Great Cabin

If you enjoy being secluded , charcoal grilling and sit around a nice fire pit then this is a place for you, Everything else is a good drive away.Kayaks are located inbetween some cabins so its awkward. Not much to do for little ones. When we arrived lights were out due to storm , called property manager and he responded fast to the point of him wanting to drive far to get us ice. I really appreciated that. Overall good cozy cabin.

Perfect short getaway from city life

Clean, cozy and beautiful. Almost perfect except a few small things. Some items like the lighter, shampoo and body wash were almost empty and the bathtub drain plug wouldn’t stay up.

Relaxing Getaway

This was our second stay at this cabin. It was just as welcoming and relaxing as our first visit. We spent three nights here and really enjoyed the cozy cabin and nights by the fire pit. We did a lot of exploring around the cabin and surrounding area. It was just a short walk through the trees behind the cabin to get to the river where we sat and watched the water while our daughter played. The hosts were great to deal with and the check in and ouy was very smooth. I highly recommend this cabin.

Weekend Getaway

My husband and I try to take an annual anniversary trip to kayak a river. This cabin is a central location for multiple nearby options. It is easy to find and a very pretty cabin. Access to the River for a longer trip or heavy kayak not the best due to steep stairs but we made it work. Really enjoyed our stay!

Relaxing Cabin by River

This was the best cabin our family has experienced for vacation. It is the small details that are so meaningful: fishing poles, plenty of dishes and linens, games, and super clean. 30 min from restaurants and a few minute walk to river.

Perfect Family Vacation!

The cabin was perfect! Our family loved it so much, our children still talk about it and wish we owned it! We really appreciated that it was located away from the tourist spots and offered a truly peaceful retreat. The grounds were beautiful and the cabin was comfortable, plus supplied with so much. We couldn’t have asked for better communication with the owners and management, as well. We definitely hope to vacation here again in the near future!

peaceful stay

My girlfriends and I really enjoyed the cabin. It was beautiful and very clean. Comfy beds also. If you are looking to truly get away this is the place for you. The only thing I would give a heads up on is this house is really on a hillside and it is bit treacherous to get down to the water.

Remote, Quiet, Comfortable

The cabin and location are a great spot to go off of the grid. Nice furnishings, clean and had everything we needed for the weekend. Kayaking was a welcomed plus. I do recommend shoes, as the decent to the water and several rocky spots required us to have footing.

Wonderful Getaway!

We loved our stay here for our honeymoon! Nice & private enough! Darin and his wife (property managers) were awesome - so quick to respond. Paul was quick to get back with us as well with questions we had before arriving. We were so please with the kayaking as well. We loved our experience at the Hillside Hideaway!

About the host

Hosted by Michael and Maria Frosch

Host profile image
Maria and I have been visiting this beautiful area for the past three years, and we simply fell in love with its peacefulness and natural beauty. Living and working in Dallas, TX, the daily hustle and bustle can get overwhelming, so we decided to take a leap of faith and purchase our dream vacation property here.

Hillside Hideaway is our sanctuary—a place to unwind, recharge, and reconnect with nature. Whether kayaking on the nearby Mountain Fork River, hiking in Beavers Bend State Park, or simply enjoying the quiet woods surrounding the cabin, this place brings us peace and joy.

We’re excited to share this special retreat with others and hope it becomes your favorite getaway spot, just like it is for us.

Why they chose this property

When we decided to invest in a vacation home, finding the right location was everything. Legacy Trails stood out because it offers the perfect blend of privacy, natural beauty, and community. Nestled on 35 acres of serene woods with gated access, it feels safe and secluded without being isolated.

We love that the neighborhood provides exclusive access to the Mountain Fork River, allowing us to enjoy kayaking, fishing, and peaceful river views just steps from the cabin. The sense of community here is welcoming but low-key, so you can truly relax and feel at home.

Plus, its convenient location — only 25–30 minutes from Broken Bow Lake, Beavers Bend State Park, and local dining and attractions — makes it an ideal base for exploring the best of the region. For us, Legacy Trails offers the perfect balance of nature, adventure, and comfort.

What makes this property unique

This cabin has everything you need for an amazing and relaxing getaway. We wanted a place that feels like home but still offers that special “away from it all” vibe. The bedrooms feature handmade queen-sized Aspen log beds and plenty of storage for all your belongings.

The living room provides ample space for quality time with friends and family, highlighted by a stunning floor-to-ceiling stone wall with an embedded gas log fireplace. Rustic décor complements the cozy atmosphere, and there’s a queen-sized sofa sleeper, love seat, and chair to ensure everyone has a comfy spot. On rainy nights, enjoy Direct TV with 150+ channels, a selection of board games, and DVDs for entertainment.

The location strikes the perfect balance: just 30 miles from Broken Bow and Hochatown, so you can explore popular attractions like Broken Bow Lake, the Hochatown Petting Zoo, and fantastic local restaurants such as Girls Gone Wine — then return to the tranquility and peacefulness of nature. Watch deer roam freely around the property as you unwind.

Nearby, you’ll find many exciting attractions to explore. Mena, Arkansas, is just a beautiful 30-minute drive away, where you can enjoy the breathtaking Talimena Scenic Drive. The Rich Mountain Firetower, with its observation decks, is only 20.6 miles from Smithville. And don’t miss Mountain Fork Brewery, offering over 10 beers on tap along with 6-packs and growlers.
