About this property
OCEANFRONT with Pool & Dock - Approved Dog OK! Gated Estate - A Tropical Oasis!
Mar Azul is a High-end Oceanfront Residence overlooking the tranquil Offshore Flats of Marathon. Enjoy a Secluded, Luxurious 3-Story Home with Spectacular Views of the Atlantic Ocean! Densely surrounded by Nature, the Property includes a Private In-Ground Pool Deck featuring an Outdoor Gazebo with a Stainless Gas Grille. Stroll out to the Large Private Dock via the Mangrove Canopied Walkway. A Gated Estate in a Prime Oceanfront Location.
Mar Azul is an Approved-Dog Friendly Oceanfront property at the end of a quiet, 'Key-zee' street. You will enjoy Total Privacy with Lush Tropical Landscaping including Gumbo Limbo, Coconut Palm, Sea Grape and White Bird of Paradise which completely surround the Property.
This is a designer decorated 3-story home with contemporary colors, loads of fine architectural details including Crema Marfil Polished Marble, Granite, Hardwood Floors, Open-Air Porches and Balconies. Located at Mile Marker 52, Key West is only about an hour away.
ANY DOG AND/OR BOAT/TRAILER NEEDS APPROVAL - NO WORRIES, JUST LET US KNOW, THANKS!!:-)
No tan lines? No problem! With a Salt Pool (much less chlorine), Chaise Lounges and Covered Grilling/Picnic area, the Pool Deck is very Private.
The Mangrove Walkway leads you thru a Thick Tropical Hammock and ends at a 30-foot long Dock on the Atlantic Ocean where you can experience the Natural Beauty of the Florida Keys. Marked Channels follow the shoreline and lead to Deeper Water.
Our Mangrove Walkway to the Ocean is a wonderful delight - often occupied by Tropical Birds and Curious Iguanas. At the end of the walk is the Ocean, upfront and personal! At times you can sit quietly and listen to the sound of Pelicans flapping their wings as they pass by just overhead. Watch them diving into the water to feed on small fish. Observe long-legged Egrets and the Great Blue Heron carefully stalking their prey on the Flats, and hundreds of Mullet schooling together to avoid predators at low tide. Notice how the color of the Ocean constantly changes with the changing of the Tide. Serene yet invigorating, full of life!
MARATHON: CLOSE, YET VERY FAR AWAY......! Marathon is about 10 miles in length. Made up of 13 islands, Marathon is surrounded by water and is known for its Stunning Coral Reefs, Fresh Seafood and Tropical Vibe. Centrally located, from here you can reach any part of the Keys in an hour or less. Enjoy the world-famous Sloppy Joe's Bar and a Key West Sunset, or head up to Robbie's in Islamorada to hand feed the Tarpon!
Marathon is unique in so many ways (and by the way, traffic is minimal when you get this far down.) Popular attractions include Aquarium Encounters, Dolphin Research Center, The Turtle Hospital, Sombrero Beach, Crane Point and Curry Hammock State Parks. World-Class Water Sports include Scuba Diving and Snorkeling, Offshore and Inshore Fishing, Boating and Kayaking. Participate in Interactive Exhibits where you can pet and feed Dolphin, Sharks, Fish and Reptiles.
Sombrero Beach is perhaps the nicest Beach in Marathon. Besides soft sand and swimming, the park includes a shaded area with picnic pavilions, volleyball courts, restrooms and showers.
Boat rentals are available as well as Kayak, Bicycle and Car rentals. Many of these establishments will deliver right to the Property. Just one block sway you can find bike and kayak rentals.
Marathon Restaurants offer a variety of Fresh Locally-Sourced Seafood including Lobster Tail, Stone Crab, Shrimp and a variety of Fish cooked to perfection. Popular establishments include Florida Keys Steak and Lobster House, Lighthouse Kitchen & Bar, Herbie's, Sparky's Landing and Cracked Conch Cafe.
Keys Fisheries. Very Informal/Excellent Seafood. Rather than being seated, here you order from a walk-up window and then take your tray of food to one of many covered dockside picnic tables to enjoy. My husband's favorite is the Hogfish Sandwich. (Where else can you find that?) Keys Fisheries also has a comfortable Bar built on Stilts and overlooking Florida Bay. KF is located at the Harbor where local boats unload their fresh catch daily. The wide variety of seafood available is amazing and consistent.
Located in an out-of-the-way shopping center, Frank's Grille needs to be on your list of restaurants to try.
There are too many great restaurants and bars to possibly name. What is for sure is that each has it's own unique flavor and atmosphere. From high end to dockside, elegant to casual, quiet to disorderly, you can draw your own conclusions.
Marathon hosts an array of easy-to-reach Coral Reefs and Wrecks. Sombrero Reef has a magnificent display of Live Corals and Sea Fans, teeming with schools of colorful Tropical Fish. With average depths of 30-feet, Sombrero is perfect for both beginners and experts. Looe Key offers visitors the chance to dive The Adolphus Busch; a 210-foot freighter in 110-feet of water. There are an endless number of underwater sites for snorkeling and scuba diving. You can rent equipment or fill your own tanks at one of the many dive shops in Marathon. Try night diving!
Home to some of the best Sport Fishing in the world, there are numerous Fishing Guides and Charters, some of whom can even pick you up right from the Dock! Offshore guides specialize in Sailfish, Dolphin (Mahi Mahi), Tuna, Wahoo, Snapper and Grouper whereas shallow water Backcountry guides specialize in Bonefish, Permit, Tarpon and Redfish. Sip tropical drinks while grilling your own freshly-caught fillets poolside! How cool is that?!!
The 73-foot Marathon Lady, only a few blocks away, offers a nice opportunity to bring home fresh Snapper and Grouper from our Offshore Reefs. Party Boat Fishing is a family-fun experience, and is easily affordable.
7-Mile Bridge/Pigeon Key. Constructed by Henry Flagler and completed in 1912, the original bridge is no longer in use, but is open to foot and bicycle traffic. This is a great place for an early morning walk or jog. Looking down to the water, the colors and the channels created by the moving current is an amazing site. Continue out to Pigeon Key - A 5-acre island that was at one time served as a work camp for the Railway. The former Assistant Bridge Tender's House has been converted into a small Museum featuring artifacts and images from the past.
The City of Marathon invites you to visit any of their 10 Pet-Friendly Parks. Marathon Community Park, for example, offers Tennis, Basketball Courts and Soccer Fields. Crane Point Hammock features a Tropical Forest and Natural History Museum.
In Marathon you will find everything that you might need. There are 2 grocery stores, hardware stores, drug stores, marine supply stores, a private airport, and even a hospital. One thing that is especially nice is that except for boat ramps and beaches, you rarely ever need to pay for parking anywhere in Marathon!
Within walking distance, Oceanfront Park is located between 98th and 99th Streets. (Mar Azul is on 95th Street, Mile Marker 52.) The Park borders on the Atlantic Ocean offering a relaxing place to picnic, fish and launch your kayak. The field is dog-friendly and has an open area to fly kites and exercise.
Sweet Savannahs is also within walking distance and offers Signature Cakes, Desserts and Ice Cream.
The EAA Air Museum is located on US 1 at the end of 98th Street. There you will find a collection of several aircraft including a DC3, and a variety of models representing many periods of flight. There is also an extensive collection of aviation memorabilia and equipment. Admission is free.
Both Green and Loggerhead Turtles nest and lay their eggs at Sombrero Beach during the late Spring thru early Summer. You'll need to go at night. It is important to not get too close or to shine your flashlight directly upon the Turtles or disturb them in any manner. In the late Summer thru early Fall you might be lucky enough to see the little Hatchlings making their way to the water. Walking the Beach first thing in the morning looking for Turtle Nests is an awesome experience!
At Crane Point Hammock you there is a place where you can put your feet in the water and have little tiny fish nibble on your toes. It's called a "Fish Pedicure". It tickles!
