Nestled just 4 miles inside the southern entrance of Yosemite National Park is the charming and historic town of Wawona. Located at the base of Chilnualna Falls (the second-highest vertical drop waterfall in Yosemite), and home to the principal trailheads into the southern Yosemite wilderness, Wawona is also the closest town to the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias. Wawona has the feel of a small town but is bustling with activity! Over 160 residents, including Yosemite Park employees, live in Wawona and can be seen gathering at the town's community center, playing a pickup game of basketball at the elementary school, jogging on one of the many picturesque trails, or simply walking their dogs and baby strollers through the winding residential streets. The historic Wawona Swinging Bridge boasts the best natural water slide in the Park! The historic village is filled with docents, stagecoach rides, horseback rides, and barn dances in the summer season and the Wawona Meadow Loop offers year-round riparian meadow wildlife viewing. Wawona was known to the local Native American Miwok in their language as Pallachun (a good place to stay). It is located entirely within Yosemite National Park (it preceded the founding of the park as a national recreation area), and is located on the South fork of the wild and scenic Merced River, on the main highway (State Route 41) from Fresno to Yosemite Valley. Galen Clark, who helped gain preservation legislation for Mariposa Grove and what later became part of Yosemite National Park, occupied the Wawona area in 1855 and established a tourist rest and modest ranch which he later sold and made into a hotel and resort property (the Wawona Hotel). The Wawona post office was established in 1878 and was originally called Clark's Station. The Redwoods In Yosemite has over 120 vacation rental homes and is proud to say that all of them are located in Wawona. All are within walking distance to everything that Wawona has to offer and every one of them is surrounded by the majesty of Yosemite National Park!

The kitchen was well equipt and the layout was great for our group of 6 moms and 6 daughters! The location was just beautiful and we had a great stay. The fire place took us a bit to figure out since it is a wood burning gas fire place. We did see some mice while we were there but it was otherwise clean.
A home-away-from-home, user-friendly. My family enjoyed our stay.

Plenty of space and beds. Comfy and great location. Bring all your food and supplies, very little provided since you are in the mountains.

We wished we could have stayed longer! Lovely house right by the creek overlooking woodland, spacious, clean and very well equipped. We loved the huge deck and bbq, and pool table. The cabin is inside Yosemite park gates, great for easy access to Yosemite valley

The home was plenty spacious for our 6 adults and had all the amenities that we needed. The bunk beds are our only complaint. They squeaked so badly with any movement that some of our group had to sleep in the living room.

Darrell, We thank you for bringing this to our attention. We are sorry to hear that the beds were an annoyance. We will pass this onto our management team for review. If you would like to come back and stay with us again, we would love to help match you with the cabin that will best fit your needs! -The Redwoods In Yosemite Team
The house was so very roomy and comfortable! The back deck was great for hanging out and eating meals. There was a nice short hike close and access to the local general store. It was next to the river which would have been lovely except there was no water due to drought. We would recommend this house to all.

We were a group of 5 friends that stayed for a few days and the accommodations were good in a very pretty setting. House was well outfitted although we found it surprising that there were no basics like cooking spray, olive oil, tea bags, laundry detergent. For cooking you need to plan to buy absolutely everything you need with possibly the exception of salt and pepper.

Anne,
Thank you for your review! We are happy to know that you and your friends had an amazing stay!
We apologize for the lack of these basics, as we do not keep any food type items in the cabins due to the vast array of animals in the park that may be attracted to them. In order to keep our cabins animal free, we keep all food items out of the cabin.
Other then that, we hope that you had everything you needed! We hope that you will come stay with us again very soon!

This place is great. It’s big, great layout for a large group, 3 bathrooms and great kitchen with an island and everything you need to make various meals.
That being said, the two Queen mattresses in the master are horrible and need to be tossed and replaced. They literally concave in the center. My husband chose the floor instead. We mentioned it to housekeeping on day 2 and they said they’d do something but we never heard back.
The entire place is just in need of a detailed walk through. Bathrooms and general areas were all clean for sure, but closets, corners, drawers, shelves all just need a detailed eye and good spring cleaning. Everything was fine, but nothing seemed or smelled freshly cleaned. I hope that makes sense.
The absolute best thing about this accommodation is the location. The deck looks out over the river valley, and we walked to the river to a tiny little beach where the little ones could throw rocks in and float their boat on a string. We honestly probably could have spent every day enjoying the cabin. However, exploring Wawona was also fun, and it was a great launching point for exploring the rest of Yosemite. Everything in the accommodation worked great--good water pressure, newish appliances, air conditioning, etc. and it was a fantastic space for our group of 6 adults and two little ones. If you love a perfectly curated guest experience, this cabin might not be for you. None of the wall clocks were running. Some loose boards made the beautiful deck tough for bare feet. There was a Christmas wreath lying on the shelf under the entry table. There were seven(!) frying pans in the huge kitchen, but we could only find one cookie sheet. And although the kitchen and main living area were very clean, there was a fair amount of dirt in the corners of the bathrooms, and the baseboards needed a good wipe throughout. None of these were deal breakers, and we'd stay again for sure, but there were definitely details that no one was paying attention to--not what I've experienced before in a short-term rental.
We really enjoyed the cabin, tons of cookware, great location by the river. If you want to stay in Yosemite without the crowds of Yosemite Valley this is the perfect spot. 22 miles north of Oakhurst, 22 miles south of Yosemite Valley.
We had a lovely stay in Wawona. The home was beautiful and a short walk from the river. We did a few local hikes and went down into the valley one day.
The home has a great social layout with a great kitchen, deck and bbq. We are excited to come back and already planning our return trip.

We loved this house. The location is amazing. To be able to swim just steps away from the house was awesome. Beautiful granite mountain while you’re swimming. The large spacious layout is great for families. Lots of room to hang out in the living space. Great to have air conditioning. Wrap around deck is amazing. The only thing that I would have to complain about it the mattresses. Do not expect to get a great nights sleep on these beds. But I would still return to this cabin. Wawona is adorable. Loved being inside the park gates. Also loved having a gas station to fill up before the journey into the valley. We couldn’t wait to come home to this cabin after a long hot day hiking.
This property was large and lovely for families. There was so much room for us to enjoy the evenings together after a long day of hiking in Yosemite.
The only suggestion I would have is for the Vrbo post to include check-in instructions to visit the main property management building for keys and instructions before heading to your cabin.
