Family of 5 stayed and visited La Jolla family who live very close by. We truly enjoyed watching the hawks soar by and walking along La Jolla farms rd. Very convenient location only 20min to SAN airport with no traffic. Would stay again.
The deck is amazing. Everything is set up for groups to enjoy time together. We cooked meals in the kitchen and hung out in the living room and on the amazing deck. The best time is early morning with a cup of coffee listen to the birds and sea lions. Wow! Beds are very comfortable. Bathrooms are somewhat dated but everything works.
Had to call maintenance for living room screen. It was stuck. Had to relight pilot light. TV stopped at some point. We never turned it on/off. Few more amenities would be nice; Kleenex etc.

The view and the neighborhood are perfect.. everything else.. not so much
We stayed at this property over the Memorial Day weekend. I want to start with the positives first. The house is located in a beautiful quiet neighborhood, with lovely views of the ocean and close to many of the surrounding attractions in La Jolla and San Diego. The communication with the property management company was also excellent and they are very responsive. Now for the negatives, the house is old and in desperate need of upgrades. The showers had hot water on and off, not consistent, the towels were stained and old, the doors have old knobs that don’t lock or click into place and it just needs a lot of TLC as it’s run down.We also saw and in fact caught mice in the house, there was mice poop all over the kitchen and just overall felt unhygienic and dirty. The management sent people out immediately to set traps and remove the mice from the house, but just the overall experience of this was not so great and especially for the price of this home, it’s not worth it.

improvements needed
Issues we had with property
wrong lockbox code emailed to us(resolved first day)
bathroom sink not draining(fixed next day)
grill would not consistently start for us( gave us new propane tank)
screen doors do not stay on tracks making it very difficuot to use them
fly problem in house due to multiple holes in window screens
dryer lint trap caused shredding of clothing when used
kitchen sink backed up last day we were there(not resolved until after we left)
very poor water pressure in north end bathroom shower
This owner should not advertise the home being able to accomodate many guests untill plumbing and window/door issues are resolved. We recd a small refund
but major maintenance is needed before future rental in our opinion. Beautiful location.
This place was perfect--It's right next to UCSD and it has amazing ocean views from its new deck. We stayed in this unit two years in a row now and we love it. I hope we will be able to come back and stay in this unit next year.
Just the refuge we were looking for. Loved the deck and the views and the one story layout. We will be back!

Beware, No Deck!
Similar to the previous reviewer, the main reason we rented this property was for the deck overlooking the ocean that is clearly shown in the pictures. We rented the property in November and stayed there in February. The description did not state that the deck is no longer there. While this house has an amazing view, it can only be enjoyed from the inside. There is no deck or outdoor seating area of any kind overlooking the ocean. We did not come to California to sit inside. I have been using VRBO for several years and this is the first time I have felt deceived. We became aware that there was no deck a week before our trip by reading the previous negative review. At that point it was of course too late to change our plans or rent another house. When we called to ask if the deck was there or had been rebuilt, we were given a discount but only because we called to complain. I’m just glad we found out before we walked into our rental so that we had time to adjust to the disappointment. That deck and the view is the only thing that makes this house special. The master bedroom plumbing is very bad. The water pressure was so low I had a hard time rinsing the shampoo out of my hair and the toilet barely flushed. Additionally, the fireplace does not work. We had a couple cool nights while we were there, and a fire would have been nice.
We would not be writing this negative review if we had been informed when we rented (or shortly thereafter) that the deck was not there. We would have liked the chance to look for another rental with an outdoor deck. This is always the number one thing we look for in a vacation rental. The living room is very nice, the beds were very clean and comfortable, and the kitchen had everything we needed.

FALSE ADVERTISING!!
We rented this property because of the photos of a beautiful deck overlooking the green valley and ocean views. We were extremely shocked when we arrived to find the beautiful deck did not exist!!!! There's a two foot drop from the back sliding door to the dirt where the deck was. It's definitely a safety hazard! With nails sticking out of the sides of the house and the drop off to the green valley with no railing. Dangerous if we had children with us. This was our wedding weekend and I ended up spending several hours on the phone with La Jolla Vacation Rentals and VRBO and all I got was the run around. We would never have rented this place knowing there wasn't a deck. We wanted to be able to sit outside and enjoy the views. It's false advertising with the beautiful photos they have in their listing showing a deck with a built-in bench and table and chairs. The showers/tubs are very old. The master shower water was just a drizzle. There are no mirrors in the house except in the bathrooms. They only provide very few, small packets of coffee and sugar, like a hotel. And there are only two TV's in the house, no cable. I do not recommend this property!
Beautiful views of Sumner canyon and the ocean. Very peaceful. Quick walk to UCSD, 15 minute walk to beaches down La Jolla Shores or Black's Beach road off La Jolla Farms. The house was built in the 1950s as part of the historic Scripps Estates Association, which was created by such UCSD luminaries as Roger Revelle and Walter Monk. You can see the house that Jonas Salk owned across the canyon.
The only negative is that you are not allowed to walk in the canyon. This should be explicitly called out in the listing, instead of it saying "private canyon". I've hiked that canyon for twenty years when visiting the Monk's house while Walter was still alive. It's the reason that I spent the extra money to rent this house. But when we went to sit on the bench at Martini Point in the canyon, we got a call from La Jolla Vacation Rentals threatening a $1,000 fine. Grrr.
Nice deck and location. Plenty of places to walk and enjoy the outdoors and UCSD campus (nobody's there!). Excellent spot at the end of a cul-de-sac. Bathrooms are old but functional. Good property manager. Kitchen well-appointed.
A great house in a great location. Wonderful views from the deck, dining room, living area and all the bedrooms. The house does not have AC and so can get hot in early afternoon when the sun comes round but there are fans and once the sun drops the temps drop. Overall a great rental.
This property was perfect for our group - plenty of bedrooms and space to spread out, each room with amazing view of the ocean. The back patio is fantastic for catching the sunrise. House management was very prompt and communicative. We had a great time!
It was a good house. It was is in a great location with beautiful views. House was well equipped and very comfortable. Would definitely stay there again.
