We enjoyed having a family wake / celebration of our Father’s life at the lodge on the Kaolin Farms wooded property. The lodge was perfect for the 19 people that came for the wake. The caretaker cooked us a steak dinner with black berry cobbler. The owner and the caretaker of the property were quick to address any issues. The cottage and the hunting lodge are vintage buildings with antique furniture and working fireplaces from the 1920-30s. The property has a unique antique 1930s vibe. This historic property has a history that goes back to the 1800s. Kaolin clay was used to make local pottery and stone was cut from local quarries and shipped around the US. The Kaolin farm is near Kaolin Creek and is in Kaolin Township. And at one time the Kaolin township had a post office. The community Enough was also in the township. Much of Kaolin Township and Enough is now under water under Council Bluffs Lake. I would highly recommend staying at Kaolin Farms if you are looking for a quiet vintage experience in the former historic Summer Retreat of the Swift Family. Would also recommend going to the local Mennonite Farmers Market five miles away as well as the Historic Village of Caledonia twelve miles away.
