The sea views from the cottage are amazing (including watching the seals) - Hope Cove is a charming coastal village. We're glad we went out of holiday season though as traffic and the tiny roads must be a struggle in season. Great to have our own parking outside Starboard. The village seems to be largely second homes/holiday cottages but its picturesque. We recommend 'The Cove' for food, coffee etc.
The cottage has character and was spacious for us 2 - high ceilings/large mirrors helped that. The kitchen is well equipped. The superking bed and quilt were very comfortable and there was plenty of hot water. The central heating worked well although the property was cold when we arrived due to the timer having the incorrect time and the thermostat being set very low. As others have mentioned, the freezer compartment in (one of) the fridge(s) is small and its door wasn't attached very well (as reported to the owner on arrival). The TV is small for the size of room but not much of an issue as we had plenty of books. Wifi was 1.7Mb at best, often less. The 2 sofas have seen much better days (one had a split in the fabric near a previous repair) and they were rather uncomfortable. We appreciate this is a family holiday home and the owners may not be concerned about the sofas, however for the purposes of paying guests they weren't adequate. Just for reference the main door is at the rear of Starboard, and to use the oven, set the clock time.
Overall, the views overcome any niggles
This is a perfect get away location. Breathtaking views, two pubs nearby and very comfortable. WiFi was intermittent at times but with the views and seals keeping us entertained it wasn’t a big problem. We did let the owners know about it not being clean and they were going to rectify this with the company they used. 100% would stay again it’s idilic.
2nd visit to Starboard and it works really well for us. Weather was a bit mixed, but it’s so close to the beach, restaurants and post office it’s no problem to make the most of sunny spells. Even on a full of wet day, the views are captivating. Comfortable beds, good open plan living space, fully equipped kitchen with a Nespresso coffee maker (don’t forget your pods) . Easy load in and out, car parking space backs up to the terrace, close to the sliding doors of the lounge. Very easy place to enjoy a relaxing break
Overall we really enjoyed our stay. The view is breathtaking and if you catch a sunset even more so. The accommodation is fine if a little worn around the edges but no big deal. The only things to point out to potential guests is that the WiFi is very slow even by Hope Cove standards. Not sure if there was an issue with it but something to be aware of. In addition there is no freezer just a small ice box at the top of one of the fridges. Worth bearing in mind if you do an online shopping order with frozen items.
A handbook for the property would also be useful. After a few days we worked out that we could Bluetooth our phones to the sound system ( via trial and error) so could enjoy some music.
We would definitely stay here again.
We enjoyed our stay in the Starboard accommodation overlooking Hope Cove very much indeed. It felt more spacious than advertised, was clean and well equipped with one or two minor exceptions.
Despite the stormy weather, we enjoyed the expansive views over sea and managed daily walks to the beaches below. The house was well heated and the beds comfortable - a King size double in one room and 3/4 single beds in the other. The two bathrooms were very good and hot water was plentiful. We can highly recommend this property, there is no better location in Hope Cove.
Really spacious house all on one level. 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, which was great. Master bedroom has very comfortable superking bed, 4 singles in bedroom 2. Great Kitchen/dining/living room with big sofas, farmhouse table, plenty of fridge space etc. All the rooms (apart from bathrooms) faced the sea, with views of Inner and Outer Hope Cove, Bigbury Bay across to Burgh Island, and as far as Plymouth on a clear day, with Eddystome lighthouse visible at night. Big south-west facing terrace with table and chairs, sliding doors into the lounge, so really easy to get outside when the sun appeared. Living area was just as good on the wet days, watching the waves roll in and the family of seals visiting the harbour. Short walk (3 minutes) to all beaches, Cove bar/restaurant (good food) and Hope & Anchor pub (which we didn't try this time) . Allocated car space was very close to front door and patio door, so really easy to get in and out. We have booked again for 2024 , we've been coming to Hope Cove for many years, this was one of the best places to enjoy the amazing views. Owner was very friendly, responsive and helpful with my questions. Thank you for sharing your unique house.
Very good two bedroom cottage/ bungalow. Good kitchen-dining- living area. Two shower rooms. Low key style - relaxing - seaside. God patio. Parking. Access via narrow lane. Short walk to pub & restaurants. Great place.
I know the area really well. Staying in the colonial house was always something I wanted to do.
The rental was, as others have said is best described as comfortable. Very well stocked with everything one could want. No towels but we knew that so took our own. All the rooms are very spacious. Only a small freezer which might be useful to know. 2 fridges though. Very warm. The heating was set to come on and made it very comfortable.
I don’t know if the owners know but we felt the cleaning was not up to scratch, there were loads of cobwebs in the bathroom, rugs obviously not hoovered under, the shower curtain needs changing as very stained. There is also a leak coming from somewhere in the heating cupboard.
We watched seals in the bay every morning. The neighbours next door were very helpful. When we arrived we could not open the patio doors which I communicated to the owner who arranged a locksmith to come out promptly which was great.
There is no facility for recycling which surprised us so we carried it around in the back of our car for days hoping to find somewhere to no avail !! Finally in the last morning I spotted the recycling van in the lane who were happy to take it !! They explained obviously incurs an extra cost. Anyway sorted.

Beautiful views
There is no doubt this is a gorgeous Position. With uninterrupted views of the beach and coast line. The property it self is very nice and comfortable. The settee has seen better days but is comfortable with all the cushions.
However, there are a few thing that stop it from being an excellent property to be in.
The mugs are all chipped and not very nice. Several of the light don’t work. The main shower head is falling off and has obviously tried to be mended. My husband and I slept in the double bed . My husband said his side was very comfortable where as I had a bad back from my side . (Two singles linked together) .on stripping the bed on our last day it appeared my husband had a new bed whilst mine was old and stained.
There was no book to explain the ins and outs of the property . No welcome pack. A few other niggles Not urgent ones.
So if a few of these issues were put right it would dramatically change any review. Nevertheless had a lovely week , the views are amazing .
This a great sea side Cottage right in Hope Cove. Two good bedrooms. Big lounge. Nice kitchen. Great dining area with superb sea view. Great sunsets. Great patio. Parking. Two shower rooms. Close to restaurants and pub.
This place is magical. It is our second time staying here in 4 months. Love the location with stunning views. Property is warm and welcoming - a home away from home. The property owners are approachable and incredibly helpful.
Excellent location with superb views.
Great living room with dining area and good kitchen. Great views from dining area.
Very short walk to pub, bar and restaurant. Also some hotel restaurants.
Two bedrooms. One double and one with multiple beds.
Plenty of space.
Two small local beaches.
Excellent walks along the coast.
Highly recommended!!
Spacious cottage with large rooms and great sea views. Decent lounge and kitchen diner.
Two bedrooms with one king size bed and four singles. Looks good force family.
Short walk to sea. Parking for 2 cars.
One shower room. One bath room. Electric central heating.
Good stuff:
We wanted a property on one level that would suit my elderly mother who walks with a frame. Although not listed as such, this was absolutely ideal. We had two generous bedrooms (ours King, hers with choice of 4 singles), two bathrooms (ours with shower over bath, hers with walk in shower), a huge kitchen/diner/lounge and a veranda with stunning views over Hope Cove and across as far as Burgh Island. All decorated in simple blue, green, white and natural tones. The property was in good order, comfortable and well equipped. We would recommend it and consider staying again.
Minor issues:
We parked our one small car in the designated space on the beach side of the property. It was a bit of a squeeze due to other renters having larger vehicles. Apparently parking is also available in another spot further back and unmarked but it was seldom available, again due to other renters.
Building work is going on to extend The Cottage Hotel. Noise wasn't too much of an issue but it was a shame to have views impeded.
It would have been nice to have a welcome folder with something more than a few leaflets and/or a visitor book with tips.
We had a great holiday here. The views were stunning and the house was cosy. Plenty of lovely walks & adventures to be had on the beaches.

Very relaxing, gorgeous position and views. Decor in the house is a bit tired and bathrooms very small but lovely open kitchen / Dinining with strunning aspect. Not luxury for the price but very enjoyable stay and the locals are lovely.
