About the host
Hosted by Naoive Coggin
Todd and Katy are both teachers in the United States. They have spent many summers in An Sean Phobal (Old Parish) with Katy's parents who bought Ballintlea Cottage for a holiday and retirement home over 30 years ago. They now hope to share this beautiful and culturally rich part of Ireland with others.
Why they chose this property
Guests at Ballintlea Cottage can enjoy the best of the "Sunny Southeast" by getting to know friendly people in the Gaeltacht area, and discovering all the natural beauty, cultural events, historic sites and recreational activities this region has to offer. The lively town of Dungarvan and the the historic beach communities of Ardmore, Ring, and Youghal are just short drives away. In addition to cosy pubs, local boutiques, delicious dining, and live music, outdoor lovers can explore the scenic Waterford Greenway by bike or foot, take a refreshing swim, enjoy a few rounds of golf, or hike the Comeragh mountains. Whether you're looking for a quiet escape or an active getaway, this location is the perfect base for exploring Ireland’s breathtaking southern coast.
What makes this property unique
This home - newly renovated in Spring 2025 - strikes the perfect balance between a quiet escape and an active getaway. It is situated in a lovely, rural and peaceful area in the heart of one of Ireland's Gaeltacht (Irish-speaking) communities. This area is known for its rich cultural traditions including traditional Irish music, theater, dance and storytelling. Situated so close to the coast, there are countless outdoor activities, including ocean fishing, golf, hiking, swimming, biking, and sightseeing. Neighboring towns afford a wide range of excellent dining options, live entertainment venues and plenty of shopping. Local artisans and craftsmen offer some of the finest crystal, pottery and art in the region.
