The Passage is an off grid couples cabin with outdoor wood fired bath. Only 10 minutes from the ferry, the cabin is situated on a sheep farm and nestled into the rolling hills with panoramic ocean views. Your stay will be eco friendly, but you’ll still enjoy all the creature comforts whilst experiencing the island’s rugged natural beauty and native wildlife.
Designed with Kangaroo Island's ever-changing weather in mind, the architecturally designed cabin ensures you'll be comfortable across the seasons. The cabin is well insulated with double glazed windows and doors resulting in a cozy haven during the cooler months whilst remaining cool on the warmer days. Snuggle up by the indoor wood-burning fireplace in winter and be cooled by the ceiling fan in the warmer months. Ample firewood is provided as part of your stay.
Designed to be part of nature, you’ll be woken by beautiful sunrises (eye masks are provided if you like sleeping in!) Enjoy the luxury of French linen whilst nestled against the feature window that immerses you into the landscape. You will fall asleep under the most spectacular night skies with zero light pollution and the sounds of the surrounding farmland.
A fully functional kitchen is on offer with a two burner gas cooktop, bar fridge, Nespresso pod coffee machine, kettle, toaster and all the various pots, pans and cooking utensils you will need to cook up a storm. Outdoors, a weber bbq is provided if you'd prefer to cook outside whilst enjoying the view. Locally sourced olive oil, as well as tea and coffee is included as part of your stay. Dine indoors at the fold-out dining table or enjoy a meal outdoors whilst watching the ferries make their way across Backstairs Passage.
The bathroom features a flushing toilet, concrete basin and rain-head shower under an expansive skylight. The cabin is stocked with locally made hand/body wash, shampoo and conditioner.
Being situated at the top of a hill and overlooking the ocean, there is often a fresh breeze. The outdoor wood fired bath and fire pit area is cocooned by a screen which acts as a southerly wind break. The wood fired bath may take an hour or two to heat to a comfortable temperature. This creates the ultimate off-grid indulgence when paired with a glass of local wine (Dudley Wines is situated next door or False Cape Wines is just down the road!)
Whilst the property provides the perfect backdrop to disconnect and unwind, we understand the importance of staying connected and provide high-speed starlink internet. Being a completely off-grid stay, power and water resources are not unlimited and guests are encouraged to consider minimising their footprint where possible. * Please note a second cabin will be launching in Spring 2026 and will share the existing 3 acre paddock. The current cabin faces east and the second cabin will be facing west to maintain guest privacy. Both cabin’s accesses and outdoor facilities will remain fully private.
