Lovely cottage, I would say a little more spacious than appears in the pictures and wonderful peaceful location. The river is a very short walk down the hill (the walk back is strenuous though!). The garden is lovely and nice touches like there being a small bottle of milk in the fridge on arrival. Would definitely stay again!

Thank you, Simon, for your review. I'm sorry I never got to meet you but I'm glad you had such an enjoyable stay.
A characterful cottage surrounded by a lovely cottage garden and set in beautiful countryside. The cottage was really clean and contained everything needed for an enjoyable stay.
Able to get to Ross on wye and Hereford easily. The village is very pretty and there are fab views from the front windows. We would definitely rebook. Whilst there the weather was really warm but the cottage has thick walls and was very cool to relax and sleep in.
Overall cleanliness and management good but some details could be improved in particular the toilet seat, the base of the shower and tray, the entrance door and mat. The location downstairs of the bathroom and toilet could have been made more clear in the publicity as it could affect the elderly in particular. It would be almost impossible to go up or down stairs in the night without walking others. All small matters but those which create impressions. The location, view etc are lovely as was the abundance of fruit in the garden!

Lovely property - small but perfectly formed!
My husband and I spent a few relaxing days here recently. The property is extremely tastefully decorated, well maintained and is in very peaceful surroundings with gorgeous views. The shower room is downstairs but that didn't cause any problems. The kitchen is well equipped and the sitting room is delightful. Outside is a garden table and chairs from which you can inspect the proprietor's vegetable patch! Pub within easy walking distance, although we never made it there! An all-round excellent property. Happy to recommend.

Perfect Cottage, Perfect Place
Antonia's cottage is one of the nicest vacation rentals we've stayed in. The cottage is clean, well-equipped, and tastefully designed to incorporate a "cottage" feel with all modern conveniences. (The larger-sized fridge and freezer are wonderful to have when you're self-catering for a week.) The rooms are bright and comfortably furnished. The garden catches the sun--a lovely place sit and admire the view. It was a great central location for both the historic sites we wanted to see in the area and walking. We enjoyed the Three Churches and a Bridge circular walk you can do straight from your door. (See Wye Walker D1) Hoarwithy itself is a friendly community-- do go for cake and tea at the church if it's on when you're there.

Thank you for your lovely review. It is very pleasing to have such enthusiastic guests, I enjoyed meeting you.
What a lovely little cottage for an off the beaten track stay in the English countryside. Thank goodness for Google maps or I don’t think we’d have found out way! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
Small but perfectly formed. It is a great base to go to so many different locations. It has all the basics and is a cosy cottage to come back to after a day out.
Lovley cottage with far reaching views, quite ,comfortable and friendly welcome from host

Liked: Check-in, communication, location
Disliked: Cleanliness
Cleanliness and view not as expected!. Garden overgrown!. Downstairs bathroom not in description.
"Well tended Garden' was an 'allotment' that looked as though it had been totally abandoned months before! All overgrown, blocking 'view'. One plant bed, by seating area was all weeds..Veg plot with cabbages were full 'blown'. .Loads of apples all on the ground, and black plastic pots rolling round, and greenhouse by back door-with dead plants and baby tomatoes on the floor!. The area around the door mat was disgusting.!! Obviously had not been swept for months it appeared!. Asked owner to attend to that!. Dirt all walking in!! The so called VIEW was of massive greenhouse sheeting - looked like a river. View being taken over by overgrowth. Cleanliness was not good. Surfaces not clean. Inside of Cutlery drawer dirty, and fridge shelves not clean. Asked owner to come and inspect.!! .Teapot spout chipped, and not clean. Spent over two hours cleaning & washing main eating cutlery and drawer, and some cups/plates/cereal bowls for hygiene safety ..for two of us...and worktops! Coronavrius Alert! Another tea pot was disgustingly brown inside and a mouldy dried tea bag in it! Horrendous. .Not cleaned for months. Reported to owner.A bulb in both light fittings in the kitchen were not working., so quite dark. Called owner again.. Waited 24 hours for replacement bulbs. Stairs dangerous, as no stair rail at top so coming down in the night to use the Bathroom ( which was downstairs) was dangerous. NO NOTE OF BATHROOM BEING DOWNSTAIRS IN DESCRIPTION.. .and top steps creaked badly..as did bedroom doors, .waking spouse up. .stairs need painting. .and garden desperate for some love and care! Beautiful apples left to fall everywhere. Mr Cuthbert had just cut the lawn, and had cleared up some of the fallen fruit as we arrived. The approach down a narrow lane, was past a Derelict farm building that was a shock.. and another old farm building, immediately before the cottage. Not a good first impression! . ....However, the local area was nice. Lovely church, and river walks. Owner old us 'her cleaner had let her down' but I do not believe she had a cleaner at that time, as the owner's email stated she was away and would not be back until that lunchtime..to 'check everything was ok'... I think she had to get back to clean....so Not allowed into the property until 4pm. It was some 7 pm before I sat down for some food after all the cleaning, and requesting owner to come to inspect..This- ON MY BIRTHDAY.!! No real apology. And not even a 'Happy Birthday' wish.!!.

Oh dear, I'm so sorry you had such a bad experience and that you didn't think I apologised. I thought I apologised profusely at the time and did do all I could to help. I bought new light bulbs as soon as I could bearing in mind that the new ones I already had didn't seem to work. Access is normally at 4pm (and should have been 5pm under Covid guidelines) and checkout at 10 but I was persuaded to let you stay until 12 on the Wednesday as I was under the impression that your birthday was that day. Because you left late on the Wednesday I was unable to say goodbye and apologise again for the problems you had at the start of your stay.
This is an old cottage, a bit frayed around the edges. If the floors creak in places or the paint on the stairs is a bit chipped that's only to be expected and it does get regularly touched up. Most guests find it part of the charm of the place. You are right about the listing not saying the bathroom is on the ground floor and I will rectify that immediately. However your husband was aware of this fact as I had sent an email to him prior to your stay. I was assured this would not be a problem as you were both 'reasonably agile'. I'm sorry too you were fussed by the state of the garden. You are right that it has become a bit neglected during this awful pandemic but my priority has been the safety and hygiene of the indoor spaces rather than the outdoor ones.
Sadly, I cannot influence the state of the farm buildings in the locality nor the polytunnels which I agree are an eyesore but essential to the local economy especially this year. This is a very rural part of the country and such sights are part of its fibre. By contrast the lovely meadows by the river and rolling landscapes full of woods and hills make up for a bit of plastic.
I do have a cleaner who normally receives no such complaints. In fact I have had many comments saying the cottage was 'spotlessly clean' and I have many regular guests who love coming to stay. It was very unfortunate that you had this bad experience and I shall certainly be making more detailed checks in future to ensure there is no such repeat.
We had a very relaxing break in a lovely old cottage surrounded by beautiful countryside. The wood burner was a treat , as it was chilly in the evenings!

About the host
Hosted by Antonia Cuthbert
I worked in the City until after my children were born. I bought our house in Herefordshire as a bolthole from London and to be near my family. We now have 2 children and 2 dogs and Herefordshire is my favourite county in the whole of the UK. Being able to share the cottage next door with other families who enjoy the surroundings as much as we do gives me great pleasure. My husband has recently retired enabling us to live at home for the first time in 20 years!
Why they chose this property
This village is our home and our house is next door to this cottage. We bought it because we had the opportunity and decided to do self-catering holiday lets. Herefordshire is one of the most beautiful (in my opinion) counties in England and certainly one of the least spoilt. As you will see from the views from the cottage, it is stunning countryside and while public transport is is not great that adds to the charm of the county. From the River Wye to the Black Mountains, Malvern Hills and Forest of Dean there is outstanding natural beauty and we hope visitors will enjoy it as much as we do.
What makes this property unique
The peace of the countryside and watching the seasons change over the Wye Valley are very special features. In winter especially the cottage is very cosy with a very effective wood burning stove and it is a wonderful place to just hide away in for a few days.
