The cabin was amazing and the owners are very nice and helpful. My family and I all had a great time and this was one of the best and relaxing vacations we took.
This is a great Cabin in Tahoe Donner. Charming, cozy, easy. We had a great weekend with our two teenaged kids. We were in town for a lacrosse tournament and to just enjoy the Summer beauty of Truckee, Lake Tahoe, and Donner Lake. Location was great! No complaints.
We had a great stay here in early January. The cabin was very clean and comfortable. Plenty of clean linens and lots of closet space. The living area was cozy and the kitchen had everything you need. Very close to skiing/snowplay at Tahoe Donner and sledding at Glacier Way. We would definitely come back!
We had a lovely time. The property was perfect for our family, had plenty of space for everyone to sleep and play, and was cozy. The host was helpful and quick to respond to messages. We would come again!
We had a very nice experience with this rental property. The owners were very responsive and helpful. The home was clean and had enough room for two families with kids. We definitely will be back!

Was a great guest that was able to deal with bad weather conditions and internet outages during the storm. Left the house on time and clean.
Host was friendly. They made it known they were watching the cameras at the property when we first arrived with a weird welcome text. House was very clean, very cozy, and the yard games were a lot of fun. Would stay here again.

Hi Alex. Thank you for the great review. Just to be clear, we don’t constantly or regularly monitor the outside cameras. As a security measure, the WiFi lock alerts us that a code has been entered or that the door has been opened. We use this to know if and when the cleaning crew arrives or leaves, if maintenance companies have arrived to do work, and as confirmation that our guest were able to get in the cabin and that we did program the lock correctly.
The notice was what prompted the “Welcome Message” along with the comment to let us know if you had any questions or needed help.
Hope to see you again!

My family loved the cabin. The beds were actually comfortable, there was lots of room for everyone to spread out, and the living room was stocked with great games to play.
The host was super helpful and communicative. The kitchen was clean and had everything we needed. Overall, a wonderful stay.
We got lucky with some late season snow. Kelvin kept us up to date with pictures of snow conditions at the house. We had an easy time getting to the house, and it was easy to get to Palisades and back for a day of skiing. Kelvin was helpful throughout our trip, and we definitely hope to stay again!

Thank you guys very much. We are thrilled you had a great time and got some good snow to get in a good weekend of skiing.
Hope to see you again in the near future!

Kelvin and Carol are the most warmest host I have ever come across in all these years of renting through VRBO. They responded to my queries promptly and provided lots of information about things to do in and around the area. They even left goodies for our kids to enjoy! They have everything one might need to make a vacation memorable. The location of the house is also quite convenient to all major attractions. The house was clean and the kitchen was well stocked. We had a great time and would definitely be coming back!!
Thanks again Kelvin and Carol for your warm hospitability!!
Superior property - everything clean with great instructions on how to use everything. 2 bedrooms 1 bath down and 1 bedroom and bath up, as well as a loft with more beds (and a paceman machine) on the second floor. So there is lots of room. The driveway is a little steep but not difficult. Once you are parked, it is a short walk to the front door with NO stairs to get to the main floor.. The electronic lock was the easiest to use ever. The kitchen was well equipped, the beds comfortable with extra blankets and pillows that we didn't need because of a heat wave (82 degrees during the day). But because we were at 6,000 ft +, we were very comfortable at night even without A/C. It was a perfect time to enjoy the Tahoe area.

Kathleen was a joy to have stay at our cabin, and is 100% welcome back anytime. She communicated with me, followed house rules and treated our “home away from home” as of it were her’s.
The cabin was very welcoming . Warm and cozy yet spacious. Plenty of room for the kids to play with out being under your feet. The bonus for us was it being pet friendly. It was very clean and had everything you would need .
We had a wonderful vacation at the Knotty Pine Family Cabin. The house had everything we needed it. It was very clean and organized. Close to town and very peaceful and charming. We definitely recommend to anyone that wants to get away with family and friends and would love to come back soon.
My family and I went up to spend Christmas in Tahoe. There were 9 adults, 2 kids, and an old fur baby.
It was a spacious place where we all had a comfortable spot to sleep. Fireplace was nice and cozy. Lots of kitchen tools, which I think is convenient. Everyone enjoyed the Pac-Man game! There was a ton of snow so we had a good time in the front driveway building snowman’s and turning the driveway into a small sledding hill. FYI the driveway is a slight downgrade to get to the house.
They had a lot off helpful things that we needed like shovels for the snow, snow melt, saucers to go sledding! It was great.
There’s also a nearby trail (walking distance) where we went snowshoeing. That was super convenient as we didn’t have to drive anywhere. Tahoe donner is also super close by. Unfortunately, due to the weather the power went out so it had to close and we couldn’t go.
We got caught in the winter storm and couldn’t leave the day we were scheduled to leave. Luckily when we reached out to Kelvin we were able to stay longer. He wanted nothing more than for us to be safe and did everything he could to help make that happen. It was a huge relief knowing we had a place to stay!
There were unfortunate incidents (out of everyone’s control) like power outages and internet being down due to the storm, but throughout our trip, which turned into an “adventure”, Kelvin was an absolute amazing host! He was incredibly responsive and tried to help in any and all possible ways. With everyone stressed out given the storm and our circumstances it was such a relief to know that we were able to depend on Kelvin for help and suggestions.
You can’t go wrong staying here and as Kelvin as your host!!
My friends and I loved staying at Kelvin's cabin for a ski weekend. Kelvin was a great communicator and was quick to spring into action when we had a minor issue. The house itself is cozy and convenient. Wood stove was perfect to cuddle around after a long day on the slopes. We'll be back for sure!
This cabin sets up so well for a large family or two families. So many beds. Lots of attention to details. Property was very clean when we arrived. The Pac-man game was the star of the weekend for adults and kiddos alike! Air quality during our trip was horrendous, so we spent most of our time in the cabin and it was great. Lots of games to play. We will definitely be back.
My wife, daughter, sister in law, her husband and son and dogs thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the house.
Sat on the deck for dinner every night, enjoying quiet evenings relaxing together after hiking in the mornings, spending most days at Donner lake relaxing, kayaking and sailing.
Love the proximity of the house to truckee and Donner lake, away from the hustle and bustle of lake Tahoe. Having guest passes to donner lake marina was great.
Communication with owner was great, received email from him the day before arriving, with details about getting into the house and things we should know. Likewise, received email day before checking out on details for checking out.
Will definitely rent this house again next time.
Our group of 7 adults had the pleasure of staying at Knotty Pine for two nights. (Friday and Saturday) The first thing I want to mention is the great communication from Kelvin and Carol. They explained everything so well, offered suggestions for our visit and even offered to let us use their raft for our annual river float.
The home is a great location. Close to the amenities of Truckee-Donner-Squaw and Tahoe, but a world away with its privacy.
Pulling in to the driveway it is obvious the attention to detail they put into maintaining their home and making it comfortable for guests.
Inside, this place is CLEAN! If you tried, you would not find an area that was not clean, neat and organized.
As a professional Chef I was especially pleased with the kitchen appliances, wide array of quality pots, pans and utensils.
The living room is so inviting with the huge TV and viewing options. The three bedrooms are all large with very comfy beds and bedding, Lots of room to lay out your clothes and personal belongings. The upstairs loft is great! I imagine it would be the choice hangout for younger kids.
My personal favorite place to relax is the huge front deck. There is a massive back deck as well that one of the couples enjoyed for its privacy.
Checking in and out was simple and easy. I am sure that we will stay here again. Hopefully for more days!

About the host
Hosted by Kelvin Friedel
We are a family of 5, who have enjoyed this cabin for the past 10 years, as our kids were growing up. We have used it a lot in the winter, as well as the summer, but enjoy it year round. We live in the Bay Area and try to make it up there as often as life and work allows.
Why they chose this property
We wanted to find a "cabin in the woods" and that is exactly what we found. The pine walls add to the feeling that you are really getting away to a mountain retreat in the High Sierras. It is close to the Tahoe Donner ski area, as well as Sugar Bowl, Boreal and Squaw Valley.
You are close to Lake Tahoe, if you want to see the beauty it holds, or just a short trip to Donner Lake.
