My wife and I have stayed here for a few months in the winter for the last four years to visit our youngest son and his family. During our most recent stay, we bought a house in San Pedro to make it permanent. This place is very comfortable with a great location.
Escaped Illinois snow & cold for 2 months of San Pedro ocean breezes & 2 youngest grandchildren.
Very quiet location with very short walk to ocean. Clean, first-floor unit with private parking in back. Owner was very responsive to any needs; otherwise very private. For us, visiting family, it was a pleasant walk along Point Fermin to their house.

House is old and shabby
I stayed in this location because my daughter lives just up the road. She recently had a baby and a toddler, so I travelled from Australia to help her.
The convenient location was important, however, there were so many disappointments with the quality of the property.
I didn't want to nitpick to the property manager, until I saw a mouse on 2 consecutive nights running from the kitchen to under the sofa I was sitting on.
So I must also mention the sink had drain flies, which I eradicated using boiling water and home made traps of cider vinegar and honey. The oven is broken, which I only discovered at the end of my stay, having not tried to use it before then.
The beds all have plastic mattress protectors, very uncomfortable in L.A heat, and the doonas are synthetic, musty smelling and without washable covers. I ended up borrowing bedding from my daughter.
The lounge rug is dirty as are the sofa cushions, the fan is covered in dust and the property generally feels grimey.
The kitchen is well enough equipped, however, has only 2 mismatched wine glasses of different sizes, one looks to be a give away with a logo printed on it. The dish drainer is dirty, and there are no teatowels or sponge cloths to wipe the benches etc
I contacted Don, the property manager and he was quick to respond and try to resolve the mouse problem, but this involved quite a few visits from maintenance and exterminators and was asked to not leave the doors open so that rodents could not enter, even though the weather was sweltering and the windows very stiff to open.
I was also asked if I could pick up mouse traps at the store 8 miles away, even though I had no car. I didn't complain about all the other niggling issues because I could not afford to find alternate accomodation further from my daughter when I have no means of transport.
On the plus side, the location is very convenient to parks and the beach, and the neighbourhood is very safe and friendly.

As a VRBO host, I take pride in providing a great comfortable home for my guests. I also make it a point to always be available for any issues, questions, or assistance that I can provide to my guests to make their stay enjoyable. Now that the guest has checked out, I am learning about many issues that she had with the home for the first time. However, during the many times that we met and spoke in person, she only stated she saw a mouse and that she appreciated me taking action immediately.
I have never had a guest complaint concerning mice. For over ten years, I have had a contract with a pest control company that services the property throughout the year. I have never been notified of a mouse problem by the pest control company. It is important to note that the guest left the front and side door to the home open for multiple hours each day. I have never had a guest engage in such behavior.
Upon being notified by the guest in the evening concerning her sighting of a mouse, I immediately responded to her and sought ways to rectify the issue. Since I could not immediately purchase mouse traps and travel to the property, I inquired if the guest could temporarily obtain a mouse trap at the hardware store near the home.
The guest could not do so and I expedited delivery of several mouse traps the next morning. I followed up this effort by sending my maintenance worker to look for mice and install additional mouse traps. Next, I had the pest control company visit the home and check for mice and mice droppings on two different days. In total, I visited the home on three occasions, never saw a mouse on the property or in any of the traps. Finally, I provided the guest with the contact information for my maintenance worker and informed her that if she had any mouse problems, day or night, to contact him and he will come to the home. She thanked me for my efforts.
Neither the maintenance worker or the pest control technician found any mouse droppings or other evidence of mice in the home during their inspections. The only conclusion that all three of us reached was that if there was a mouse in the home, it likely came from the guest leaving the doors open for multiple hours each day. Upon asking the guest to keep the doors closed, the guest never mentioned seeing a mouse again. The guest stated that she left the doors open because the windows were hard to open. When I learned of this, my maintenance worker immediately checked all of the windows to ensure that there were no issues.
When the guest checked out there were no mice in any of the mouse traps and the guest requested money for multiple unspoken issues.
In between each guest, the entire home is cleaned for hours by a professional cleaning company. The cleaning includes the couch and bed linen. I am uncertain as to what the guest was referring to with respect to benches since the home does not have benches. The linen and couch are only a few months old. The guest never mentioned these issues to me through the VRBO app or when we spoke in person. When the guest was checking out, she decided to mention all of issues and requested a refund for her inconvenience.
Very short walk to Point Fermin and Angel's Gate Parks.
Easy, first-floor access for anyone with a disability. Owner/manager is very helpful and responsive. Great off-street parking in the back. Beds could be more comfortable.
