My mother-in-law has a bucket list of staying insome unique places so we booked this for her birthday. The caboose is very cool! The caboose is very clean. The kitchen had plenty of cooking supplies if needed and a nice size refrigerator. The bathroom was clean and had plenty of towels. We would highly recommend staying here, especially if you know someone that loves trains or likes staying in one of a kind places.
We stayed here as it was convenient to the Herkimer Diamond Mines and my son was so excited to stay in a real train car. It did not disappoint! It was very well appointed, great water pressure and decorated adorably. We had no issues or complaints for our evening. It was a very memorable stay we def recommend.
What a charming and totally unique property! Check in was easy, it was clean and comfortable and well appointed. The land that the rental sits on is a gorgeous spot right on the river. 10/10!
This is exactly what you look for in a weekend getaway or an extended stay. The owner is more than accommodating and takes pride in his property and it shows. Everything you need is there and more. It was a very pleasant and relaxing experience and Chris the owner ensures that for you. Definitely a 5 star property & host!
I booked this as a surprise anniversary get away! It did not disappoint. The caboose is modern and everything we needed was there. We will absolutely be back. If you are looking for a peaceful vacation, this place is perfect. I read my book, my boyfriend went fishing and we were still spending time together, peacefully. I cannot say enough good things!!!

It was a great experience for my train enthusiasts family, the cabose was modernized while keeping its old time charm. Property Manger was great to work with as well. Very peaceful on the Mohawk River and Erie Canal system. Dont miss your opportunity book now!
We stayed here for a brief Father’s Day trip including a visit to Howe’s Caverns and Brewery Ommegang. The property was so much fun, absolutely adorable. And every detail was considered, while also not being fussy. The kids (5&7) had a fantastic time exploring the caboose and the grounds. There was even a hill to roll down. ☺️ they took the loft bed, and didn’t not struggle with the ladder once they learned how to use it safely. The caboose has climate control options, but we did fine just opening the windows in mid June. There is also a small wood stove, which made me think of how wonderful a winter stay would be. The owner even left some surprises for our little conductors to greet them and increase their fun! Planning to explore the Herkimer diamond mines and stay again. Beautiful location and a fantastic unparalleled experience. Yes, there was a train or two in the night, but we thought it added to the experience of sleeping in a caboose! Great adventure, and super neat place!
My husband and stepdaughter had read almost all of the boxcar children books over the years, and it has been a dream of hers to stay in a real boxcar. We were grateful to be able to gift this weekend to her for her 8th grade graduation. The caboose is meticulous clean, nicely appointed, and surprisingly spacious considering the size. The location is also just awesome. Aside from mosquitoes, being right on the banks of the water made for a quiet stay. In spite of the fact that there were freight tracks not far from the property, the sound of the passing trains was not much more than a rumble and occasional horn, and not loud at all. If anything, it added to the ambiance! There is a stocked fire pit, bbq grill, great patio with furniture (cushions are inside behind the chair), and great deck lights that help illuminate at night time.
The bathroom was great! It was one of the best flushing toilets I've had in a VRBO, and the water pressure for both the sink and shower were great too. The shower is a bit narrow and the height not super tall, but it fits the space well. I only mention because my husband, stepdaughter, and I are all on the thinner side and fit in it okay, but it may be a bit of a tighter fit otherwise. That is literally the only "caution" I would give potential renters.
We hope to rent again, & soon! If it were up to Josie, we not only would have stayed a week, we'd move in permanently and soon. Five stars!! Thank you Chris!
Never stayed in a caboose before. Place was exactly as advertised and very clean, modern and well appointed. Owner Chris was very attentive to all our needs. Really enjoyed our stay.
