The charming, cedar-shingled structures were created in the island’s traditional building style, yet they are definitively modern—spacious, filled with amenities, and flooded with natural light. Looking out over the ocean, you’ll have some of the most memorable vistas in all of Cape Breton, and take in every incredible sunset, every passing eagle.
Sliding-glass doors in each cabin open onto surrounding decks which join the cabins. The leather couch in the Living room is a perfect spot for connecting with friends, digging into a good book, or just gazing out to sea. Watch storms develop on the horizon and play themselves out before they reach you.
When you can tear yourself away, you will find our coast to be one of the most spectacular parts of Cape Breton, with lots of beaches (three within 5 minutes) dramatic cliffs, great restaurants and world-class golf at the nearby Cabot courses.

About the host
Hosted by Stewart Applegath
I have been living here for 26 years, and Bell grew up in Cape Breton, in Margaree Valley, just 20 minutes away. We met in art school in Halifax, and after living in New York for a few years, we moved back here permanently in 1997. We both love Cape Breton, which comes alive in June and the weather stays awesome until October. There are plenty of beautiful places to explore here, even if you have lived here for 26 years!
Why they chose this property
I started building this cottage in 2021-it opened in June 2022; there was a dramatic spot on the property with spectacular views. These views of the ocean and Sea Wolf/Margaree Island are simply amazing. There is also all of the privacy one could want here. This connected two-structure building is a perfect getaway for a couple, or a young family with up to 2 kids, with complete privacy and solitude. There's just nothing else like this cottage in Cape Breton. There's a real sense of romance and intimacy here, a massive deck, wrapping around allowing maximum ease and offering a platform for stunning panoramas of the area and ocean.
What makes this property unique
Cape Breton is a spectacular place, and the scenery on this stretch of coast is particularly striking; the mountains, dramatic plunging cliffs and ocean make a stunning combination. it can also be dramatic, with 90-120 kph winds at many points of the year. The ocean is warm enough for swimming in the summer. TwoBySea offers cool evening breezes even on summer nights, and we see some of the most dramatic sunsets anywhere. Whales play in our front yard, and fishermen haul their lobster traps each year. Moose, eagles, deer and foxes are regulars.
You are also close to the Cabot Trail (5 minutes), the National Park (30 minutes), and other towns and villages (5-15 minutes). If you are a golfer, you are close to Cabot Links & Cliffs in Inverness (18 minutes), which offer one of the great and unique golf experiences in North America. Cabot Cliffs is now ranked 9th in the world (!!) and was developed by the same folks who developed Bandon Dunes in Oregon. The acclaim for Cabot is pretty much unanimous-from the New York Times to Golf Digest.
You can also take advantage of local restaurants, eat freshly cooked lobster or crab, and be only a short distance from one of the best hiking networks outside the Park, between Mabou and Inverness. There's also a fantastic boardwalk in Inverness, only 20 minutes away, which winds its way along the oceanfront, beach and golf course. There are also renowned crafters in the area; interesting quilting, rug hooking, and folk art, all worth a look.
