the neighborhood is quiet for a central tourist Mexican city, especially at night. It is a typical Mexican residential neighborhood. There are restaurants within a couple of minutes, the historical center is very near
The neighbourhood is close to the main square of the city and all attractions. It is a residential neighbourhood although there are several buildings for tourists and foreigners.
It is still part of the centre so it has the same restriction of construction than the tourist area. Hence, you will see mostly old houses, Mexican style houses although not Spanish buildings and houses like the ones in the touristy area, our building is the tallest in the neighbourhood so the view is amazing from the top.
it is a bit out of the hustle and bustle from the tourist area. Hence, the neighbourhood is considered quiet(for Mexican standards) for the centre of a Mexican city, no tourist noises, no bars, very few cars crossing the street and no cars at all at night. The building is on the back of the house with an extra security wall.
Although remember you are in Mexico so you might hear noises that you normally might not hear in your country like vendors passing the street and selling tamales, or the gas delivery truck has a noisy jingle song which they play while driving but those are noises that you will hear in all Oaxaca, a dog in the neighbourhood might bark as they do in all Oaxaca, some people have dogs in their roofs. Those type of noises that are normal to us but might be unusual for tourists although you will hear them everywhere you go in Oaxaca.
