Our cottage is tastefully decorated in a distinctly English country house style. The far-reaching views to be seen from every window inspired the poetess, Francis Horowitz, who lived in the cottage in the 1980s.
There are some lovely walks from the door, particularly to Garway Hill, said to be the most beautiful place in Herefordshire, offering stunning views over 5 surrounding counties. The cottage is also ideally placed for you to experience canoeing along the Wye River, swimming in the River Monnow, or hiking on Offa’s Dyke or The Three Castles Way. Horse-riding, rock climbing, canoeing, fishing and caving are all within easy reach in the Wye Valley, the Black Mountains and the Brecon Beacons. The cottage is also close to the Forest of Dean with its cycling paths, picnic sites, Sculpture Trail and family attractions such as Go Ape. A 20-minute drive away is the cathedral city of Hereford, and the market towns of Ross-on-Wye and Monmouth, which host a variety of quality restaurants and independent shops. For sightseeing, memorable days out can be had at the Blaenavon World Heritage Site, the Roman Caerleon, and Goodrich, Raglan or Eastnor Castles. Golf is possible at Hereford, Ross-on-Wye and Monmouth, and racing found at Chepstow and Cheltenham. The famous book town of Hay-on-Wye is reached after a beautiful drive through The Golden Valley.
After a busy day exploring all that Herefordshire has to offer, enjoy an evening dining in the garden, watching the sun set over the glorious countryside. On the cottage’s ground floor, beyond the entrance porch, you will find the kitchen, with its beautiful wooden work surfaces, food preparation island, and the easy-to-use, hard-to-beat electric Everhot cooker. The kitchen is well equipped for making casseroles, cakes, and tray bakes. The open-plan dining room is the perfect space for enjoying meals with family and friends around the large farmhouse-style table. There are two steps up into the living room with its large, comfy sofas, the wood burner and a smart TV. If you want to get away from the television there is another living space in the glorious sunroom, which has folding glass doors leading out onto the south-facing front patio. There is a ground-floor toilet and a separate utility room with a washing machine and tumble dryer. On the first floor you will find three bedrooms, one with a large spring pocketed super king-size bed, and the other two with twin beds. The bathroom has the best views from the cottage and has a stand alone roll-top bath, shower cubicle, handbasin and toilet. Off-road parking for up to three cars is available in the gravel yard opposite the cottage, just across the road, where there are also some fruit trees.
There is a pub just under a mile away, and a village shop and post office just under 2 miles away. The house is easily accessible from the M50, with Bristol or Cardiff only an hour away.
The cottage can accommodate six adults, plus a cot is available for a child under three years old. Booking is for a minimum of three nights. There is a 25% discount for a 7 night booking for most of the year.

This is a gorgeous country cottage that is fully modernised and perfect for our family gathering. The whole place was spotless and welcoming, with everything we could possibly have needed including tonnes of local information. We only wish we could have stayed longer. Thank you.

Thanks so much for your review, it was a real pleasure to have you and your family to stay in our cottage and thank you for leaving it so clean.
Very nice cottage in the Herefordshire hills near the Welsh border. Very well equipped. We had a most pleasant stay at the cottage. A very nice -though long, walk is to the Bridge Inn in Kentchurch via Garway Hill.
What a lovely stay we had in this cosy cottage. Everything you need to have an relaxing escape to the country was there. We immediately felt at ease and wanted to stay longer.
This cottage is like the Tardis, when you enter it is so much bigger on the inside. The views from all windows were beautiful. The kitchen was well equipped, the lounge very spacious and the beds were comfortable.

Lovely cottage in beautiful location
We would definitely come again to stay here. Very comfortable, with everything you need. And wonderful views. Lots to see in the surrounding area. Not a good idea to try & find it in the dark when you first arrive though.

Gorgeous house, lovely setting.
We loved it. Chose this rental because of the location and it was described as family friendly. Our 14 month old daughter loved it, especially the toy box. Lots of character and nice little touches make it feel very homely. Very cosy, we all slept well!

Delighted you and your family had a good stay! Thank you for your review
Myself and my wife stayed at this lovely character cottage for 4 nights in May 2021. The host representative came to see if everything was ok on our first night, and was at hand for any problems, not that we had any. We had a very peaceful stay, comfy beds, just overall a great time.

Cottage was superb, everything you needed and the views are amazing. Can’t wait to return. Marina who looks after the cottage welcomed us and showed us round she was on hand to help with anything we needed. All in all a superb break in a superb country cottage, just what we wanted and we couldn’t have asked for anything more.

Thank you. We are honoured that you return to us each year and warms thanks, too, for taking the trouble to review us each time. I hope your little one enjoyed his or her visit this time.
This is such a beautiful house and perfect for families. The location is lovely and a short drive from great places to explore like Garway Hill, Ross on Wye and Symmonds Yat. Inside the house is full of character and beautiful little touches. The playroom and selection of children’s books and toys was much appreciated by our little boys! Fabulous and we’d definitely recommend it to others.

So glad to hear you had a good time, thank you for your review.
Sandra's property is delightful. Really spacious and comfortable- even better than the photos. Kitchen was especially well equipped. Quiet location with places to walk the dogs locally. Short drive to main roads and plenty to do locally. Not a huge garden but lovely outlook and secure for the dogs, very private and felt like we were getting away from it all. We really didn't want to leave!
The cottage was full of character, extremely comfortable and clean. The only problem was that it wasn't suitable for people with disabilities, I myself found the stairs to be high with no rails

Perectify for a peaceful new year, just what we needed!
The cottage is pretty near perfect, quiet, spacious and very well equipped. The log burner and cosy lounge with large comfortable sofas made for our stay to be the peaceful retreat that we needed.
Cooking was a pleasure in the well equipped kitchen and the cooker, although a challenge, made the experience more interesting and enjoyable.
All in all the cottage is one of our favourite places to stay.
We will be back!!

Peaceful home from home
We stayed at the cottage with our two young daughters for a long weekend and fell in love with the place.
It is beautifully furnished and spacious, with glorious views, nestled in the middle of rolling countryside.
The local farm shop (Little Pengethley) has delicious food and you can get fresh eggs even closer from the vicarage in St Weonards (delightfully there is an honesty box, and you select and pack your own eggs). It's a lovely walk down to the village, where there is also a local shop for essentials.
We had a fun day trip to the Wye Valley Butterfly Zoo (about 20 mins drive) which the children adored; there is also a giant maze, crazy golf and a tea room onsite.
We loved the whole stay and hope to return soon for a longer break.

Delighted that you enjoyed your 'Herefordshire' experience staying at our cottage. Thank you.
This cottage feels like a well loved home rather than a holiday rental. We all loved it too! There was plenty of space for the 6 of us- all the rooms are spacious and full of character. A lot of thought had clearly gone into providing pretty much everything we needed.
The cottage is on a quiet lane with sheep in the field next door and views of the wonderful countryside. A peaceful place to relax, read some of the many books and take the odd stroll or run round the lanes. There is comprehensive information about the area for a more active stay. We used it as a base to go to the Hay festival, and it was a joy to return to in the evening after a long day of stimulating events.
I highly recommend this cottage. Thank you Sandra.

Wow! The property is beautifully presented, cosy and warm with well equipped kitchen.
The cottage is perfect. We thoroughly enjoyed seeing the new year in surrounded by the beautiful scenery. After days out in Hereford and Monmouth we found our evenings cosied up in front of the wood burning stove to be a perfect end to the day. The endless supply of wood was such a blessing on the cold December nights!
The country style, well equipped kitchen made our choice to cook a pleasant experience and the dishwasher was an appreciated bonus.
The beds were found to be comfortable. It was a real luxury to sit in bed in the mornings with a cup of tea overlooking the stunning scenery.
Across the road we found Marina to be helpful and pleasant.
All in all a perfect mini break. We will return I'm sure.
Thank you.

Lovely cottage, great location
This was our first time in the UK, and we and our 2 kids (7 and 10) had a simply wonderful time during our two week stay here. The house is beautiful, spacious, and comfortably furnished, including a very well-stocked kitchen and comfy beds. The location is really quite perfect. St. Weonards is midway between the Wye Valley and Brecon Beacons, where we spent many days walking in the marvelous countryside. Closer by are plenty of castles, pubs (including the Fountain, which lucky for us had just reopened), and short hikes, such as up Garway Hill. Hereford and Monmouth are both just around the corner, so there's plenty of shopping. And on afternoons when we didn't feel like doing anything, we had fun looking out the window at the sheep in the field across the street! The cottage is really a perfect blend of isolated and in the thick of it---it's hard to describe, but exactly what we wanted.
There's ample parking in the little lot across from the house. The roads are rather intimidating at first---very narrow with tall hedges on either side, and the occasional tractor barrelling down from the opposite direction---but we got used to driving rather quickly. It helps that the locals are very sensible drivers.
Lastly, I highly recommend a visit to Hay-on-Wye. Spend some time in Addyman's bookshop, then have high tea at the Old Stables tea room.

Thank you for your thoughtful review: we felt really honoured you stayed in our cottage on your first visit to the UK. I was most interested to learn what you enjoyed about your stay in South Herefordshire: a special and relatively unexplored part of the country with such beautiful country walks, as you suggest.
This is our second stay at Number 2 Mount Pleasant. Peaceful cottage, good location, easy to find and all the facilities that are needed for our stay. Would recommend staying here to others.

About the host
Hosted by Mrs Sandra Robinson
We are a family of four: Andrew and Sandra, with two school aged children. This is our own holiday house which we have enjoyed visiting since 2009. We have got to know the area extremely well and will be happy to share our knowledge of the famous, and as-yet-undiscovered, wonders of south Herefordshire. The cottage has a distinctive style and charm and it is comfortable and well stocked. In our kitchen essential food items are available for guests to use, and it is well equipped for baking and general cooking.
Why they chose this property
We love this area of Herefordshire for being so wonderfully rural, often with sheep in the fields around. Our comfortable cottage, with its wonderful views over the countryside, affords a relaxing break. There are many things to see and do in the surrounding area. A (relatively) undiscovered place is Garway Hill, which is visible from our front door: after a gentle 20 minute walk to the top there are stunning 360 degree views over 7 counties. We think some of the best hill view points in the country can be found in Herefordshire: at Symonds Yat, Black Hill and so on. This area is a walker's paradise. Other highlights include canoeing on the River Wye, visiting ruined castles and visiting the near by market towns.
What makes this property unique
This cottage was the home and inspiration of the poetess and BBC presenter, Francis Horowitz. Two of her poems are on the walls and a book of her work can be read. She was clearly inspired by the lovely views from all of the windows.
