Beautiful Cotswolds cottage in Charlbury - perfect for groups or families
Welcome to my lovely Cotswolds cottage in beautiful Charlbury old town, just a walk from the train station and bus stop. I recently refurbished it, keeping the original old beams and exposed stone walls and adding modern bathrooms and extremely comfortable hotel-style beds.
Jasmine Cottage is home to my daughter and me for some of the year. I rent it out when we are not there. Guests tell me it's a real home-away-from-home, which is exactly what I've tried to create. Complete with guitar, books for all ages and games. And in winter, you can warm yourself sitting by the cosy wood burner... I swap the furniture around in winter so the sofas are by the woodburner.
You can walk everywhere in Charlbury... There are four pubs within a 3-minute walk. Two are destination gastro pubs with incredible seasonal and locally sourced food. The Co-op grocery store is open late 7 days a week, there's a lovely deli, a Brazlian restaurant, another cafe called Chloe's cafe which does delicious locally sourced food again, mostly salads etc... There is also a pharmacy, a pretty wooden play park for kids (with zip wire, swings, tennis courts, a gym, cricket club, see-saw and climbing areas, and a public library (including children's section), with friendly cafe and picnic area and sports hall. The train station and bus stop are also a short walk away...
With great access to London, Oxford and the rest of the Cotswolds, Charlbury is perfect for walkers, romantic weekends away or families of local residents coming to visit and wanting their own space. The house has a great entertaining space with a dining table that can seat 8.
Do please get in touch if you'd like to discuss discounts for longer stays.
The house sleeps 7 in 4 bedrooms - two superking bedrooms, each with 6 ft wide (180cm) zip-and-link huge beds - one double bedroom with 4'6" wide (135cm) bed - just about big enough for two people or luxurious for one! - a very small third bedroom with a large single, i.e. 4 ft wide (120cm) bed, which sleep one person very comfortably.
If you have children, let me know if you'd like me to provide travel crib, high chair, toddler chair, etc.
I have a massive (11 ft x 8 ft) Spring free trampoline in the garden. Use at your own risk - don't wear shoes on it but wear clean socks! Please weep off any leaves etc and keep it clean. My daughter is very proud of her trampoline and is keen that guests look after it as well as she does!
It's a 15-minute drive to Soho Farmhouse/ Daylesford/ Woodstock/ Blenheim Palace and 20 minutes to Burford. You can get there by bus or drive.
The house itself is a pretty, Cotswold stone cottage (c. 1890) in a terraced (i.e. not detached) row of similar stone cottages.

- fully equipped separate kitchen with Stoves range-style cooker with induction hob and three ovens, microwave, dishwasher, large fridge-freezer, French press for coffee, coffee bean grinder, milk frother, toaster, Quooker tap (gives filtered and boiling water)…
- patio with outside table and chairs to seat 8 people... and garden with lawn/grass. NB There are steps fro the patio up to the lawn (grass - about 50 metre sq) so small children will need supervising outside.

- Bedroom 4 - with a large single (4' wide) bed which I count as a single bed. This is a small room but super cute with a small bedside cupboard, but no wardrobe.
- Bathroom 1 – with brand new walk-in shower (rain head and also hand held shower head), basin and WC and underfloor heating
** Top floor (attic, with eaves) - Bedroom 1 - with super king zip and link bed, 2 small sets of of drawers which also serve as bedside tables, bedside lamps either side, hanging rail for clothes, black out lined roman blinds so you can lie in without being woken up the summer sun...

Arabella was very kind and helpful in every way nothing was too much trouble jasmine cottage is in a very pleasant location and is extremely comfortable with everything you would need for a enjoyable holiday
Fantastic little cottage with everything you could need!
We stayed with a baby and children and there was everything you could need!
Would have been easier to have access to the front door with a stroller but it was manageable.
Bella was very helpful and offered lots of suggestions for things to do in the local area!

So glad you had a great stay! Guests are welcome to use the front door as well as the back door - you're right, easier with a push chair! Next time :) Thank you for your lovely review!
We enjoyed a few weeks in this clean and cozy home with a prime location in the heart of a beautiful village. The ample kitchen is a delight to cook in, and the beds comfortable. We enjoyed the walk through Cornbury Estate to the Plough Inn at Finstock several times, most enjoyable! There are many walks to take from the village, not to mention extensive connections from the train and buses. Lastly, Charlbury has three welcoming pubs in the center. I would highly recommend! Thanks Bella!

I'm so glad you enjoyed Charlbury and my home! Thank you for looking after the house so well and you're welcome back any time!
Perfect spot for out Christmas vacation. Arabella met us at the house and personally oriented us. Also gave great instructions on hikes and other things to do in and around Charlbury. The town has 4 pubs, 2 of which are also inns with fabulous restaurants. Highly recommend The Bell and even more The Bull. Our host checked in frequently and accommodated any last minute requirements. Everything was perfect. If you need a family place in the Cotswolds I would highly recommend this spot.

Thank you for your very kind words, Dan! It was a pleasure to meet you all - and to host you! - and I'm so happy to hear you made the most of Charlbury and enjoyed my house!
I was deciding between several different nice looking options in the Cotswolds for our multigenerational vacation. I ultimately decided on Bella’s cottage because it was walkable to pubs and groceries, but mostly because it was clear from other reviews that she is a fabulous hostess. From the beginning, she was very good about reaching out with a ton of information about the area. This same contact continued throughout our stay. She was readily accessible and incredibly helpful. Her cottage was perfect for our whole family. I highly recommend staying in Charlbury for your trip to the Cotswold!!

Thank you Bella for another wonderful stay in your home. Bella couldn’t be more helpful as a host and consistently went out of her way to make our stay as easy and comfortable as possible. Her house is great for a small group and was the perfect base to explore the surrounding countryside and villages.

Thank you for your kind words and for being lovely guests. Great meeting you and hope to see you again!
Marvelous cottage, marvelous town, beautiful area, wonderful host. We were a party of seven adults sleeping 6 nights in the hosts fine cottage. One light was not working but the host had it fixed straight away.
Highly recommended!
Jasmine Cottage is delightful for a family stay and Charlbury is a lovely place to visit (even in winter). The renovation is stylish and practical. We loved the big open living area, the log-burner, the fully-equipped kitchen and the comfortable beds. The owner provided detailed guidance on both the house and the local area.
My family and I had a great stay here. Charlbury is a lovely little place which somehow manages to combine being small and quaint with very well serviced, with 3 pubs, a co op and a nearby station, as well as a lovely deli and a great play park, and loads of lovely local walks besides. The property itself is of a really high standard, super comfy beds and nice modern bathrooms, loads of stuff to do for the kids and a good garden space. We had a lovely time and would thoroughly recommend. Owner is also very friendly and helpful.

Jenny, I'm so glad you enjoyed Charlbury and the house! Thank you for your kind review and for leaving the house in an immaculate state. Welcome back any time - maybe skip the heat wave and come in the winter...
Traumhaft schöne Unterkunft in bezaubernder Cotswolds Umgebung

Fantastic home from home in a perfect setting
We loved Jasmine Cottage! Arabella has done a great renovation to this lovely old stone house so you really get the best of both. We liked the big open living area, the super comfortable beds and the stylish bathrooms. There were plenty of books and toys for the kids and even a piano for us to try. We enjoyed exploring the village of Charlbury and Arabella’s recommendations for The Bull pub and the local deli (soup and sandwiches) were helpful. Altogether a great find!

Perfect house for a Cotswolds family holiday! Amazing location
We had a perfect stay at Arabella’s gorgeous house. We loved the big open plan sofas/dining space and our daughters had a great time playing with the toy kitchen and musical instruments. How nice to have a piano and a guitar to play… Arabella was very thoughtful and set the travel cot up for us in advance, plus a video monitor. .She emailed us in advance with a very helpful guide to the neighbourhood. Charlbury is a beautiful place and we enjoyed just walking around. The classy kids play park and library/cafe were a bonus! We will definitely be coming back. Thank you!

About the host
Hosted by Arabella
I'm a music-loving mother of one gentle, music- and art loving 11-year old girl. I love travel, audiobooks, country air, home interiors, swimming... and above all my charismatic little daughter. I'm house proud and keep things rather clean and tidy, but I would hope that's a good thing! I live with my daughter in London.
Why they chose this property
I love my house. It's calm and homely. It's a short walk to everything and you don't need a car - the two amazing gastro bubs - the Bell Inn and the Bull Inn, the deli, Chloe's cafe, the new Brazilian restaurant the grocery store (Co-op), the Missing Bean coffee shop, gorgeous walks, woodlands etc.
Charlbury is very well connected and so a great place to base yourselves if you want to explore the rest of the Cotswolds. You can do it all without a car because both the train and bus stations are a few minutes' walk from the house.
It's been called the 'Notting Hill of the Cotswolds' and has attracted a lot of celebrities over the last few years, who dine at the wonderful Bull Inn just down the road.
It feels remote (at least from London) but you can jump on a train at Paddington and be walking through the front door in just over an hour
You can also get to Oxford easily by train and bus - and to Blenheim Palace, Daylesford and Soho Farmhouse. It's a 7-minute walk to the train station through St Mary's churchyard.
A note on the church - you'll hear the bell ring on the hour and also bell ringing practice on Thursday evenings from the house! We love that.
What makes this property unique
Charlbury is a great place from which to see the rest of Cotswolds. This little historic market town - which people refer to as a village - is quintessential Cotswolds, with Cotswolds stone houses, St Mary's church which dates back to the 12th century (you will hear church bells ring on the hour), the cosy deli (cafe), the 2 in-demand gastro pubs within a 3-minute walk of the house, Chloe's cafe, the Brazian restaurant, the cricket club, the library, the playpark…
Charlbury is one of the few Cotswold towns to have a railway station. This connectedness to Oxford/London in one direction and Malvern/Bicester in the other makes it really unique.
Charlbury also has regular buses to Oxford, Witney, Woodstock, Chipping Norton, Bourton... If you are based in Charlbury, you don't need to have a car to explore the Cotswolds
Charlbury is very convenient for several music festivals - Wilderness Festival, Cornbury Festival, the Big Feastival (Kingham), Blenheim Palace events, Riverside Festival, Park Fair (Great Tew), Charlbury Beer Festival, Charlbury Street Fair, Moreton-in Marsh County Fair, Countryfile... And all the Art Weeks and open gardens in the area.
