About this property

Villa Magallanes

Every stay is unique and rewarding. We've provided most imaginable necessities and conveniences so you can focus on the beauty, sounds, showering sunlight, enveloping clouds, simple moments, conversations and small details that surround you.

Adventure is within reach. Whether you're exploring the Villa grounds and surrounding jungle, regrouping after day trips to some of Costa Rica's most famous locations, or simply relaxing and reading a book in the hammock, the pure life awaits you.

The space:
Step through the front door of this spacious (3,175 sq/ft under cover) home, into the great room and open concept kitchen, a central gathering place for energetic conversation at the end of the day, perhaps by the fireplace if it's exceptionally cold.

The master suite is set apart from the rest of the house with a tempurpedic queen bed and picture window framing the valley, Gulf of Nicoya and distant Nicoya mountain range. There is a large closet, sliding glass door to the veranda, and attached en-suite master bath and small office.

Surrounded by lush jungle, enjoy your morning coffee or tea sitting at the courtyard bistro table directly off the master bath greeting the hummingbirds arriving for their morning nectar or the flycatchers seeking an early bath in the fountain.

Also off the great room is a guest bedroom, with a large closet, lots of natural light and an en-suite Jack & Jill bathroom, shared with the other house guests.

Walking past the refrigerator and food pantry, there is a separate guest quarter/efficiency with a private outdoor entrance, kitchenette, washer and dryer and sleeping accommodations for four. In the garden room sunlight will shower you through picture windows on three sides, overlooking the courtyard garden and fountain. There are twin trundle beds in the garden room and a queen sleeper sofa in the common area.

A deluxe, king-size, above ground air mattress is available for parties >8.
And in addition, we have a detached, separate casita with an en-suite bath, kitchenette, terrace and patio for parties >10.

Guest access:
In addition to your bedrooms, great room w/open kitchen design, laundry and wrap-around veranda, you have full access to the spectacular grounds, gardens and courtyard throughout the villa.

Enjoy a glass of wine watching the sunset behind the Gulf of Nicoya, play checkers on the west lawn, relax reading a book in the hammock (2 provided), or simply take in the nighttime, distant lights of the port/beach city of Puntarenas from the veranda.

It's all yours to enjoy!

There's a river, waterfalls and swimming/wading holes only a short hike away and you will be minutes by car from San Ramon central, the city of "presidents and poets", just in case you have an "itch" to explore the city to buy some fresh baked bread at our favorite panaderia.

Other things to note:
This home is at an elevation of 3,100 feet and the year-round temperature varies from 65-80 degrees on average.

Rainy season is June-November and the dry season December-May.

Dream house
Incredible house with all the comforts of home and insane views. The view of the distant ocean, sunsets, the rainforest and wildlife alone was enough for me to fall in love with this home. We saw birds and capuchins without even having to get out of bed! We enjoyed being able to cook most of our meals and had every possible kitchen amenity we needed. There is a mini mart right in the neighborhood with all of the basics, and plenty of larger grocery stores in the nearby town of San Ramon. Internet was stable and had enough speed for two persons to work there with only a few interruptions. We loved walking to the nearby waterfall, but be warned that it can be steep and slippery at times, so you'll need some solid hiking boots (and a good attitude). Host was so kind and thoughtful and was always available to answer all questions and make recommendations. One VERY important note is that after getting off the highway the road to get to the house is a steep, twisty, bumpy dirt road (much like you'll find in MANY of the mountainous areas of Costa Rica). Be prepared with an appropriate 4x4 vehicle, and a good amount of patience and humility while driving.

Home away from home
We have thoroughly enjoyed our fourth stay at this property. The home is spacious and clean, and the location is serene. Sit quietly on the covered porch, and you may be treated to butterfly, hummingbird and toucan sightings. The hosts were gracious and accomodating when I left the gate remote in my friend’s car by accident. They are always prompt to respond to needs. We will be back soon!

About the host

Host profile image
Your hosts are an American-Costa Rican couple, married for 21 years, with our roots in San Ramon and family throughout Costa Rica. If the best part of traveling for you is experiencing the natural culture and true essence of the people, that is our desire.

Whether you just need a great place to stay with a pure Tico vibe, or you are booking one of our limited all-inclusive Organic Costa Rica packages, with us you will receive an experience you will never forget (and which few others will ever have).

We're lovers of truth and wish to pursue it without counting the cost. We prefer the road less traveled, local restaurants, culture, warm weather, beaches and now our new mountain home in San Ramon.

We also are outdoor Christmas decorating enthusiasts (SoFloChristmas), which occupies us several months of the year.

We want to share our joy, love of life and living, with others.

Why they chose this property

My first visit to Costa Rica in 2010 was driven by a desire to connect with a culture that had not forgotten its religious roots. If you come to visit and only see the natural beauty and experience the eco-tourism, you would be blessed enough. But if you desire to share her soul then pay special attention to the opportunities the culture offers to feed it.

If you’re thinking of visiting Costa Rica you probably already have an adventurous spirit. Experience Costa Rica with us and we will push that spirit to the limits.

The drive from the Juan Santa Maria Airport will begin your adventure. You’ll take the Pan American Highway (CR1) north and west to San Ramon/Alajuela. CR1 is a beautiful drive so try to arrive during the day. As you wind your way up through the valleys of sugar cane fields and coffee plantations, stop along the way at a roadside vendor. Depending on the time of year they may be selling Flor de Itabo (Carmen’s favorite with eggs), miel (local honey), prestinos, coco, and/or fruit. Be adventurous. Stop and buy what’s available to enjoy on your final minutes to the house.

What makes this property unique

Travel Costa Rica like a native...discover the source of our pure life.
