber baron and his wife. The workmanship of the home is a thing to behold, so, too, the gardens, governor's driveway, courtyards and lovely outdoor seating areas. We are in the process of renovating the built-in pool, adding an outdoor kitchen and pool house cabana, which will all be available to guests when completed.
