Located at Mile Post 7, this oceanside beach box cottage named ‘The Mermaid Shanty’ is located just 2 blocks from the best lifeguarded beach on the central Outer Banks of North Carolina. The first thing that will catch your eye is the inviting screened in front porch, just waiting for you to sit and watch the sun come up & sip coffee or enjoy an afternoon cocktail! Sunbathe on the back deck in the afternoon or grill food by the fire pit at night. This home is a perfect getaway for families with children, couples, or a guys/girls week! Quiet street, 2 blocks to beach access, 2 blocks to Goombay’s Raw Bar and Grill, Publix, Food Lion, Lowes, & department stores located within walking distance.

The interior was professionally remodeled & decorated with beach inspired furnishings. There are 3 bedrooms & 2 1/2 bathrooms. One bedroom with a king bed, another with a queen bed, & a bunk room with two sets of bunk beds, sleeps-4 (perfect for children or adults). There is a locked storage underneath the house where there is a full bath with an enclosed shower, toilet and sink (perfect for rinsing off after a day at the beach) & washer & dryer.

The house was great for our needs. Close to the beach and had all the supplies we needed (umbrellas, chairs, etc). When the internet went out, the host worked hard to get it fixed quickly. Great stay!

Great place 2 blocks and easy walking distance to the beach. All needed beach supplies were available which was a big plus! All the rooms were clean and all necessities such as linens and toilet paper provided. The host was responsive with questions which put our mind at ease if we needed anything. We would defy stay again.

My kids and I spent 5 days here and couldn’t have asked for a better house or location! The home provided everything we needed to enjoy the beach- which is only 2 blocks to beach public access and to all other accommodations and attractions that the OBX has to offer. I’d recommend this place to anyone!

Wonderful stay for family

The Mermaid Shanty was exactly what we needed for a short family weekend. Being able to walk to the beach was a huge plus, and the house is well stocked with all the basics we needed for a comfortable stay. Hanging out in the evening by the firepit was a treat!

Perfect place for a family getaway

We really enjoyed our stay at the Mermaid Shanty. Great communication from the owner. This house has everything needed for a week at the beach. Beds were super comfy! And we really appreciated having a washer and dryer available.

Adorable cottage

Off Season Stay

Good location to get to get anywhere on the island. Beach is very close and the house is fully stocked on beachy things to take for the day. We were there in the off season and therefore some things were closed but it wasn't crowded at all.

We are both from small towns, so we loved the small town feel! We have been dreaming of this house for years & are excited to be sharing it with you!
