About the host
Hosted by Colin and Genevieve
This is our family homestead. My husband Colin was raised here and, after buying the property from his father, we decided it was the perfect spot to have our own family. To do this we put in organic vegetable gardens and built a pig pen and chicken coop for a very local food source. Next, because we love to mountain bike, we spent our free time building several miles of fun, flowy single track through the woods. We also cleared glades for skiing in the winter behind the house.
We have loved raising our family in this peaceful space. Watching the kids play in the sandbox or apple trees, or our black lab swim circles in the pond, has never gotten old. Now that we cannot be here full time, we decided to refurbish the home to make it more comfortable for visitors, updating the kitchen and bedrooms. We are so happy to have the chance to share it with others and hope you will find this the perfect place to unwind with your friends and family.
What makes this property unique
The house has solar collectors to provide hot water and solar panels for green electricity. While we are on the grid (so no risk or running out of power or hot water) it's nice to know your carbon footprint will be kept to a minimum.
See the Milky Way! The location of our home is great for seeing the night sky. With so little light pollution sitting on our open porch you will be amazed at all the stars you can see and, if you are there in the heart of summer, the fire flies are a show all on their own.
Hear the sounds of summer from bard owls to bluebirds. The wetland, brook and pond on the property are home to peepers and bullfrogs, painted turtles and salamanders. Being surrounded by this natural habitat can be a source of fun and learning for your children and provides a wonderful chorus of sounds as you fall asleep.
