My wife and I stayed for six nights at this lovely, historic and very comfortable venue. We are avid hikers, and It is perfectly located to explore all that Cornwall has to offer. The cottage has virtually every facility needed for a fabulous stay.
Fantastic old cottage, super-modern inside. All amenities (washing machine & dish washer etc) and a great garden. About 15-mins walk to the village of Port Issac - best to walk on pavement along the road, rather than overgrown foot-path. Many pubs, fish & chip shop & restaurants!
Great place to stay. Lovely garden to sit out in if sunny and warm. Close to Port Gaverne.
A great place to stay. It has everything you need for a couple. Close to Port Gaverne and Port Issac. The hotel and Pilchards Tapas bar in Port Gaverne serve fabulous food.
As mentioned on the Vrbo website, the upstairs is small and not suitable for the elderly with poor mobility (although we are in our 70's and managed really well) as narrow staircase access, low headroom and a beam across the room as you get into bed.
Would highly recommend the Blacksmith's shop. Richard the owner was really helpful.
Visiting Cornwall and Port Isaac for the first time from Australia, we couldn't have chosen a better property for our week of 'time out'. This gorgeous little cottage was simply perfect for the two of us to relax and unwind and to get a taste for the English countryside. We made great use of the little bar by the window to take in the fabulous view. Unfortunately, unfavourable weather made spending time in the garden a rarity however the cottage was a cozy retreat with all the conveniences of home.
The cottage was easy to find and its location is very convenient being only a short drive to the village car park or an easy twenty minute walk.
Booking our stay at the Blacksmith's Shop was easy and hassle-free thanks to Richard's prompt and thoughtful communications. The welcome gift was an extra special touch! We highly recommend this quaint little cottage to anyone looking for a quiet, cozy retreat in the village of Port Isaac. We will look forward to returning whenever we make it back to Cornwall.

Liked: Cleanliness, check-in, location
Disliked: Communication, listing accuracy
Difficulty finding property due to mis-address
No proper welcome pack - no tea, coffee, sugar, milk which is always expected. No instructions/details regarding the property, manuals, wifi connection, local things to do, not enough lighting in lounge area, very difficult to step over beams to get into bed - if this was mentioned on description of property we would not have gone there to stay,

The property is listed as “self catering”.
The property postcode is provided in the check in information. There are only a handful of properties in the hamlet, & as stated in the check in information, the property is behind the prominent community defibrillator.
Appliance information is available, it is in the right hand kitchen cupboard.
Property information/details are available, they are to the left of the television.
Wifi is available, search for “The Blacksmiths Shop” on your device & log on. It is free wifi & no password is required.
Lighting in the lounge/kitchen area is managed by dimmer switches.
The mezzanine has a low roof & a floor beam running under the bed, but it is easily accessible from the foot end of the bed … please see the photos in the property description.
Should a problem arise, please use the contact details provided when the problem arises, so that it can be swiftly resolved.

Mixed feelings
We loved the downstairs as we had plenty of space. The kitchen is well equipped. The bathroom was lovely. The lounge area is ok but we found the sofa uncomfortable. We had problems with the tv especially during stormy weather. We couldn’t increase the volume of sound. The upstairs was a a nightmare for us. My husband is over 6 foot and couldn’t stand anywhere. We both knocked our heads on the beams and the beam going across the floor halfway along the bed is treacherous. Drawer space is very limited. We are both over 70 and found upstairs a nightmare.

Unfortunately The Blacksmiths Shop was not suitable for these guests.
It clearly states in the property information that the mezzanine is unsuitable for the elderly or disabled & that it has limited headroom. Photos are included to demonstrate this.
Once the problem with the tv was highlighted, the guests received a visit & were shown how to use it.
There are two bedside cabinets, each with three drawers. In addition, there is a large hanging rail with hangers provided.
Excellent property for a couple wanting peace and quiet, the host Richard was so helpful with an early check in and a nice bottle of bubbly, will definitely go back for a longer stay,we did the footpath down to the port sorry I mean mud slide, wellies and hiking stick next visit,my wife totally surprised and full your of the Doc Martin set.5 star rating all round thanks Richard. Back soon cheers Gaz
Our stay at the Blacksmiths Shop, all we could have wished for.
We stayed six nights here, very well presented property, very clean and had all the comforts of home. Situated in a quiet little lane close to Port Isaac which we walked in 15 minutes. Close to lots of other places like Padstow, which we enjoyed. Easy check in and out, Richard a very good host, Prosecco he left for us very much appreciated after a 5 hour drive.
Quaint, unique and comfortable, absolutely loved our stay also Penny the dog had a good time, thank you so much Richard for the tipple found hiding in the fridge enjoyed it in the pleasant lovely garden,
Hopefully will return again ,

A comfy property in a great location for Port Isaac
A very well presented and furnished property. we could walk to Port Isaac in 15 minutes. The Blacksmiths has been well adapted using a mezzanine for sleeping. We had a great time and our dog was very at home as well
Lovely and clean no pressure on arrival or leaving. Could do with a larger heater in winter. Outside tap and little shed to put wet boots and coats in would be a great idea as we like to protect the property. No complaints Richard was great on communication.
Not a far walk from Port isaac and Port gaverne - Coop down the road for basics too. Really enjoyed our short break which happened to be during half term! Lovely of Richard to be flexible with checking in and out, as well as leave a bottle of prosecco as we were celebrating our anniversary.
Beautiful location just short walk from the village of Port Isaac
Beautiful and quirky cottage. Spotlessly clean, ideal for a couple. Great escape to get away from the hustle and bustle of our everyday lives. Lovely surprise tipple on arrival which we enjoyed whilst taking in the fabulous views of the countryside. Highly recommend the local pub in Port Isaac, the food was amazing and the fresh fish you can buy from the village. Highly recommend to all. Thank you Richard
We stayed at the Blacksmiths Cottage for a weekend in early October. It was spotlessly clean & very cute. Not recommended for very tall people though as it has low ceilings on the bedroom mezzanine! Great location just 10min walk from Port Isaac & straight out onto the coast path in weirder direction.
Beautiful cottage, perfect for people + dogs ans only a short walk to Port Isaac.
This is a beautiful little cottage, very well looked after and very clean and modern inside. Perfect for 2 people plus small dogs. Around a 15min walk down to Port Isaac, downhill on the way there so uphill coming back! Beautiful location and garden to the side of the property. We had a fabulous stay.
Quaint bolt hole ideal for exploring North Cornwall
Well equipped and beautifully modernised former Smithy in a pretty location not far from Port Isaac. Ideal for a couple although as stated the bedroom is not suitable for anyone with limited mobility. Large garden to relax in when the sun is shining too!
