Spring Break!
Decided to take a spring break trip to Custer in the off season since the weather was so great. The Home was perfect for our family of 6. We enjoyed cooking in the large kitchen, the 2 family rooms were great and the location was perfect.

Hideaway cabin in Custer
Nicely appointed cabin up a hill on a wooded lot overlooking Custer. Nice deck, wildlife. (Deer and chipmunks), kitchen, and location. Only downside was traffic noise when out on the deck.

Pine Beetle Burn Gathering
The cabin on the hillside had stunning views and exceeded my expectations! The home is spacious and well laid out for entertaining. We were 3 couples and had plenty of space for everyone to be comfortable and play games. The foosball table and the gas fireplace were the indoor highlights that were enjoyed by all! It was a comfortable walk downtown with deer and turkeys on the way down the drive. I will be staying at this home in the future for family and friend gatherings! The hosts were very responsive making the whole trip a breeze.

Hi there! We are Shane and Kianna Binger and we own TrailHound Cabin Co. We’re just a couple of trailhounds who visited the Black Hills and decided to stay forever. We think you’ll like it too. Whether it’s the sightseeing or outdoor activities, there’s a little something for everyone.

We’ve been together since 2013 and tied the knot in scenic Spearfish Park. Kia is local – sort of. She’s from Philip, South Dakota, near the Badlands, and her parents have hand-painted the Wall Drug signs since 1991. Shane grew up on the other side of the state on a farm near Tulare, South Dakota. We actually met on a school trip to Washington, DC, so traveling has always been close to our hearts! In our free time, we love hiking, kayaking, basically anything outdoors, and traveling to new places. Come visit us and we’ll show you some of our favorite Black Hills destinations!

Why they chose this property

Built nearly a century ago, this cozy cabin is a relaxing home away from home. Soak in the stunning views on wraparound decks or cook a great meal in the modern, fully-furnished kitchen. It’s located on the edge of town, just within walking distance to downtown, yet somehow feels like you’re miles away from any other residence.

What makes this property unique

Custer Lookout Lodge gives visitors the unique best of both worlds.

The surrounding pine trees and granite walls give guests the Black Hills serenity and peacefulness while only being a walk from buffalo burgers, live music, and shopping that downtown Custer offers.

The cabin itself is also the best of both worlds. The original half of the cabin was built in 1926 and still has its original floors, exposed beams, and an antique stove. The newer half of the cabin provides a beautiful modern kitchen, a floor-to-ceiling stone fireplace, and all the other modern amenities expected for a stay today. Finish your day by making the hard decision of which patio of the three you will enjoy your beverage and sunset on.
