The house had a great location and its well kept. Lived there open floor plan. The host were also very nice. However, the electricity pricing is a concern. Using the AC was very expensive. We paid for two nights the amount we pay in the us for almost a full month. They should just say that AC is not included. Guest are provided with a limited electric usage, which seem to cover the house electronics. It’s was just a bit shady.

The pictures do no justice. This is a fantastic property. Perfectly located in walking distance to everything. Enough space to spread out. The hospitality of Marvin and others was nothing short of superb. I cannot recommend this home enough. Would definitely stay again.

Properly is in a central location, close to everything, walking distance that is. House is well kept and perfect for family. Everything you would want from your own home. Not to mention the awesome assistance from Marvin and His wife.

Top Stay in SJDS - LOVED IT

This is a must stay!!! One of the best options in San Juan del Sur. Erica was absolutely wonderful! She helped us every step of the way, and she always communicates promptly. The staff at the house was sure to help us, all while keeping the house immaculate. We recommend staying here anytime you have larger groups traveling with you. My family and I had the best time here. We loved that everything was walking distance from the house.

Amazing vacation

Rented this house for a month !! Couldn’t of pick a better place .. location is fantastic walking distance to pretty much everything in town .. beautiful house, tons of room .. super clean .. I would absolutely rent this house again !! Erika is so easy to deal with and answers you question promptly… I think what really made the trip is the grounds keeper ( Marvin and is wife Roberta ) the nicest peoples ever .. always there if you need something so helpful .. Definitely made 2 new friends .. If you are thinking about San Juan del sur and are looking at this property I wouldn’t hesitate!! What a amazing vacation 😁

Perfect!

Thank you, Ericka, for an incredible stay! Your property exceeded our expectations in every way. There was plenty of space for all 12 of us to relax and enjoy. Marvin and Roberta were absolutely exceptional—thanks to their hard work, we never even noticed the water shortage or power outage; everything was seamless. The kitchen was a dream! At any given time, four or five of us were cooking and chatting without ever feeling cramped. The beds were incredibly comfortable, providing restful nights for everyone. Despite being in town, the tranquility of the space was remarkable. We truly had a fantastic experience!

Beach house

The property was beautiful and just like the pics. The only thing missing were the hammocks advertised in the pics and the dryer. We had a great experience staying at this house. My whole family and friends were delighted with all the commodities of the house. The only downside was the hot weather and restriction on the electricity as the room fans weren’t strong enough to cool down the rooms. I understand the energy is costly but we were a little disappointed with not being able to use the rooms AC’s as freely as we wanted.

Hola Zela! Gracias por tus comentarios porque nos llama a interactuar mas con nuestros huéspedes durante su estadia. En relacion a las hamacas, contamos con ellas, y nos encanta que las utilicen. Dado que estamos en la epoca lluviosa, explicamos a su esposo que las mismas no estaban colocadas pero si estaban a su disposicion, para ser intaladas en el lugar de su preferencia cuando el tiempo lo permitiera. Como regla general, recomendamos a nuestros huespedes hacer un uso racional de los aires acondicionados dado el precio de la energia en nuestro pais ya que incluimos en la renta 30kws/dia pero el consumo adicional es asumido por los huespedes. No existe restriccion alguna sobre el uso de los aires acondicionados y nuestros huespedes estan en la libertad de usarlos todo el tiempo que lo requieran y deseen. El agua caliente en 4 cuartos se genera con gas. El de los dos cuartos ubicados abajo se genera con electricidad por razones tecnicas, pero igualmente pueden ser usados sin restriccion. Voy a revisar nuevamente las instrucciones de bienvenida para ser mas explicita en estos temas. Nuevamente gracias por sus comentarios porque nos permiten mejorar!

Lovely stay at beautiful property

This is a really lovely interesting place to stay. It was great to look at all of the family history and artefacts throughout. The villa is better than the pictures on the website show. It really is a great place to stay and less than 5 minutes walk to the beach and all of the interesting bars and restaurants. There was a beautiful breeze that went through the villa and meant that we hardly touched the air con and even with 8 of us we stayed within the electricity allowance. The location was good although the property was a bit overlooked. Also just note that the trees gave a lot of shade which was great for the people that wanted it but did limit the sun bathing at times for others. Marvin and Roberta were a dream. So helpful and such lovely people. They really couldn't do enough for us. We really enjoyed our stay here and would encourage anyone to book it.

Most beautiful house I’ve ever been in and best vacation ever.

Ericka was proactive and helpful with all aspects of the trip. Caretakers Marvin and his wife (apologize for forgetting her name) acted as groundskeeper, housekeeper and concierge. Cooking is also offered. We were awe struck by this beautiful, unique and historical house built in in 1961 in the Frank Lloyd Wright style. It’s a work of art. The house is filled with photos and momentous from the Holmann family dating back to its American patriarch, Charles Holmann, who served as SJDS US Consul during its heyday when Cornelius Vanderbilt ran steamships from NewYork to San Francisco through Nicaragua. Google it. Make reservations early. We made ours six months ahead and we’re glad we did. The location is perfect two blocks from anywhere you want to go. This was our first priory because houses with stunning views on the hill mean long treks up and down those hills or taxis. Pro tip. It’s Africa hot in early October. Tarzan would say “man it’s hot. Despite that it’s totally comfortable with fans and a pool.

I am the sixth of seven brothers and sisters, born and raised in this house. My baptism was celebrated here, the first years of school and I even got married here. I have awesome memories of the times I shared with my parents, brothers and sisters, and other family members and friends!

Many a time have I walked San Juan del Sur’s streets and beaches watching a magnificent sunset, and although I have been to other places, San Juan del Sur is my favorite place. I hope you enjoy this Port and house as much as I do.

Why they chose this property

La Mar del Sur is a charming and spacious house in San Juan del Sur ideal for families or groups of friends.
The house was designed by the renowned Nicaraguan Architect Eduardo Chamorro inspired in the style of the famous architect Frank Lloyd Wright.
Built in the 1960’s and recently renovated, it is built on a hill with different levels that highlight its stone walls, wooden details, and wide spaces full of light containing interesting details of this port and our family.
You can enjoy walking the streets of San Juan del Sur, eat in one of its many restaurants, or visiting local bars, or just enjoy the beautiful sunsets walking on the beach.
If you have a car you will have the opportunity to visit other beaches located in the surrounding area.

What makes this property unique

The location is definitely a point to choose La Mar del Sur. Our house on a hill is full of small garden areas, you can easily step back and forth between outside and inside.
We have permanent and qualified staff in charge of cleaning and washing kitchen utensils. For an additional cost you can request the following:
