Spacious 4 Season Cabin, Ski in Winter, Lake in Summer
Enjoy Bear Valley in our cosy, rustic family cabin. We love to visit and frequently host friends and family - the cabin is set up to be a well stocked and comfortable home away from home. Please feel free to reach out for additional info.
********** VISITING IN WINTER? PLEASE READ: Bear Valley is a special place in the winter - most roads are closed to cars and groomed for skiers and snowmobiles. This means you cannot drive directly to the cabin. The cabin is a 20 minute walk from parking (just over a 1/2 mile), mostly on groomed snow. There is a nice shortcut we call the "cut through"- that makes the walk much shorter - it is sometimes easy to navigate, but after a fresh snow, it may require snowshoes.
If you have never visited Bear Valley in winter, please count on hiring the local snowmobile taxi for your initial trip into the cabin and for when you leave. We will leave at least one pair of adult and one pair of kid snowshoes at the cabin for you to explore while you visit. When there is enough snow, intermediate/advanced skiers can ski to the shuttle and back down to the cabin - you’ll need to carry your skis about 300 feet uphill through the "cut through" before skiing down to the shuttle.
Feel free to check with the owner before booking. I'm happy to give you lots of additional info. ********** PETS: Up to two well-behaved dogs allowed for no additional fee. **********
Summer and winter: the perfect spot for relaxation or a magical adventure This roomy (1,700 square foot) chalet-style house is on a quiet cul-de-sac away from the main road. While it’s walking distance to Bear Lake and the Bear Valley village center in both summer and winter, the natural setting and surrounding trees make you feel like you’re out in the woods. The House: Great sun and a spacious second-floor deck expand the great room making it perfect for entertaining, relaxing, or star-gazing. In addition to the great room upstairs, the home features a large family room downstairs perfect for kids to have their own space. Four bedrooms outfitted with King, queen and bunk beds, make it possible to sleep up to 6 adults and 6 kids/teens comfortably. The large flat backyard is great for snow play and snow forts in winter. For a winter time adventure... Central heating with a Nest® thermostat means the place is cozy and warm when you arrive. The two-story configuration puts your primary living space well above the winter snow in all but the snowiest years, so it’s bright and airy year-round. The covered entry and exterior lighting make it easy to get in – even with the deepest snow. The woodstove adds a cozy charm to the upstairs while the spacious mudroom and adjoining storage room keeps the clutter of skis, boots, or snowshoes tidy and organized. The cul de sac is the perfect spot for winter sledding and it's right out the front door!
For a summertime getaway... It's summertime in Bear Valley & the living is easy! There are so many wonderful summer activities in our neck of the woods: Get your heart rate up with rock climbing, mountain biking, or cavern exploration; or take it easy with a trip to the vineyards & wineries around the valley. Hike to a swimming hole for a refreshing dip before you head to the Bear Valley music festival to dance and catch fireflies. Bear Valley Village is a short walk from the cabin, and the weather is perfect for a trip into town for ice-cream. Walk to the nearby Bear Lake reservoir and swim out to the floating dock or utilize our boats (combo of sit-on-top kayak and paddle board - check with owner for specifics) or travel a few miles to the larger Lake Alpine where you can rent watercraft for an hour or a day.
When sunset rolls around, enjoy drinks on the deck and catch a view of the milky way later in the evening. Enjoy using the large propane grill to prepare outdoor meals. No matter the season, this home is the perfect sanctuary for you and your family to enjoy year-round.

About the host
Your host
I dreamed for years about a cabin in the Sierra - that dream came true in Bear Valley. When I’m not in my cabin, I live in the Bay Area with my family, two dogs and two cats, and come up to Bear Valley as often as I can. I want my guests to love Bear Valley and try to make sure you can have the best possible experience.
I enjoy hosting and am passionate about the unique small village that is Bear Valley. I’m the owner and I manage my rentals. Please ask me about logistics, area activities or any other information you need. I’m always happy to talk about Bear Valley!
Why they chose this property
Bear Valley village is a quiet, tiny mountain town and a true getaway. The cabin is located on a double lot in a quiet hollow, far enough from neighbors to have a sense of peace and privacy. In summer, the lake is a 10 minute walk along a pretty trail across the meadow and up a short hill. In winter, when the roads are closed, the cabin is close enough to the village to be accessible without a snowmobile.
What makes this property unique
The cabin is rustic, quirky, and charming. It is ideal for two families - the upstairs kitchen and living room is good for cooking and hanging out by the wood stove, the downstairs living room is movie watching central. What you get when you visit is the same as what I get - that means the kitchen is well supplied with quality pans and utensils, and basics are fully stocked (dishsoap, paper towels, aluminum foil, ziplock bags, olive oil, kosher salt, tea, cocoa, basic spices and condiments).
The carpet is still 1970’s orange, the entry stairs are weird and narrow, nature on occasion intrudes. Winter logistics can be challenging, but you’ll be rewarded by a unique and special experience.
