About this property
Dog-Trot Home on secluded acreage with pool and game room.
The home is¬ built in the style of the old Texas German settlers’ “dog-trot” log cabins and barns, with a central breezeway. Two downstairs bedrooms (sleeping 4 total), each have a bathroom. One large bunk room upstairs (sleeping 6) also has a 3-piece bathroom. The kitchen has all cooking and serving ware needed. Local Texas wine and a welcome basket is included for those who book 3 nights or more.
Game room across breezeway with billiards, game table, board games, poker set and shuffleboard. Outside activities include basketball, ping pong, corn-hole and swimming. Fire Pit with cooking grill and gas grill included. Family living at its best!
Home sits 1/4 mile off a one-lane, quiet county road good for cycling, running, or just leisurely strolls. Round swimming pool that looks like a livestock tank, along with an old cabin rebuilt as a pool house, and a working windmill and water feature, all come together to add to the charm of the property.
Situated on secluded acreage, yet only 30 minutes to northern edge of San Antonio, this home provides privacy, backing up to a 3000-acre ranch and no neighbors around. Sit on the back porch facing the ranch with your coffee in the morning or wine in the evening and enjoy the solitude broken only by the grazing cows. Sit by the pool house in the evening and watch the bats (in season) feed on the moths and sweep down to drink from the pool!
Entire house is supplied by filtered and purified rainwater. If you have never bathed or washed your hair in rainwater, you will see softer skin and hair your first day! If you would like to know more about rainwater catchment, we would be glad to give you a tour of our process and equipment.
This ranch supports a cow/calf operation. We can produce natural grass-fed beef on this rather small plot using a technique called Intensive Grazing. We breed British Whites and never have to use antibiotics and rarely must supplement their feed. If you would like to know more about Intensive Grazing and how we have improved our grasslands, we would be glad to show you our process.
Owners live on ranch in main house. It was built in the German vernacular architectural style, meaning local traditions and customs were used in its design and construction. A quick tour of the house can be made available.
Please Note: Our two Catahoula ranch dogs roam the 40 acres around the house freely and are great with people.
Local attractions within 30-minute drive include Cascade Caverns, 10 wineries, 6 breweries (Rough Diamond less than 5 min), and 3 distilleries. The Canoe Livery to swim or rent a kayak/canoe/tube on the Guadalupe River is only 8 min away. Drive some of the most scenic farm-to-market roads in Texas to New Braunfels (30 min), Luckenbach (45 min) and Fredericksburg (1hr). Tour the LBJ National Historical Park, only 30 minutes away, where the original 1884 barn we copied as our own Guest Haus exists. Canyon Lake is 20 minutes away and there is room at the guest house to park your boat.

Property is amazing - beautiful mix of history and modern amenities. We enjoyed the game room, pool, watching the pollinators, bats, and scenery. Easy to find, easy drive to San Antonio and New Braunfels/Gruene. Clean, well appointed.
This property is probably one of our favorite places we have ever stayed. Beautiful location, great proximity to the city, such a fun home to stay in. The hosts were incredibly helpful in answering all of our questions and communicated clearly the check in and out process. If we ever come back to San Antonio we will absolutely be staying here!
A great place to stay with the kids. Plenty of parks and activities within 20 miles.

Thanks for nice review! We enjoy making this a family retreat along with an adult getaway. The Hill Country is where our family used to come for out-door activities when we lived in Houston!
Property is tucked away and definitely makes you feel like you're out of the city. Very quaint and rustic with lots of fun activities to do on the property.
The house was very clean and the pool. Plenty of pool towels and other towels.
Would definitely stay again. So glad we found this place. The flowers and nature beautiful. Great communication with the owner David. Thank you for the awesome stay!!!
Our family enjoyed getting away for our spring break. We loved everything about this place. Our children took a dip is pool and loved exploring the property. David was very accommodating and lent us some flour when we forgot it for our breakfast. The gameroom was well stocked with board games and books.
I just can’t put into words how private and peaceful Oden Ranch is. If you love the TX Hill Country, don’t miss this spot. The property, from top to bottom, is immaculate. The hosts are wonderful. It’s a perfect distance from both Austin and San Antonio for day trips. You feel so secluded but are only 20-30 minutes from food and entertainment. 10/10 recommend and we can’t wait to go back!

Thanks for your kind words! Being fellow short term rental operators, you know what it takes to make and keep a place nice. Look forward to your next visit, next time to our restored 1846 log cabin!
Magnificent country retreat with great access to both San Antonio/Seaworld (1hr) and New Braunfels/Family (40 min). The property was beautifully manicured inside and out. The pool was our 4 year old's favorite and the cow dog and goats were enjoyed by our 6 year old. The kids vacation with us every summer and seemed to enjoy this property the most completed with tree swing, hammock, and plenty of places to play hide & seek.
The pictures do not do Dog Trot justice. The property is gorgeous and David and Athena are the perfect hosts. We did not want to leave and go back to reality. We are already planning our next trip. Thank you both for sharing your little slice of heaven with us all.

You guys were so easy and fun to host! I hope you come back soon.
Good communication, easy check in/out, beautiful ranch, 3 cows and best dog, Katy and awesome cat. The landscaping and decorations are very well thought out and amazing! Game room has everything you need for entertainment. Within 15-30 mins from everything for day trips. Brought home a rock for our rock gardens to remember Oden Ranch! Added another year of great memories and fun times. Thank you David & Athena!
We couldn’t have loved our stay more. Comfortable house in beautiful surroundings that is still close enough to enjoy excursions around town.
The owners made us feel so welcome from the start and the house had everything we needed and more. The pool is amazing and was bigger in person that we thought it seemed online. The game room was a hit with all 4 of our children and us too. We loved feeding the goats and cows and touring the property. The kitchen was great to cook in and had all the essentials. Everything about our stay was wonderful! True Texas treasure

This place was quiet and close enough to town but far enough off the roads to relax and unwind. Nature at its best right at your fingertips. The moment we arrive the butterfly convention commenced. The wild flowers brought them in droves. Come visit and if you do use the “rain” water showers and thank me later! It’s amazing on your hair. Family friendly for all ages & the game room was perfect for all of us. Will definitely be back!
This was such a wonderful place for our family vacation. The location is so peaceful and the ranch was just perfect for quiet time spent with family. David was so kind and explained how the ranch operates, gave us a tour, and responded quickly to our questions. We enjoyed exploring the property, playing with the goats, swimming in the pool, playing basketball and the many other games available in the game room. This will certainly be one of our favorite trips! The house was so unique and had everything we needed. And, we LOVED Katy, the cattle dog. She greeted us each morning and kept us company each day. I can't recommend this property enough!
Magnificent and beautiful countryside, excellent accommodations, fantastic hosts.
Magnificent and beautiful countryside, fantastic hosts. David & sweet Katy the dog welcomed us on arrival, and shared an overview of all the property's wonderful offerings. Our surroundings were just as beautiful and accommodations just as comfortable as the photos and description share. David was even so kind as to allow us to visit another cabin on the property (previous guests had completed their stay), which was just as impressive. We enjoyed visiting with the cows and goats elsewhere on the property during our adventures walking around. We also greatly enjoyed the game room's offerings, the ping pong table, and basketball court. The pool also offers a welcome retreat. We look forward to another opportunity to visit and stay at this location again!
Very rarely have I been able to get my children, spouses, and grandchildren together in one room since they left the nest. Although my husband and I live near the area, we thought it would be amazing to bring the remainder of the family into this"resort" so they could enjoy their siblings. They all had a spectacular time using the game room, ping pong table, very comfy bedrooms, privacy, large kitchen and BBQ pit, and beautiful outside areas to take family photos. David was very accommodating and Katie, the pup, kept us all smiling. We will certainly book again when our schedules become ideal again.
This property was everything it said it was and more. We had a fantastic time in the game room playing pool and we enjoyed exploring around the property. The swimming pool was so nice and bigger than it looked in the pictures. We looked forward to Katy greeting us and David was a fantastic host. We did not get to meet Athena but we definitely plan to be back and stay here again. You will not be disappointed. We stayed in the master bedroom with the huge shower and the bedroom walked out to the back patio where we would sit in the morning to have a cup of coffee and take in the beautiful landscape. Our friends stayed in the other bedroom with the king size bed and they had a very nice bathroom with a soaking tub. We even got to go see the goats and cows. What a peaceful place to stay. Thank you so much!!!
First I must say that this place is an amazing and beautiful home and probably the cleanest of any place that we’ve ever stayed. Communication with the owner was simple and if we needed anything he had it taken care of immediately. We were somewhat disappointed when we pulled up and saw that the owner’s residence was within a hundred feet of the house we rented. The pool was not behind the home we rented but behind the owners residence which is awkward at best because you walk behind their home to get to it. This is not stated in the property description. Just some things to note if you’re looking for some privacy.Other than that the place is immaculate and our stay was great.

Thank you Thomas for your kind words about our place and service. We want to make sure you have the most worry free stay you can have and we go out of our way to create a high-class stay.
Concerning the pool privacy, if you walked around the front of the house to get to the pool as was suggested, then there would have been no issues. The pool sits about 150' from the main residence opposite the guest house but not directly behind the main house.
Concerning the setting privacy with the main house, we have no other complaints as it is just my wife and I and we try to stay out of the way of our guests except when asked. I apologize it it was misleading to think you had the place isolated from us.
You had a great group and enjoyed meeting you guys.

We came for a wedding at Park 31. The house was very clean and well stocked. Owner was very helpful and friendly. The cows were great but Katie stole the show.
