About this property
Bear Valley family fun in the trees
Classic a-frame cabin in Bear Valley. Swim, fish and hike in the summer. Downhill and cross-country ski in the winter.
Three stories - upstairs loft has queen bed and two singles. One bedroom on main floor has a double bed. Other bedroom on main floor has four twins in two bunk beds. Downstairs studio has another double including small second kitchen and second bathroom. Main floor includes kitchen, bathroom, couch with 2 rollouts, dining booth and living room with fireplace, large windows with view of trees and open floor plan - sliding glass doors open onto deck.
Come enjoy the tranquility of high Sierra mountain forest in the summer. Nearby lakes and rivers offer swimming, fishing and kayaking.
In the winter, you will find yourself in a true winter wonderland. The roads aren't plowed, access is by snowmobile. You will need to arrange your transport in and out with snowmobile either by renting your own or reserving a taxi ride with a local snowmobile company. We have a snowmobile taxi service that we can recommend (the good news that he is generally flexible with hours, within reason and with advance notice) -- if you need a snowmobile taxi, it is $50 per hour. In good snow years, you can ski to the shuttle to Bear Valley ski resort and then ski back at the end of the day. Bear Valley village is just a 15 minute walk away (about 5-6 blocks). It is easy and beautiful to walk.
Come enjoy this comfortable cabin in a unique mountain setting.

Beautiful cabin with a ton of room and nice amenities. in the winter it is a bit of a hike from the lodge to the cabin but there are folks who will snowmobile you up for a fee. Would definitely return!

Nice property. Great location. Most of the lights did not work. Couches were very worn. Overall had a great stay
We love Bear Valley and the property and stay was just what we expected! The property was a great location close to the Village, and plenty of space for our family and dog to enjoy.
Plenty of space for 2 families of 4. Beds and couches aren’t comfortable. Cabin is located near the bear valley lake. If you’re looking to stay outdoors for most of the time during your stay, this place will do.
GREAT LOCATION...home accommodates multi family. We had 3 generations. 2 Grandparents, 4 children w spouse, 4 grandkids. Cabin is very much original and is rustic. Host was very accommodating.
My family and I had such a great stay at this great cabin in the woods! Cabin is exactly as stated in description. We loved how many games they have for our family to play. The proximity to bear valley is as good as can be. Make sure you read full description because there is important information about winter accessibility. We would book again!
The six of us (3 'oldies', 1 middle-aged, 2 late teens) thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this utterly charming cabin with a distinct old-fashioned flair; so much reminded us of 'the good OLD times': the decor, the comfy furnishings, the casual lay-out, the amazing amount of kitchen and cooking supplies--in both cupboards and the refrigerator, the spirit of love for Bear Valley living all over the house. A small yet efficient kitchen (we never missed the dishwasher which would not have fit in anyway), odd assortments of linens but very comfortable beds. A place that made us immediately feel welcomed. It was not hotel-like spic and span, definitely showing its well-cared for age and the washing machine instructions made no sense to us, but we will gladly return and want to very much thank the owners for sharing their home with us,
Christiane F.

The house keeper was still there when we arrived
The house keeper was still there and we couldn’t check in until 3 hours later. All the food we got at the grocery store had gone bad while we waited for the rental to be done. When we got into the rental, the studio in the bottom floor was flooded and unusable, the bedroom with the bunk beds wasn’t cleaned and had no bed clothes and the soot bucket from the fireplace was full. The host did give us a partial refund but I was so uncomfortable and unhappy it made for a terrible trip

Great Winter Cabin Vibes, But Upgrades Needed
Our overall stay was exactly what we wanted. Great winter cabin vibes and location. We love Bear Valley and can't wait to come back next year. The snow mobile ride in was awesome and even walking to the lodge wasn't bad at all. The house just needs some upgrades and better instructions when checking-in. I'd suggest having the key to the home work on the bottom door so that when there is a lot of snow, guests don't have to get up to the top deck to get in. The cabin needs a good deep clean and dusting. However, please know that we loved it there and our girls (4 & 6) had a blast!
I stayed here while attending a wedding at the lodge down the street. The house was clean and accommodating, and was a very short drive (about a 5-10 minute walk) from the lodge. The lake was nearby too, but I didn’t have time to check it out.
We stayed in this cabin for a corporate offsite. Many of the decorations are a throw-back to an earlier time period. Excellent wifi, new-ish appliances, great sound system, clean though rustic. Only one issue, owner said no outside fires (this due to recent wildfires).
The cabin is a lovely and spacious A-Frame. The setting is an excellent blend of rustic seclusion with access to civilization (and skiing!). It snowed about 18" during our stay giving the village a storybook feeling. The cabin's kitchen is cozy but well-equipped and we were able to prepare many nice hot dinners. The owner-managers are responsive and attentive. The property description is really accurate, which we truly appreciated. The 10-minute walk (or a quick snowmobile ride) up a snowcat-groomed road is fine for us, but a point to consider if you're renting there in the winter.
Funky, functional cabin/home in a convenient and beautiful location. We were able to do lots of snow play right outside the front door. Would definitely recommend and visit again
I liked the cabin and location. It is cool retro sheik. If you like Hot tub time machine you will love this cabin. The owner is great and there is a ton of beds. I enjoyed my stay.
Thanks

We enjoyed our short stay at the cabin. The location is excellent - we enjoyed visits to Lake Alpine and Calaveras Big Trees State Park. The cabin is fairly secluded. We could see other cabins, but they aren’t too close for comfort in a mountain setting. It’s very quiet and dark at night, too, which should be expected. Maybe it’s more lively during ski season, but we liked the tranquility.
The cabin has true 60s/70s vintage style which we loved! But it could use some light updating - more like fixes. The blinds In the upstairs bedroom were broken and several lightbulbs were out or the wrong wattage used throughout the cabin. There is no proper overhead light in the kitchen so it was a bit hard to cook dinner. But we managed and sort of got used to it. The vintage green fridge is super cool looking and is cold enough, but it is loud and seems to run all the time. Fixing or changing it out could save some energy/money I’d think. I think the listing says there is a dishwasher - there isn’t. But that didn’t bother us at all. We didn’t use the gas grill as it has seen far better days. The lid was broken and if there should be lava rocks inside they seem to have disintegrated and there is a lot of rust. It didn’t seem safe or a good idea to use it.
Overall, this is a cool mountain A-frame cabin meant for ski trips and summer vacations. It is not fancy, but it is comfortable enough and good for a getaway.

We purchased this home in spring of 2013, because we love skiing at Bear Valley. It reminds us of what Tahoe used to be with a relaxed family friendly atmosphere. Everyone we have met goes the extra mile. We love the adventure of skiing in and out. After spending time there during the summer of 2013, we have fallen in love with the summer season as well. There are camp opportunities for kids from soccer to archery. There are numerous hiking, mountain biking, swimming and fishing opportunities in the nearby lakes, rivers, National Forests and Wilderness areas. Some people enjoy Bear Valley in the summer more than the winter -- our family loves both seasons. We hope that whatever season you chose to go that you will find the Bear Valley area as inspiring as we have!
