Our home is right in the heart of wine country and overlooks the lake from the east side, so the views are amazing and the sunsets are often filled with spectacular colors. Set among summer cottages and homes in a rustic/country-style neighborhood, our property has 70 feet of spacious lake frontage and a 10 foot wide dock. Depending on the weather and day of the week, the atmosphere on this uncongested lake ranges from calm and peaceful to joyful and fun.
Our home is fully furnished and features an Arts & Crafts-style living room. The master bedroom, living room, and especially the dining room (with its eight windows) have broad views of the lake/sunsets. The community areas are large too (living room: 17' x 22', kitchen and dining room: 22' x 22'). Up to six people can sleep comfortably in the three bedrooms with two queen and two twin beds. The kitchen is fully stocked and the house has air conditioning. There is enough parking for two or three vehicles.
Further Description:
Just outside the house is an intimate yard with a gas grill and a patio set that has cushioned seats and an umbrella. On the lakefront, there's a bonfire ring and a picnic table with an umbrella. You can borrow the owner's 4 kayaks, peddle boat, and row boat, as well as use the camp chairs that are kept in the boat shed. There's something for everyone, including swimming, boating, kayaking, long walks along a dirt road through vineyards, fishing, and romantic evenings watching the sunset and drinking local wine.
Amenities:
- full kitchen with microwave, dishwasher, coffee maker, cookware, and eating utensils - We don't supply live TV, but you can access any of your own apps through our Roku. Also, if you get live TV through Hulu or Sling, for example, you can log in to it through our Roku. - high speed, wireless internet - air conditioning - clean linens provided - clothes washer and dryer - 70 feet of lake frontage - 10 foot wide dock - 2 kayaks, 1 peddle boat, 1 row boat - area on lakefront for launching small boats (up to 14 feet long) - clear, broad views of the lake/sunsets from the yard and from many rooms of the house - parking for two or three vehicles - three bedrooms with two queen and two twin beds - in the yard is a gas grill and patio set with cushioned seats and an umbrella - on the lake frontage, there's a bonfire ring and a picnic table with an umbrella. You can borrow the owner's two kayaks, peddle boat, and rowboat, and use the life preservers and extra chairs that are kept in the boat shed - access to the lake frontage from the yard is by way of a sturdy staircase or by a short road that goes around the neighborhood (about 1/4 mile to our frontage). The staircase has about 75 steps. The run for the steps is 11 inches, which is nice, and there are three decks with benches, in case anyone needs to rest or wants to see the view. It's also very handy to be able to drive down if you're carrying coolers, towels, etc., or are taking some small kids down all at once. The road is for limited use, especially on crowded weekends, but it is there when needed.
The surrounding area is incredibly dense with wineries overlooking the lake. You can have a great time touring the area and tasting wines. THERE ARE 10 WINERIES AND A BREWERY WITHIN A 10 MINUTE DRIVE, AND ONE WINERY WITHIN WALKING DISTANCE. The property is 15 minutes from Watkins Glen, home of the Watkins Glen International Race Track, Watkins Glen Gorge, and Glen Harbor Marina. It's also surrounded by the Finger Lakes National Forest, with many nice hiking trails. You-pick fruit orchards and honor-system fruit and vegetable stands are available frequently during the summer and fall. Skyland Farm, a fine-craft gallery with items from over 300 artists and a feeding farm, is a must-see. The cuisine in the area is delicious with dining atmospheres ranging from casual to elegant. Two miles across the lake, the Rainbow Cove Restaurant has slips for boats.

Wonderful stay on the lake for my husband and I, our two teenager daughters, and our dogs. It is everything you would want in a lakefront property- well stocked kitchen, great dog friendly yard with lake views, grill, fire pit. Pictures could not possibly do it justice- it so quaint with many beautiful craftsman style features. Lovely place to enjoy the Finger Lakes! Would love to come again.
Beautiful home in a quiet peaceful neighborhood. Location was great for wine tasting and to get to Watkins Glenn state park. Home had everything in it to make it feel like home. Highly recommend!
Very cozy place to stay, nice fire pit outside, quiet; had more than enough space for us to relax/gather together, play games, etc. We would stay here again!
Enjoyed our stay at this lakeside retreat. The cottage is conveniently located near wineries, Mary is an attentive host who aims to accommodate her guests.
Our family enjoyed relaxing here by the lake and hiking to nearby waterfalls. The kitchen was well equipped for making meals and it was fun using the kayaks and pedal boat.
The lakeside cottage was in a great location and easy to find. It was well supplied and very quaint. We enjoyed our short stay. I wish the property had some functioning screen windows as the outside weather was lovely.
This is my third time staying at the Callahan's - first time in the main house though. The house was clean, kitchen well appointed, but the main selling point of this property is the outdoor space, and perfect location. And the beds were extremely comfortable! Likely not my last time here :-)
Cottage was exactly as described on VRBO. Had everything we needed for our week. Loved being able to sit and watch the sunsets, kayaking the beautiful lake and many great locations to hike. We enjoyed seeing all the beautiful water falls. Finger Lakes is a beautiful area to visit. Looking forward to another visit soon.

Gorgeous Area
Beautiful property with everything you possibly need in the house. Very comfy beds and beautiful fire pit. We did find 3 dirty pans stuck in the cabinets but owner may have been unaware
Really nice location.. well maintained. Private, but not secluded. Clear directions, defined rules, no guessing. It was exactly as advertised and consistent with ratings and reviews that we researched in advance of our stay! Great experience and wonderful memories!
This cottage was very beautiful, very beautifully decorated large spacious however, it did not have a covered porch or deck, and the lake access was down a very long set of steps.
Mike and Mary are amazing hosts and graciously share this beautiful lake property and welcome your dog too! Very clear directions and check-in process. Kitchen is well stocked and there is a large table to seat many guests. The house is beautiful, clean and well maintained. The dock and lake frontage are your own piece of paradise for a week - amazing! We also have access to their kayaks. Fishing is fun too! The yard is fenced in so your dog can be off leash w/o worry. Our family has been coming here for 3 years and love this location. Parking is easy and right next to the house. Direct access to the lake by the stairs. If you have anyone with mobility issues, there is an access road you can drive down to drop people off. This is such a great location, close to wineries, convenience stores but also away from everything if you just want to be at the lake all week. Mike and Mary are easy to contact if you have any questions. Truly a beautiful property and location. Thank you for all of our Summer memories on Seneca Lake!
This place is truly a hidden gem and I feel so incredibly lucky to have stayed here. Mary made the check-in process so easy and clear and provided instructions to the house as it is down a quiet stone road. Tip: factor in 5-8 minutes to turn off the main road to the road that the house is on as the speed limit will add some time to your route. The ride is a beautiful view of vineyards and quaint cottages. The house has everything we needed to have a lovely outside dinner (thank you for letting us use the Weber!). We sat by the fire one night and enjoyed the absolute peacefulness of this place. We took our morning coffee down the steps to the dock and took in the lake and then spent the rest of the afternoon kayaking, swimming, lounging, and creating life-long memories. We went to the Stonecat Cafe for dinner one night and it was so fabulous. One of my friends is a vegan, however us other 4 are not; regardless the food was awesome and we all enjoyed. Great vibes, as well. Perfect recommendation from the pre-check in book! This spot is about a 20 minute drive to Watkin's Glen, which we explored one morning - also a beautiful drive. Mary - thank you for providing your place to gather, laugh, relax, and connect with friends. We will never forget our stay!
We stayed here about 11 years ago, but had unfortunate, emergency family circumstances that led us to leave early. Until this year, we were unable to rent again because I waited to long to book.
This time, however, we had a lovely stay without family drama. The home is large, allowing people to spread out if needed. Our dogs loved the fenced in yard. There is a ledge that our youngest dog slipped down, but he easily recovered, then bounded back up.
Due to our youngest dog's sight impairment and back-end weakness, we did not take the steps to the lakefront, but we drove our car down three times during the week so they could swim and we could relax.
The water is super-clean (a tiny bit of "seaweed," and some algae deeper in, but it was not problematic at all).
We enjoyed a fire in the firepit one night. The kitchen is stocked with everything you can think of -- spices, coffee filters, etc. There are cleaning supplies to help clean-up be easy. Bed sheets and towels were supplied, which was wonderful. Having a washer/dryer was a bonus.
The Wi-Fi has the strongest signal in the master bedroom, so we watched TV there (didn't try in the living room).
All-in-all, Lucky Dog Lodge was terrific. Mary was super-easy to work with and answered any questions we had. We will definitely return (sooner this time, when I book early enough).
This is the 4th summer my family has stayed at this property. We just LOVE it! The house is amazing and always well cared for, organized with clear guidance and instructions. The kitchen is stocked with ample pots, pans, and dishes. The dining table is large with a beautiful view of the lake. There is a washer and dryer, fenced in yard for your dog, a fire pit and grill. It's really nice! They also added string lights to the stair railing which not only looks pretty from the lake, but is really nice for the evening walks back up to the house.
The stairs to the lake are very manageable and very safe and sturdy. If for some reason you have a person with limited mobility, there is the ability to drive them to the lake level. Remember to bring your vehicle back up to park it though, many of the neighbors live here and need the road way clear for their access.
This is truly a slice of heaven, in nature, through the vineyards and you have your own lake front and dock. There are kayaks and a paddle boat too...truly wonderful. And if you are lucky, you will even see the Bald Eagle that lives just North of this house. We look forward to seeing him every year. The waterfall near the house is so pretty.
Mary and Mike are gracious and wonderful hosts. Easy to communicate with and very helpful. This is truly a top notch house and lake property. We love Seneca Lake and this location. It's our happy place! My family and I love it!

Great location, comfortable stay
My husband and I stayed here for our annual trip to the Finger Lakes over Labor Day weekend. We stayed in the same neighborhood last year, so we largely knew what to expect in the area - the location is absolutely perfect and quiet, even on a busy holiday weekend.
The house is exactly as pictured, but the photos don't really do their beautifully renovated living room justice. The kitchen and bathtub/shower are older, but still in good working order (although the stove has two burners not working, which was a bigger pain than we thought it would be!). We had to refill the propane for the grill during our stay, but it wasn't a big deal and I anticipate getting a refund when they send our security deposit back. We also had trouble getting the grill lit (it has to be done manually), but Mike came over and helped us.
There are 85 stairs down to the waterfront, but we didn't find them to be an issue and the staircase is in very good shape. The waterfront area is a bit more grown in than the photos show, which isn't an issue, but does make navigating the stairs a bit tricky. We were disappointed that the adirondack chairs shown in the photo aren't still there - there is two rather uncomfortable wood chairs on the dock now (I'm glad we brought our foldable hammock, but there are also pop up chairs you can use). In addition, the boat shown anchored off shore is no longer there - there's a new dock that the boat is docked at. Unfortunately, the keg that the boat used to be anchored to is still floating in the water, which means every single sunset photo I took has a keg in it - a first world problem. Regardless, we still enjoyed every evening down by the water and had fun making a camp fire (make sure to bring your own wood). You do share the lakefront area with their cabin next door - the people staying next door basically kicked us off the dock that should have been "ours" one evening, but it was fine and not worth arguing about. The listing says that there is a kayak and rowboat for use - we never found the kayak (we had rented our own, so it wasn't an issue) or the rowboat paddles. Kayaking on the lake is great - watch for bald eagles!
Overall, it was a great, comfortable stay in a dynamite location. Some of our local favorites: dinner at Stonecat Cafe, beer from Grist Iron Brewing and Roosterfish in Watkins Glen, BBQ from Nickel's Pit in Watkins Glen and hiking at Treman and Taughannock State Parks (much less crowded than Watkins Glen Park).

Response from VrboOwner on 22 Mar 2020
We appreciate and love to hear all of the nice comments, detailed feedback, and especially the constructive criticisms of this guest, who is a travel blogger, and we feel honored to get a four-star rating from someone like her. I would like to clarify and/or respond to a few things that were mentioned in her review though.
1. The stove does have two burners that don't work right now. It couldn't bet fixed so we bought a new one, but didn't get it installed before the fully booked part of the year. We'll get that done this Fall though. We've taken our griddle out of the cabinet, and hope that helps with making big breakfasts. There are also crockpots and baking dishes that help a lot. The grill helps too. We explain our policy about having the propane tanks for the grill filled and getting reimbursed in a pre-arrival informational email.
2. I never thought about how our keg-mooring would make pictures not be as nice, but I guess it does make sense. We've always liked it. By the way, we've bought a floating deck (swim platform), and we plan to fix it up this Fall and then attach it to the keg-mooring out in the water next year. We feel that our future guests will be able to have a lot of fun if they want to swim out to it, dive into the deeper water out there, or just sit on it for a while and relax away from shore.
3. This property has 70 feet of its own lake frontage. There is a completely separate area with 45 feet of lake frontage for our other cottage next door, but sometimes they're confused about which area they're supposed to use. I've left notes in the other cottage with pictures to show them where their frontage is. Maybe I need a bigger note. We also have plans to put up some signs on the lake frontage to make sure that people aren't confused about it anymore. The two properties do not share lake frontage though. They each have their own area with their own bonfire ring, picnic table, and a short dock. In the future, the swim platform will be shared between both sets of guests and us, but not the frontage.
4. The kayak is been down on the lake frontage, but it's put away in the boat house, so I guess she didn't see it. The rowboat ores and kayak paddles are in the boat shed.
5. Our staircase has 75 steps, not 85. Up at the house, there are 10 more steps, but they aren't part of the staircase.
We're glad that we get detailed feedback occasionally that helps us to make our property better. Thanks so much!
We had such a great time at this Vrbo - the check-in and out was so easy, and the house itself was in an amazing location with access directly to the lake.
It has been a pleasure working with Mary & Mike, my hosts, throughout this entire experience. The cottage was absolutely spotless.... everything you need (utensil wise) to make a meal was provided. Two refrigerators in the kitchen, made it easy to juggle cold beverages and food.
The weather was a challenge, but we had a modern fireplace to ward off the rain dampness.
Beds were perfect.
I'm looking forward to returning next year.
