About this property
The old bakery cottage located on the waterfront.
Bakery Cottage was built in the early 1920's by the Feist family who were the local bakers. She (definitely a she) is enchanting with polished wood floors and native timber wall sarking. Ideal for 2 couples to soak up her undeniable charm, chill out and enjoy all that beautiful Doubtless Bay has to offer. Start the day with a cup of tea on the verandah and enjoy the harbour view. Take a short walk to one of the cafes for breakfast and browse the shops, including the Flax Bush located next door. Spend the day at one of the numerous Doubtless Bay beaches within easy drive. End the day with a cocktail on the verandah followed by a bbq in the private courtyard at the rear of the cottage or walk to the Fish and Chip shop for dinner. Mangonui is an ideal place to stay if you are planning to visit Cape Reinga, its a day trip to the Cape and the evening can be spent at one of the numerous eateries. November 2020 in consultation with interior designer Kelly Ritchie the cottage was renovated. There is a new heritage style kitchen and bathroom with luxe vintage fittings. The living areas and bedrooms have been freshened and furnished to a high standard with beautiful local art. The courtyard has been revamped and is a cosy, private space, to gather in the cool during those hot Northland summer days. We had a lovely time. The house is within walking distance of everyone you need but just far enough out of town to ensure a peaceful stay. We have stayed here previously and will do so again.
Beautifully appointed cottage. A joy to stay - everything pretty much perfect. Stunning view, perfect spot from which to explore the far north. Highly recommend
It was a stunning and well fitted out gorgeous little home. The linen was top notch, beds comfortable and you didn’t want for anything. Will definitely come back again and again and tell friends and family.
Pam could not have been more welcoming and her delightful home was well appointed, tastefully furnished and thoroughly comfortable. Everything was perfect. We wished we had the time to stay longer in Mangonui - a delightful town.

We loved staying at this little gem. Very clean, lovely views of the water and the only negative is that we had not booked to stay longer! But will be returning soon hopefully.
We loved our stay in Bakery Cottage so much that we extended by a couple of days. It is a spacious and well equipped cottage that we immediately felt at home in. Pam was extremely helpful and made our stay really enjoyable.
We enjoyed staying in an old but comfortable and very nicely renovated cottage (a nice change from bland and characterless!). Nice to have front and back areas to relax in according to the weather. Wish we had more time to spend here.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, taking in dusk over the bay with cocktails from the sunroom, and doing the easy walk into the village for kai. The house was really well equipped with everything we needed, and was in immaculate condition. Would definitely recommend and would search it out if we're in the area again.

We purchased the cottage from my mother who had owned it for 18 years. We had lived there for 18 months before buying our first house in Mangonui. Mangonui is my home, the villa next door to the cottage belonged to my grandparents. I have many happy memories of this part of Mangonui, in the 1970's we local kids swam and played at the waters edge while my grandmother ran a busy tearooms in the villa. The cottage is a special place.
