About this property

Farmstay Estate on an Organic Farm 7 miles from NYC! Learn + Luxury!

The Farm's Estate Home, 7 miles from NYC, sits perched on a private, peaceful hill above a gorgeous 7-acre certified-Organic farm. Get in touch via our Closter Farm contacts with ANY requests. The spacious, gracious funky Estate home with a giant private pool and Park Avenue-sized rooms sits inside the fence of a private, Oasis-like estate. And, we'll tailor a bespoke educational experience for your party - at your pace and volume or just 'learn by osmosis' in relaxed privacy!

Entering through an arched entry hall, a gracious center hall spans a giant Formal Living Room, Formal Dining Room with table for 10, a Chef's Kitchen with Wolf and Sub Zero appliances, and a Barn/Family Room which overlooks our working greenhouse where the farms seedlings germinate. The master bedroom is on the first floor and the 4 upstairs bedrooms, each with ensuite full bath overlook the Closter Farm & Livestock Co grounds.

A "luxury educational Organic vacation" or "learning regenerative staycation" experience? Well, yes! A mouthful but don't worry - no test, no prerequisites and no school bells!

But to truly understand farming, food systems and how food is created, it's critical to see the rhymes and rhythms not just during one of our hours-long classes, our half day educational volunteer sessions, or our Farmers' dinners - but over mornings, afternoons and evenings. Only then will you scratch the surface.

Come, relax and observe from a distance on the hill above, or get your hands dirty with our friendly, energetic all-things-farm-nerdy crew. We love to talk and teach. A farmer's best friend is an educated friend. We are delighted to help you understand and appreciate all that we do and all that it takes to run a small-scale organic, regenerative community farm. It's not easy between the handwork, the long hours and mother nature's everchanging whims but by the time you leave, you'll understand how our food system works at it's best, enabling you to be a better advocate for food, farmers, health, and the environment in your own community.

"Closter" is a Dutch word meaning quite and peaceful. Drinking your morning coffee or a sundowner cocktail you'll gaze out on 7 acres of verdant organic fields of scented beds of thyme, rosemary, garlic; an orchard of mature apple trees; even an apiary for honey. And vegetables, too—butternut squash and beets; rocket and radishes; peppers of impossibly bright hue and salad greens of many kinds.

Your stay will include a fridge stocked with a farmers selection of the freshest possible farm produce. We'll even allow you to choose a few items yourself. As part of your educational experience you'll see how we wash and pack and store everything that comes out of our soil for maximum freshness. You will also receive a tour of the gardens and our Organic, regenerative approach to raising over 70 types of heirloom vegetables and pastured chickens. If you like it you can spend an hour, a day or a week in the fields with our staff learning all about the operations of our small farm. Of course for a lower key experience, just enjoy the privacy of your 6 bedroom home (each with en-suite bathroom with vintage wallpaper) with Formal Living Room, Formal Dining Room, large Barn/Family Room, Breakfast Room, full kitchen and outdoor pool!

The Farm's Estate Home is also home to most whimsical private collection of art by Duke Riley - American Artist and Patriot. He has been featured in the New York Times on multiple occasions, most recently June 16, 2022 for his Exhibition at the Brooklyn Museum which runs June 17, 2022-April 23, 2023.

For real, a Farm Stay 45 minutes from Broadway. In the heart of beautiful Closter NJ (that's right, Tree City USA), with a host of fantastic restaurants (several of which buy our produce!), a CMX Premium Movie Theater and a Whole Foods 1 mile away, and hikes along the Hudson River and the Palisades Park and so much more.

You will drive into the 7-acre farm off of Closter Dock Road, just 1 mile from the Palisades Parkway. The automatic gate will open to the Farm's store and parking lot. Feel free to stop the store anytime it's open to learn about the behind the scenes operation of an on farm market. The driveway to the Farm's Estate Home winds past the store through the 7 acre parklike property with mature specimen trees. The Farm Estate home sits toward the back of the property overlooking the Great Lawn to the East, the Oak Grove to the North surrounded by the gorgeous operating Organic Closter Farm.

Huge private pool is 10 feet deep and a total blast.

Bicycle enthusiasts are only 1 mile from the famous 9W Bike Route which contains over 100+ miles on open roads consisting of rolling hills and well over 1500 feet of elevation from the George Washington Bridge to Nyack.

Farmhands will be in the fields during the days and available to explain our practices and assist you with bespoke educational volunteering and learning opportunities according to your interest, time and energy. You will have plenty of privacy in the Farm's Estate Home which is set back on a hill, and buffered by an orchard, mature trees and beautiful landscaping. Our farm's Greenhouse is used to start seedlings and sits on the covered porch adjacent to the Family / Barn room (please see pictures). 1 farmhand will access that Green house daily during the hours of 11am-2pm to tend to our seedlings.

For additional fees and to be arranged separately by guests, you can have our partner / caterer Peppercorn Events cook up a meal or multiple meals dropped of, and an unforgettable experience, using our seasonal Organic produce. This is subject to Peppercorn's availability and prefers 10 days notice at a minimum. Peppercorn is our exclusive catering partner - she knows and respects our property well and we know her well.

Events on the farm are listed on our website and include seasonally tours, yoga, and various other, all of which you'll have the option to join. Your educational experience can be tailored to your time, interests and capabilities. You'll leave rested and relaxed, unable to believe that such a thing exists 7 miles from NYC, and better able to communicate all that goes into the workings of a certified Organic, regenerative community farm.

You will leave with an outstanding educational insiders' perspective on our food system from the perspective of a small community farm doing things the right way. Your learning will be at your own pace and your own volume - lots or none at all except the osmosis of being set on a hill above a living farm. If you choose, you can understand Organic production in detail from seed starts to retail sales, or you could simply watch us do all of the above! It's up to you. Come and stay, relax and recharge.

Your farm is waiting for you!

Excellent Property, Wonderful Host !!
EXCELLENT !! Farm was absolutely amazing, as exactly how it was described. Jon was fantastic, so accommodative, he let us do an early checkin & late checkout as we were flying from different parts of the country. Farm estate by itself was amazing, well decorated with wonderful artwork & super clean rooms. We had a wonderful time and would definitely visit again.

Truly special.
This amazing property is absolutely stunning and special. The decor is gorgeous and the artwork is carefully curated and fun. We hired Peppercorn Events for a chef catered dinner and it was out of the park. Jonathan was an excellent host. Will return!
