Loon Lodge - Golden Lake (Cottage & Bunkie -Sleeps 8 )
Amongst the towering pines and white birch trees, located on the beautiful south shore of Golden Lake Ontario, your lakefront log cottage and expansive private sandy beach awaits. Golden Lake is famous for its soft, golden, sparkling, sandy bottom. Loon Lodge, located on Skelly’s Bay, is the perfect place for families and children to enjoy water activities due to its protective, natural cove and shallow waters. This bright, newly renovated and highly updated, sunny cottage and bunkhouse (aka “the Bunkie”) with front row views of Golden Lake will take your breath away. The high vaulted ceilings and the spacious living areas comfortably accommodate 4 guests in the main cottage and 4 guests in the Bunkie. Do you enjoy the call of the loon? If so, then step out onto your private deck that flanks the entire length of the cottage to enjoy a cup of coffee in the serenity of a quiet morning or the tranquility of a spectacular sunset at twilight. Just outside your door is Golden Lake and the beautiful unspoiled golden sandy beach that lines the entire cove. Be sure to watch for a family of loons, and soaring seagulls as you stroll the beaches edge. You may even be as lucky to spot our elusive mink! This newly updated and well- appointed cottage features a master bedroom with a queen size bed. The 2nd bedroom features a full-size bed. Both bedrooms have flat screen televisions with remote controls and new remote controlled ceiling fans with multiple settings for your comfort. The full-size bathroom with shower is adjacent to both bedrooms. The new furnishings create a log cottage feel and are completed with woodsy accents. Additionally, there is a fully furnished kitchen featuring granite countertops and a wine counter with hand-carved stools. The cottage has a dining area with floor to ceiling windows overlooking the lake and a large living area with a propane fireplace and comfortable furniture. Vacationing with the family? Loon Lodge features a renovated, heated Bunkie (additional weekly rental fee) with a screened in porch. The expansive sandy beach offers plenty of room for children to build sand castles while the adults relax on the beach. There is a fire pit for evening campfires, and ample room to pull up multiple boats. Loon Lodge provides one rowboat with oars and a kayak with paddles for your boating enjoyment. Feel free to bring a boat or two along with you as well! If fishing is your passion, then look no further. Golden Lake is noted for its plentiful bass and sizeable pickerel. Clean and prepare your fresh catch at the fish cleaning station complete with counter and utility sink, located just adjacent to the front entry, in the mudroom. We call it the “bowling alley”, you’ll see why! Whatever your pleasure, we’ve got it covered! Loon Lodge offers the perfect vacation at the lake while being close to all the Ottawa Valley has to offer, just a short distance away.

We had a great stay at Loon Lodge! The property is beautiful. Sandy beach and clear shallow water is perfect for young children. Great views and sunsets. The cottage and bunkie were clean and well stocked. Fishing was good and the fish cleaning station in the mudroom is so handy. Would definitely return for another vacation!
The lodge is well equipped, all we needed to bring with us was food. It has a very nice view of the lake and a wide private beach - great for family with kids or elders. What is also good for kids and elders is the shallow water: 50 meters from shore it still won't go above the waist.
Gorgeous property, great owners. Perfectly clean and stocked with everything you could think of, and more. Large, private beach with crystal clear water, great swimming. Also priced fairly, which is rare these days. Will be back!
Great location, great property. Easy check-in and owner/renter was always available.
Everything you need in the kitchen (there is even a slow cooker). Ample towels and linens etc.
Great location and the cottage has fantastic views of the lake. Would rent again in a heartbeat.

We had a very enjoyable week at Loon Lodge. The property is ideally situated on a nice sandy beach with beautiful sunsets. The cottage is well equipped and nicely set back from the water. Lots of kayaking, cycling, and hiking nearby. I highly recommend this cottage.
Loon Lodge was the perfect spot for a family vacation. From the moment we arrived, the property felt like home and exceeded our expectations. Karen is lovely host and a very responsive to any of our questions throughout the week.

We are so haapy to hear that you had a perfect week at Loon Lodge. Thank you for choosing to stay with us. It is a wonderful place to relax and enjoy time with family and friends. Please enjoy the rest of the summer and come again soon. Best regards, Karen
We had a wonderful stay. The cottage was well equipped and the beach front was perfect. We went kayaking and enjoyed the beautiful sunsets each night. We loved watching all the water fowl and got some amazing photos of them. Our stay was perfect. I'd go back. Loved it there.
I rented the Loon Lodge for myself and three daughters between the ages of 16 and 20. The process was effortless and all response to questions was fast and excellent. The property was clean and well-supplied. I regularly rent cottages and this one is at the top of my list.

Hi, we are thrilled that you enjoyed Loon Lodge. Thank you for choosing to vacation on Golden Lake, and at Loon Lodge. Please come again.
We had a lovely week here. The cottage was well supplied with everything we could possibly need. It was very clean and was exactly as described. The lake was lovely, warm and shallow quite a ways out. Great for kids. We had a loon family visiting every day and not too many motor boats so quite quiet.
To any one looking for a peaceful cottage experience as we were, Loon Lodge on Golden Lake is ideal. There was a cool ambiance of a log cabin with all the modern amenities one could possibly need. The beach is sandy, the water crystal clear. We would definitely return and recommend it to friends. The fire pit seemed a little dangerous. It is so large one must step into the pit to add wood to fire. Although the water was reportedly safe to drink the smell was so off putting we strongly recommended quest bring drinking water.

Hi Susan, I am so happy that you enjoyed your time at Loon Lodge and found it to have all the comforts of home! I really wish you had let me know about the "off-putting" smell of the water when you first noticed it. I would have called our repair technician out immediately! We have a water softner and it just need needed to be serviced. As soon as I received your review, I called for service and the water softening system has been serviced and is back to normal.
Anyway, thank you so much for choosing Loon Lodge for your vacation. We hope to see you again next summer.
My husband and I stayed for two weeks (Aug 30 thru Sep 14/ 25. The cottage was “extremely”clean. Every type of kitchen aid and appliance alongwith many utensils were supplied. Also lots of beach towels and bath towels. Lots of seating areas and beach toys. The water is very, very clear with NO WEEDS…very shallow for a long way out for about 200 yards. We used the kayak and the 12ft aluminum boat (brought a little electric motor with us)….Karen was a wonderful host and communication with her was great. Lovely clean life jackets and a beautiful (had to use this word lol) clean and large fish cleaning area attached to the main cottage. So no need to be outside with the “bugs” while cleaning. Great place for a quiet time or with family…..I could “go on and on” but would need another two pages. Thank you Karen and hopefully we will be back again…Ann & Robert Cohoe…. PS….no pizza cutter found on the premises….LOL
This completely refurbished and tastefully-appointed home has retained all of the charm of its origins on Golden Lake. The two-bedroom main cottage and four-bed bunkie made it possible for our families to gather around the large dining table for family meals with a spectacular view and the sound of waves lapping the shoreline. The outdoor touches were also complete, with deck and lounge chairs, a wide deck for outdoor dining, and watercraft for paddling. This cottage covers it all with many added touches such as water games, sand toys, noodles, games and puzzles. It is obvious that this home is beloved by its personable hosts, and we felt lucky to share in the magic of Loon Lodge. (Yep…we saw the loons each day!)
Beautiful property that is well maintained. The hosts are super responsive to all inquiries and a local property manager ensured that the place was up to standards.
The kitchen has everything you need to make meals and the barbecue is really nice.
There is a nice deck to sit on and enjoy the nature. Loons visited almost every day.
We chose to wear water shoes as there are a few fresh water mussels in the water but there are not many so you could avoid them.
The water is shallow with a really nice sandy bottom.
There are ceiling fans throughout the cottage and they do a good job at circulating the air (although it wasn't super hot while we were there).
The only con is that the second bedroom is small - we just left our suitcases in the master bedroom.
We can't wait to return!! Thanks so much!

Thank you so much for taking time to review Loon Lodge. We are so happy that you had a nice vacation. The Loon families that swim around the bay everyday are amazing, and there is nothing better than sitting on the expansive deck and listening to their calls. Thanks so much again, we look forward to your return to Loon Lodge soon. Best regards, Karen
This cottage/bunkie has everything a family or couple is looking for from spacious interior to gorgeous beach. Everything is like new. Kitchen was super and dining table was big enough to fit everyone. Tv’s and fans in all the bedrooms and living room were a nice touch. Beds are comfortable. Bathroom is everything you need. Our favourite thing at the cottage was the expansive golden beach! You could walk for awhile before it gets to deep which was amazing for the children. Hands down best beach I’ve seen at a cottage in Ontario!! If you’re looking for an updated cottage on an amazing beach look no further. Also, the lake is great for fishing! The only thing that could be added to this place is wifi/internet mainly for the children/teens. We stayed at Loon Lodge the first week of July and expected to get swarmed by mosquitos but to our surprise there was barely any. Even at night it didn’t get bad which was surprising since we’ve stayed in the Muskoka and Haliburton area in July and at times it was unbearable. We hope to come back next year..

We are thrilled that you enjoyed your vacation and are thankful to have one of the most beautiful beaches on the lake! We thank you for being out first guests at the newly acquired Loon Lodge and look forward to your return.
We stayed as a family of four with two young children at the end of summer. The property is beautiful and the water very shallow quite a ways out so it was perfect for our 1.5 and 2.5 year olds. They had a blast playing in the water, riding around in the kayak and playing with some beach toys provided.
The cottage got both very hot and cold while we were there with the fluctuating temps that week. The fans in every room work wonders and there is heating if needed. Adequate and comfortable linens provided. Some toiletries if needed. Really nice to have a washer and dryer on site if you need to wash and dry towels or clothing you brought up. All the comforts of home including a dishwasher, coffee machine etc. TVs also in every room which was convenient.
As others have mentioned, it seemed as though there were not a lot of mosquitoes but the ones that got us were the itchiest we have ever experienced. Property was secluded / private enough though you could see some neighbouring cottages/guests a ways away.
Hosts were prompt with responses to any correspondence. I think the biggest take away was that we had a very comfortable stay as a family of four with small children.
We had a lovely last week of summer. Playing in the water, having bonfires on the beach and chilling in the cottage. Loon lodge was a spectacular place to spend our last days of summer!
The Lake is great for kayaking. There is a nice sandy beach and the water remains shallow for a long distance out. The property is located about one mile down a narrow unpaved road so be careful in a low clearance car.
Cottage is equipped with everything you need for cottage fun - including beach toys for kids. Beautiful sandy beach kid friendly. Cottage was clean and comfortable. Only thing we would have liked was a TV in the bunkie :-) absolutely lovely property. The loons indeed visited every day.
Great property. Lots of nice spots to sit and enjoy the view. Well equipped property. The Toronto puzzle very challenging! But completed it

Hi, we are so happy that you enjoyed the cottage and Golden Lake. Thank you for choosing Loon Lodge for your summer vacation, please come again soon!
The cottage on Golden Lake was exactly as advertised, attractive, very comfortable, bright inside with a well equipped kitchen, overall just great. We enjoyed the sandy beach, the tandem kayak and a couple of campfires.
Beautiful lakefront property, fully stocked kitchen. My partner and I spent a week in September and had a wonderful time. Ten minutes away from a grocery store, 20 minutes from a golf course. Would definitely return!

About the host
Hosted by Karen & Sue
Owners Karen and Sue (sisters) live in Colorado and NY respectively. Our family owns the cabin next door and have been enjoying Golden Lake for 50 years! We grew up playing on the shores of Skelly's Bay every summer since we were born. We are sure you will love it as much as we do.
What makes this property unique
Loon Lodge is very unique in that is has one of the most expansive, and largest sandy beaches on the lake. And, in addition to the main cottage, there is a large, comfortable bunkie just adjacent to the cottage that sleeps 4! Perfect for the kids.
