About this property

Silver Mountain Cabins #3 (King Bed, sleeps 5)

Make some memories at this unique and family-friendly place. Silver Mountain cabins are located within the Ottawa National Forest and the Keweenaw Peninsula. Close to hiking, fishing, snowmobiling, rock hounding and premier hunting. Located 28 miles from Michigan Tech and 10 miles from Lake Superior. Enjoy a peaceful retreat just down the road from Silver Mountain and the Sturgeon River Falls.

This private cabin is yours to fully utilize. The main floor of the cabin has one bathroom, and one bedroom with two twin beds. There is also a loft area with one King bed and one twin bed, and the cabin can sleep up to five people comfortably. Please note that dining area seats four to six people, and living area has seating for three people. The cabin includes a private fire pit area right outside the back door.

This private cabin is on a property with other cabins and a private fire pit. The property is vast and you are welcome to explore all of the shared outdoor spaces, including the 22 acres up to the adjoining Ottawa National Forest. Guests are free to use the shared grill and picnic area, or explore the orchard, garden, or trails. There is one other guest cabin as well as our two private cabins on the property.

Our area is beautiful and serene with some of the best star views in the world (we may be biased). Because we are in the National forest and in the UP, there are plenty of wildlife and bugs as well, especially in the evenings and near our pond. Please be prepared for mosquitos, flies, ladybugs and bees/wasps. We regularly treat in order to keep our guests comfortable, but because we are in the woods and in the UP, bugs happen. We're happy to treat, lend bug spray, or run a vacuum mid-stay if one of our guests is uncomfortable. We have chickens on the property and love to provide eggs to guests when available. Please let us know if you'd like a dozen fresh eggs and we will drop them off. If you'd like to visit with our chickens, please let us know, we'd be happy to introduce you and let you interact with the chickens if you're interested in that experience.

We are located on Silver Mountain Road (Forest Service Road 2270) with access to the snowmobile trail system (trail #12 and trail #109). Please view property pictures for the snowmobile map and our location on the trail system.

Guests are free to interact with us as little or as much as they like. One of us is on the property most of the time. If you need assistance, please feel free to knock on our door for assistance or message us through the VRBO app. Feel free to join us by the central fire pit in the evenings, or in our gardens (seasonally/weather permitting). If you'd like a garden tour, or are interested in a group bonfire (with desserts) please let us know, we love meeting guests and hosting.

Nice Pet Friendly Cabin with Beautiful View of Stars
My husband and I and our 2 dogs stayed at one of the availabile cabins for a few days. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The owners were accommodating and welcoming. There's plenty to do in a short drive and on clear evenings the stars are magical.

Winter carnival stay
First off, it is an adorable cabin! Roomy for a few people and worked well for us. The beds were pretty worn, but we worked through it.

Our family is originally from Minnesota. We fell in love with the U.P. and moved up here permanently in 2021. You can oftentimes find one of us walking around or doing a job on the property. You are welcome to engage with us as little or as much as you like. If you need anything while on property you are welcome to knock on our door or message us through the VRBO app.

Why they chose this property

Silver Mountain Cabins is a working homestead located in the Ottawa National Forest. Our property is a unique retreat away from the traditional city distractions. We offer wifi and smart tv in each cabin, with plenty of outdoor space to engage with nature. There are two rental cabins as well as our home on the property, and there is a shared fire pit, grill and picnic area for guests to utilize. Each cabin has a private fire pit and seating area in addition to the shared spaces. You are welcome to explore the expansive gardens, visit the chickens, or take a hike through our 22 acres of woods to forage for mushrooms or other native vegetation.

What makes this property unique

While we are a bit off the beaten path, there are many activities to participate in year-round. Winter offers some of the best snowmobiling in the country and there is direct access from our road to the UP trail system. There are also great opportunities for snowshoeing and off-trail cross country skiing. Spring is prime time for maple syruping, fishing and rock hounding. As Lake Superiors shorelines melt they leave a new crop of interesting and unique rocks for the rock lovers out there. Summer is full of opportunities for everyone, with berry picking starting early June and going through August. There are excellent hiking, kayaking and canoeing spots for day trips as well as fishing, and opportunities for more adventurous water sports on Lake Superior, a short drive away. A local favorite rock climbing spot at Silver Mountain is right down the road, with beautiful views of the entire area. Fall leads into our amazing fall color runs as well as the kickoff to our Northern Lights season, which is more prevalent in our fall through early spring months. Any time of the year, we have some of the most amazing sky views in the world (we may be biased).
