About the host
Hosted by Jennifer Gladson
We didn't plan to fall in love with Okaloosa Island. We came to visit our son, stationed at Eglin Air Force Base, and a long weekend turned into something we didn't expect. We've lived in Casper, Wyoming our whole lives — beautiful, but the winters are long. That first trip to the Gulf, standing in front of that turquoise water, something shifted.
We started dreaming about owning a place here. In 2020, we made it real.
Unit 203 is our Florida home away from home — and we've worked hard to make it feel that way for everyone who stays here. Because we actually use this condo ourselves, every detail was intentional. New mattresses throughout. A fully remodeled master bath. A kitchen stocked for real cooking. Balcony furniture you'll actually want to sit in for hours.
One thing guests mention in almost every review: the dolphins. They swim past regularly — close enough to watch from the balcony with your morning coffee. It never gets old. The sunsets are as beautiful as Wyoming sunsets.
Summer Place is a smaller, quieter complex — 53 units, Gulf-front, with a lagoon pool, hot tub, beachfront grill, and over 200 feet of private beach. No resort chaos. Just calm, space, and a stretch of the Gulf that feels genuinely peaceful.
We hope it feels like home. We hope the Gulf is as good to you as it's been to us.

Why they chose this property
Okaloosa Island felt different from the moment we discovered it.
It's a barrier island — quieter and less commercialized than Destin just down the road, but with the same breathtaking emerald water and sugar-white sand. When we started looking for a place to buy, we knew we wanted to be here.
Then we found Summer Place, and it checked every box.
With only 54 units, it's one of the smaller Gulf-front buildings on the island — which means the beach behind the condo is never crowded. The pool area is calm. You're not navigating a resort with hundreds of strangers. It feels like a neighborhood, not a convention.
The building itself is well-designed — wide hallways, wide doorways, two elevators, and spacious units that feel open and comfortable the moment you walk in. It's easily accessible for guests with mobility needs, and it simply feels more relaxed and less cramped than the larger complexes nearby.
What we love most is the location. You can walk to waterfront restaurants, boutique shops, the Gulf Aquarium, putt-putt golf, beach volleyball, and even a grocery store. Everything you need is within reach — but when you're on that beach or that balcony, you'd never know it. It feels tucked away in the best possible sense.
Small enough to feel personal. Close enough to everything. Right on the Gulf.
That's why we chose Summer Place — and why we think you'll love it too.

What makes this property unique
A few things set Unit 203 apart — some you'll notice the moment you walk in, and some you'll appreciate more as the week goes on.
Start with the layout. Most condos in this building have two bathrooms. Ours has three — one for each bedroom. If you're traveling with multiple couples or a multigenerational family, that detail matters more than almost anything else. Add two king master suites, brand new mattresses throughout, a fully remodeled master bath with a large double-head walk-in shower, and a fully stocked kitchen with granite countertops, and the unit simply feels a step above.
Then there's the building. Summer Place has only 54 units — which means the beach behind the condo is never crowded, the pool area stays calm, and the whole experience feels more like a quiet retreat than a resort. Wide hallways, wide doorways, and two elevators make it genuinely accessible and comfortable for everyone. Complimentary beach service is included during season — chairs and umbrella set up and waiting for you each morning.
The location is walkable in a way most Gulf-front properties aren't — restaurants, the Gulf Aquarium, putt-putt golf, beach volleyball, and a grocery store are all within easy reach on foot.
And the dolphins are real. Guests mention them in nearly every review — swimming past the balcony close enough to watch with your morning coffee. It just keeps happening.
We also have a soft spot for military families. Eglin Air Force Base, Hurlburt Field, and Tyndall AFB are all nearby — this island is actually how we found this place ourselves, visiting our son at Eglin. If you're coming to see someone stationed here, we hope Unit 203 makes the trip feel extra special.
Finally — we're not a management company. We own this unit, we stay here ourselves, and we're always just a message away.
