Sue & Stew are fantastic … super attentive, thoughtful m, and just plain fun. We loved Little Red … just perfect for us … and had a great time on the island. We’ll be back.
This was our favorite of any place we have been! Nicely renovated, wonderful history, all comforts in place set in trees by ocean, hosts kind and gracious in sharing their space! Very touched by being here, plan to return.
Great place to stay for our family of four. Sue and Stu are excellent hosts. They were there waiting for us when our ferry arrived and assisted with our luggage. Little Red was very comfortable and cozy. The kitchen was well stocked for cooking. Bikes, kayaks, and a car were available for our use. What a great value! I cannot say enough great things about our experience in Little Red. Will come again!
Little Red was clean, comfortable and in the perfect spot for exploring IAH. Sue and Stew go over the top to make your stay enjoyable with use of their car, bicycles and kayaks. Could not have asked for a better place for a relaxing vacation.
Our family thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this delightful former schoolhouse. It was very clean and comfortable, felt roomy even with two kids, and our hosts were incredibly generous and responsive to our every need. It was a “remote” vacation made so easy - and the hiking, kayaking and exploring are out of this world. We highly recommend!!
Turner Cove and Little Red were the perfect home base for seeing the quieter side of Acadia.
Sue and Stew went above and beyond, providing transportation and giving us a tour of the island pointing out highlights along the way. They even provided a "locals" map which added more great hiking trails and spots of interest not shown on the park service map.
Can't wait to go back!
This property checks all the right boxes. Sue and Stew go above and beyond in making everyone feel welcomed and at ease. This little red cabin has everything that you will need and more! Games, bikes, kayaks, water access and a vehicle to use
We look forward to returning as soon as we can! What a special place!

Sue and Stu were amazing hosts in every way and provided for all our needs. Staying on Isle au Haut for three nights was an experience we will never forget. The school house is a charming place and Sue and Stu have thought of everything to make the stay comfortable. Highly recommend.
We took the mail boat out to the Isle au Haut town dock where we were met by Sue and Stew. They brought us up to Little Red which we absolutely loved. There was plenty of room for myself, my wife and two daughters. Just a one minute walk away is the Refuge located right on the ocean where we enjoyed gorgeous sunrises each day. Stew also coordinated picking up fresh lobster from the dock which was incredible. Sue and Stew are incredible hosts and we would definitley stay again!
Our hosts met us at the boat when we arrived. The hosts were great about letting us know about getting around the island and accessing trails, roads, kayaks, bikes and other ways to explore. The cottage is rustic, but supplied with all needed amenities. An experience best for those who enjoy being outside and relaxing in a simpler way of life. We also were able to connect and visit with the few island residents whom we already knew.
I and my daughter could not have asked for a better experience. The place is wonderful with an additional lovely small cabin right by the coast; perfect for reading, writing or just resting. Our hosts were most generous and kind. They met us upon arrival at Isle au Haut harbor half a day earlier to make it more convenient for us, taught my disable daughter to kayak independently, lend us their car so we could explore the island, showed us how to cook lobster properly and more. Cannot wait to come back.
Sue and Stew were fantastic hosts. Very helpful and accommodating. House is adorable and has all the basics for cooking. Hiking was excellent with more trails than you could possibly cover in just a few days. Little buggy so bring lots of spray and just keep moving! General store has just the basics, we planned out our meals and brought little baggies/jars of any spices or ingredients we needed. We plan to go back in the future!
We had an awesome stay at Little Red. Sue and Stew are amazing hosts! They picked us up and dropped us off at the ferry landing, and invited us to join their family celebration for the 4th of July (and a special birthday!). We brought our own bikes to cruise around the island, but they had a car/bikes/kayaks all available for us to use, and the Little Red cabin was perfect! Clean with all the amenities.
Stew and Sue were wonderful hosts. Little Red is a great home base to enjoy all the islands trails from. Access to a car and bikes makes getting to the park on the other side of the island very quick. A special community and island. Thank you
A great experience, Stonington, traveling on the Mail boat to the island, staying with Sue and Stu (great hosts, had everything we needed, very generous, good knowledge of sights and trails on the island, wonderful folks), the hiking was stunning, amazing views, cliffs, rock beaches, & diverse landscapes. Great place to recharge, will return. Thank you
Cannot say enough good things about Sue and Stew! From meeting me at dock upon ferry arrival, showing me around the island and their gorgeous property, having a fire already built in the wood stove to dropping me off at the dock- they are truly the best hosts I’ve experienced. The love they have for the island is apparent and they want you to enjoy it to the fullest! Little Red is comfortable and cozy. It has all the amenities you need minus Wi-Fi but you should be unplugged anyway! Isle au Haut is gorgeous and rugged. Highly recommend staying at Little Red!
We'll add to the five star reviews for this remarkable place! We thoroughly enjoyed our three days at Little Red on Isle Au Haut. The well-kept, comfortable, and historic schoolhouse, the gorgeous location, the ease of outdoor pursuits, the quiet of the island - and the gracious, generous hosts who could not have been more thoughtful - made for a perfect three days. Our sincere thanks to Sue and Stew for creating this unique spot for guests to experience Maine island life. We hope to return!
Sue and Stew we're excellent hosts. There were some surprise amenities, such as the use of a vehicle and a small cabin on the edge of a cliff from which to look out over the Cove. They told us about special unmarked places to visit, which you'd never find on your own, including a fine sandy beach. We've already reserved for next summer.
We throughly enjoyed our time at Turner Cove. Staying on Isle au Haut was a unique opportunity. The property owners could not have been more accommodating. Stepping into the schoolhouse was like stepping back in time. Everything was clean and well maintained. Stew and Sue were very helpful making sure that we had everything we needed to enjoy our stay, providing bikes, kayaks, and transportation to trail heads in ANP. Staying at “Little Red” was a wonderfully unique experience that I highly recommend to anyone who is looking for the opportunity to enjoy the natural beauty of Acadia, far from the crowds, with all the amenities of a relaxing Maine vacation.
We loved our stay on Isle au Haut in Little Red. Although we had visited Maine before, this was our first visit to the island, and it was even more wonderful than we expected. Sue & Stew were gracious, generous, incredibly helpful hosts. We loved spending time with them, including a lobster dinner we won't forget. They went above and beyond to make sure our visit was special. The cottage was cozy and welcoming and just the right size for us. The island was magical. We already want to return.
We LOVE Isla au Haut! Little Red has all you need for a nice, comfy stay on the island. If you are missing anything, don't worry, your hosts, Sue and Stew will take care of you. They are the most accommodating hosts we've ever had through VRBO. I feel like we are family, and would go back every summer if I could. Our favorite thing about Sue and Stew was their enthusiasm over teaching us how to cook and eat lobster - so hospitable and generous. Isle au Haut has a hidden gem in these hosts, and their Little Red is a treasure too!
Owners are incredibly nice people. We will definitely be back.
We had a wonderful time hiking and Bicycling around the island.
The Island is a special place and the owners made it more special. We brought our own provisions and the kitchen had everything we needed even the coffee filters. It is the only VRBO on the Island so it it's available definitely book it. We stayed four nights and wished we could have stayed longer.

About the host
Hosted by Stew & Sue (Turner) Foelix
Stew & Sue (Turner) Foelix will be your hosts. We spend summers at Turner Cove and will personally welcome you when you arrive for your stay at Little Red located at Turner Cove. Members of the extended Turner Family members have been present for ~150 years.
Why they chose this property
Isle au Haut is home to the "less traveled" part of Acadia National Park. It is one of only 14 Islands with a year-round population and still has a one-room schoolhouse! Come and taste Island life. Little Red originally served as the East Side schoolhouse and now is a simple and sweet two room cottage. A short walk on a private trail leads you to expansive eastern views at the Turner Cove private waterfront.
What makes this property unique
For those who love Maine's rugged coast and untamed forests, Isle au Haut has unique appeal. Water, wind and light create interplay of natural beauty where no two days are the same. Leave your car and the world behind when you climb onto the ferry and come out to Isle au Haut.
